GIBBONS, JUDY

1925-2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Judy Gibbons of Plum Point on May 23rd at Caribou Memorial Veterans' Pavilion in St. John's.

Judy will be sadly missed by her children John (Ivy), Rose (Frank) Boyle, Dwight (Beulah), Genevieve (Rod Caines), Abraham (former daughter-in-law Sherry Hounsell), her grandchildren SheriLee (Borje) Chambers, Janessa (Stephen) Kerr, Sarah Caines (Kevin O'Shea), Jean (Scott) McGrath, David Boyle, Andrew Caines, John Gibbons, and great-grandchildren Michael, Jonathan and Cora.  Her kindness, ever-ready smile and quirky humour will be remembered by all.

Judy was the daughter of Frank and Sarah (Hoddinott) Samson.  She was predeceased by her loving husband Abraham (Abe) in 2003, and siblings Chesley (Kirsty), Garland (Caroline), Alma, Roseannah (George) Chambers, Daisy (Allan) Saunders, Joyce  Coombs, Grace (Stewart) Taylor, Julian (Bride).  She is survived by her sister Bertha (Gerald) Payne of Corner Brook, sisters-in-law Jane (James) Toope, Gladys (Roy) Gibbons, Virginia (James) Gibbons and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Judy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Family always came first.  Her devotion, moral compass and strength of character were exemplary.  Even through the toughest challenges, her kind, nurturing manner and her deep love of family persisted.  Judy had an enormous appreciation of life and all living things.  An avid gardener and an enthusiastic berry-picker, she enjoyed every moment in nature.

Heartfelt thanks are extended to Judy's caregivers at Caribou Memorial Veterans Pavilion.  We are so grateful for the love and exceptional care that was provided.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, May 28, at the Anglican Church of the Advent in Plum Point, and there will be a Family Service at 7:00 pm.  The funeral is scheduled for 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 29, followed by the burial at Pond Cove Cemetery.
