SIMMS, OLIVE

Passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family on March 25th, 2017 at the age of 95 years. Olive Simms was born on April 25, 1921 in Great Brehat to Thomas and Jane Cull.  She was one of ten children. On December 18, 1940, she married Jacob Simms of St. Anthony Bight.  It was here that they lived and raised their two children, Celeste and Wes, and where Olive would live for the next nearly 77 years.  In 1971 Jacob died, and Olive continued on.  Olive was friendly out going person who had a lovely smile and a wonderful laugh. She was a faithful member of the St. Anthony Bight United Church, as well as a loyal member of the United Church Women and a faithful contributor to the Canadian Bible Society. On Saturday, March 25th, Olive passed peacefully away in the presence of her family. She is survived by her children Celeste (John) and Wes, as well as her grandchildren Wade (Sheila) and Brenda (Eric), great grandchildren Shawna (Ryan), Erika, Tony and Jodi and great-great grandchild Eva.  She is also survived by her brother Walter and sister Florrie. She was predeceased by her husband Jacob, her parents, her son-in-law Tony Cooper as well as three brothers and four sisters. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral on March 29th, 2017 at 2:00 pm from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment followed in the St. Anthony Bight United Church Cemetery. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.
