January 23, 1954 – May 10, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Carl Burden, who passed away peacefully on May 10, 2025, at the age of 71.
Robert was Born in St. Lunaire-Griquet, Newfoundland, on January 23, 1954, to Gordon and Evelyn Burden. Robert lived a life rooted in love, hard work, and connection to his community. A dedicated fisherman, Robert spent much of his life on the sea, embracing a career that reflected both his strength and deep bond with the land and waters of Newfoundland. His presence was quiet but steady, his kindness genuine, and his love for his family beyond measure.
Robert is survived by his loving daughters: Samantha (Corey), Amanda (Thomas), and Jennalee (Andre), and his cherished grandchildren: Andrea, Tristen, Alyssa, Allie, Stephanie, Andre Jr., and Mariyah, along with his great-grandson Xavier. He also leaves behind his brothers: Elias (Joyce), Clem (Irene), Gilbert (Ethel), Hedley (Audrey), Ralph, Ted (Mary), and Gregory; and sisters: Betty (Martin), Mary (Valance), and Audrey (Samuel). Robert had a special bond with his niece Denecka, and will be fondly remembered by a large circle of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is predeceased by Son: Gilbert Best; Mother: Evelyn; Father: Gorden; Brother: Melvin; Grandparents: Clem and Violet Hillier; Joseph and Jane Burden; and Nephew: Danny.
Robert found joy in the simple pleasures of life—traveling between St. John's and St. Lunaire to visit family, walking through the cove to visit loved ones, berry picking, stopping by Burden's Store, and tinkering around the shed with anything he could find to pass the time.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the many hospital staff at the Health Sciences Centre, especially the dedicated ICU nurses, for their compassion and care during Robert’s final days.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
