COLES, ROBERT KELVIN

Robert Kelvin Coles

July 19, 1950 - April 25, 2025

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Bob Coles announce his sudden and tragic passing in his hometown of Savage Cove at the age of 74 years.

Bob was a very loving and supportive husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law, son, son-in-law, brother, brother-in-law, nephew, uncle and friend. Bob was born to Randell and Edna Coles of Savage Cove where he was raised with his two brothers and five sisters. Bob married the love of his life, Betty (Coates) of Eddies Cove East on June 9, 1978. Together they raised their children Miranda and Robbie. Bob cherished many things in life, but nothing compared to his four grandchildren Bobby, Blake, Lucien, and Ariane. Bob was indeed a family man. He was also an exceptional father-in-law to Deanna, they had a very special bond.

Bob was a fisherman for most of his life, while he did spend time in his early years as a truck driver and in later years working in Alberta. His heart was full when he was at home and in recent years putting his mechanic skills to work at the garage with Robbie. When he travelled from Savage Cove, it was to spend time with Miranda and her family. Prior to his arrival, he would always remind Miranda to make a list of things for him to do while he was with her. He was always there to help Miranda, Robbie and their families in any way that he could. He was ever so patient, he was their rock, and there was no limit to his support for them and his wife, Betty.
Bob was very self-educated. He spent countless hours reading, watching TV, searching on his iPad, and studying his World Atlas. Bob was a community man who was very involved in the church and he served as church warden for years and years. Bob was very sensible, responsible, interested and dedicated. He enjoyed the outdoors; the peace and quiet, the calm days and calm waters, he enjoyed sports, his favourite was NFL Football, talking to others, especially his grandchildren, visiting his mom, and taking in any information that added to his wealth of knowledge. He appreciated the history of our province and the roots of our family. He showed care, concern, and compassion for all. He loved culture, Newfoundland music, and he was known for singing some folk songs at home and sharing a special song that he sung to his mother these past few years.

Leaving to mourn his passing and remembering him forever: his wife Betty, daughter: Miranda (Sebastien Zazac), son: Robbie (Deanna Payne), grandchildren: Bobby, Blake, Lucien and Ariane, mother Edna, brother: Lloyd (Trudy), sisters: Sheila (Leslie) Dredge, Trudy (Gilbert) Matchim, Sharon (Tony) Dean, and Anne, brother-in-laws: Jim Furey, Gerald (Ruby) Coates, sister-in-laws: Marilyn (Whyman) Coles, Hazel and Ivy Coates, Aunt: Hazel Way, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will begin Friday May 2, 2025 at St. Marks Anglican Church in Savage Cove and continue through to the family service Saturday evening May 3, 2025. The Funeral Service will be held at 11am on Sunday, May 4, 2025 with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating, burial will follow the service in the Savage Cove Anglican Cemetery.
