PYNN, ANGELA

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the death of our beloved Mother Angela Pynn, born November 21 1967, who passed away on the 6th of December after fighting her hardest to over come a traumatic brain injury. Jesus decided she was of more use in heaven, at his side, where she is at peace and no longer suffering. A woman of blind faith in the lord, Angela wasnt without hurdles in life, but that didnt stop her from raising two wonderful boys, now men, Dustin and Donovan. A woman of great morals, no matter the situation, nothing was stopping her from being the best mother she could, whilst still working overtime to attain 3 post graduate degrees, instilling the importance of education on to her kin. Angela is survived by her children, Donovan(melanie)Max, cole, rosie.  Dustin and his children Ciara, Caleb, Brothers Wally(keith) terry and andrea and Ivan and his children Jordan Brandon and Gina. The family would like to thank the medical teams at both the health sciences center in St. johns and nurses here at Curtis Hospital . She is laid to rest at the old anglican cemetary along side her mom and dad. A formal service will be held later next year with dates tba

MITCHELMORE, WINSTON

September 11, 1940 - December 19, 2024

Mr. Winston Mitchelmore of Green Island Cove passed away in his home on December 19, 2024 surrounded by his loving family and friends at the age of 84 years.

He leaves to treasure memories, his Children: Marlene (Eric), Faye (Gerald), Julie (Harvey), Milton (Susie) and Josie (Dwight); Grandchildren: Jordan (Kelsey), Danny (Shelly), Susie (Chet), Chuck (Robin), Brandi (Lewis), Brady (Laura), Robby (Cassandra), Michelle (Youeil), Jada (Matthew), Monique (Jones); 19 Great Grandchildren; Special Friend and Partner: Carrie; Siblings: Milton (Patty), Elaine (Llewelyn), Alvin, As well as a large circle of family and friends

Winston is predeceased by his Wife: Dorcas; Son: Winston Jr.; and Parents: Elijah and Ethel.

The funeral service was held from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Lower Cove on December 23, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating. Interment followed in the Green Island Cove Cemetery.

TAYLOR, DENNIS

November 28, 1966- December 12, 2024

It is with a heavy heart that the family of Dennis Taylor announce his passing on December 12, 2024, at the age of 58 years. Dennis passed away peacefully at the Strait of Belle Isle Health Center, in Flower’s Cove, NL with his beloved wife of 28 years Patsy, along with family and friends by his side.

Dennis grew up in Forrster’s Point where he worked with the Doyle’s family in St. Barbe. Dennis had his first date with Patsy on August 23, 1987, where they began their life journey together. They had a beautiful son Sylvester together, they moved to BC where he began his career in the oilfield. They later moved to Alberta where his son decided to follow him into the oilfield. Dennis moved back to Newfoundland, March 2017 and went to work with Expro on the Hebron and later move to work on the Hibernia.

Dennis was a lover of all things outdoors, he enjoyed boating, ski-dooing, hunting, fishing, camping, playing cards, renovation projects and snowshoeing with Patsy where he would always want to go into the deep snow. Dennis was a man who always like to keep busy and was always ready to give a helping hand. He will be dearly missed by everyone who had the opportunity to have met him.

Leaving to mourn is his loving wife :Patsy(nee Stevens) ; sisters: Roxanne (Randy) and Jackie (Randy); Mother-in-law: Sadie; Sister-in-law: Marion (Absalom); Nephews: Troy (Virginia) and Ethan; Niece: Rainna and a large group of extended family and friends.

He is pre-deceased by his son Sylvester; his mother Tryphenna (Kitty); father-in-law: (William Henry); and grandparents Isaiah and Emily Taylor.

Dennis will be remembered as a man with a big heart, contagious laughter, and a smile that could brighten any room.

The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 8:00 PM from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove, NL with Rev. Canon Terrance Coates officiating. Interment to follow at a later date.

MITCHELMORE, CALVIN

October 31, 1948 - December 14, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Calvin Mitchelmore announce his peaceful passing at Curtis Memorial Hospital on December 14, 2024 at the age of 76 years, surrounded by his loving family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.

On April 6, 1970, he married the love of his life Wavey. Together they raised three children, George Henry, Sheldon, and Gina. At the age of 17, Calvin left home to work at IOC in Labrador City. He later returned home and attended Memorial University where he got his teaching degree. He was a teacher for 30 years. During that time, he gained a huge circle of friends and coworkers. Calvin was a devoted member of the Green Island Cove Lions Club where he took much pride in the work that was undertaken. He was very well known and respected throughout the area. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Calvin will forever be remembered and missed by: his Wife, Wavey; Children: George Henry (Yolanda), Sheldon (Nina), and Gina (Brook); Grandchildren: Kristen (Kyle), Skye (Jeff), Slayde, Kent, Harlee, and Hanna; Sisters: Mary Rachel (Herbert), Enid (Mike), Joy (Dennis), and Gail (Sidney); Brothers in law: John, Ike, and George (Lucy); Sister in law: Nancy (Grenfell); Nieces and nephews as well as many other extended family and friends.

Calvin is predeceased by: his Parents: George Henry and Myrtle; Parents-in-law: Harrison and Selina; Sister Gladys: Sister-in-law: Madeline and brother in law Amos.

The family would like to send many thanks to the staff of the Strait of Belle Isle Health Centre and Curtis Memorial Hospital for all the compassionate care during Calvin’s illness and passing.

WHITE, DULCIE

February 20, 1948 - November 24, 2024

It is with heavy hearts the family of late Dulcie White (Mitchelmore) announce her peaceful passing at Curtis Memorial Regional Hospital in St. Anthony on November 24, 2024 at the age of 76 years surrounded by her loving family. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.

On January 3,1968 she married the love of her life Thomas White. Together they raised three sons, Craig, Trent and Thomas Jr. She was a woman who loved her family immensely. She was a great cook and baker. She will be especially remembered for her famous hot dinner which entailed everyone’s favourites. She loved planting her garden and tending to is as it grew. She also had a love for cleaning and laundry which she had specific regulations. She will be dearly missed by all.

SIMMS, WILLIE PERCIVAL

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Dad and Pop, Willie Percival Simms (Bill, Po) (June 19, 1935 – November 20, 2024). Willie P. left us here on earth to join the love of his life, Millie, in heaven who welcomed him no doubt with a joyful embrace.

Predeceased by his mother and father (Herbert and Jane Simms); his brothers (Pascoe, Chris, Gord, and Samuel). Willie P. lived a beautiful life and was privileged to enjoy 89 full years with his loving family, who worshipped him; Nadine (Glen), Deanne (Dave), Gord (Colleen) and Lisa (Curtis). His six grandchildren, so lucky to have many special memories of ski doo rides, baked beans and drives around the harbour for ice cream; Natasha (Ryan), Jordan (Shelby), Nathan (Cheyenne), Heather (Brook), Shane and Emily. His cherished sisters; Margie, Donna, Mary,Eleanor, and brother in-law; Cliff (Betty).

Willie P. was a friend to many and enjoyed the company of all he met. Pop was a great storyteller and would often fondly recount his time working with the Grenfell Mission and teaching carpentry at the trade school. He was an active community member who devoted countless hours to the Canadian Rangers, Town Council, the St. Anthony Lions Club and other community groups.

Willie P.’s family would like to take this opportunity to profess a heartfelt thank you to those who provided care including the St. Anthony Volunteer Fire Department, RCMP, and the many healthcare providers at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital. Pop was very proud of his community and in his moment of need, received care that was second to none.

In Lieu of flowers and in his memory, the family suggests you donate to the St. Anthony Lions Club. Funeral service will be held at the St. Anthony United Church on Saturday, November 23rd at 11 am.

WHALEN, ELLEN (Nee Genge)

November 17, 1940 - November 18, 2024

It is with great sadness that the families of the Late Ellen Whalen announce her passing on Monday, November 18, 2024 at the Palliative Care Unit of Western Memorial Regional Hospital, Corner Brook, NL.

She will be sadly missed by her children: Judy Sheppard (Ed), Lorne Whalen (Wanda), Melvin Whalen (Judy); Grandchildren: Chuck Sheppard (Michelle), Chad Sheppard (Emiley), Chelsie Astles (Andrew), Corey Whalen (Shawna), Ross Whalen (Alyssa); Great-grandchildren: Jenna Sheppard, Kayla Sheppard, Logan Sheppard, River Sheppard, Gracie Whalen, Haley Whalen, Claire Astles, Amelia Astles, Zayne Whalen; Sister: Julie White (Ronald). Brothers: Henry Genge (Elva), Harris Genge (Barbara); Sister-in-laws Claire Genge, Hazel Genge.

She is predeceased by husband: Ross Whalen; father: Henry Genge; mother: Dorcas Genge; sisters: Polly Whalen, Jossie McLean, Lillian Genge, Constance Genge; and brothers: William Genge, Garfield Genge (Aurelia), Israel Genge, Cosmo (Marian).

A Family service will take place at the St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Flower’s Cove on Wednesday, November 20th at 7:00 p.m.

The Celebration of Life will occur on Thursday, November 21st at 2:00 p.m. at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Flower’s Cove. Rev. Canon Vernon Short, officiant. Interment to follow.

GENGE, LEVENIA

It’s with heavy hearts the family of Levenia Genge announce her peacefully passing with family by her side on Wednesday, November 13 at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in her 88th year.

Levenia was born on July 12th, 1936, in Anchor Point, Newfoundland. She married the love of her life, Norman, at the age of 18 on December 12, 1954. They lived in Anchor Point where they raised their family and made a livelihood in the fishery.

While raising her family Levenia helped her husband with daily fishing duties. Her work ethic was so admirable. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. In her later years she worked at the local fish plant. Levenia and Norman moved into Ivy Durley retirement home in 2003. Her final months were spent at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital.

Levenia enjoyed going to card games, but what she loved most was camping. In the mid 70’s family camping trips began and every opportunity they had they headed a the camp group. She also enjoyed “old English “TV shows, Young & Restless and all “the news”.

Levenia leaves to mourn her 4 children; Rayfield (Kim), Oscar, (Bonnie), Norm (Donna), and Gloria (Ken); 6 grandchildren Jeff (Ada), Brittany (David), Megan (Dylan), Jordan (Brianna), Neely and Alexa; 5 great grandchildren Renee, Finnley, Tylan, Harper and Lindsay; 7 siblings Wilfred, Vivian, Gloria (Robin), Stella (Clayton), ;Rowena (Ken), Jim (Betty), Helena (Melvin); 2 sister-in-laws Bernice and Pauline; and 2 brother-in-laws Isaac and Jim.

Levenia is predeceased by her husband Norman; parents William and Kathleen; brother Winston; sisters Annastasha, Hazel, and Juanita; mother and father-in-law Bertha and Elijah; brother-in-laws Simeon, Ronald, Chesley, Clyde, and Howard; sister-in-laws Olive, Dulcie, Millie, Dora, and Susanna.

PILGRIM, DANIEL TODD

December 9. 1959 - September 13, 2024

Todd (as known to family and friends) was born in Longueuil, Quebec on December 9, 1959, to Ross and Robena (Ruby) Pilgrim of Roddickton, NL. Todd passed from this life on September 13, 2024. Todd while born in Quebec grew up on Roddickton and always considered Roddickton as his hometown.

Todd began his career as a Natural Resource Officer after completing high school. He was chosen Valedictorian and Speaker of his class at the Canadian Institute of Forestry. He attained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Lakehead University in Ontario.

His career as a Forestry Officer began in Roddickton, afterwards he moved to Labrador and eventually to the Yukon where he built a home and made numerous lifelong friends along the way.

After Todd retired, he moved to BC to be closer to his children and to pursue further adventures in life. Todd wrote a children’s book called Angie, the Tundra Swan. The true story of his finding an injured swan, nurturing it and returning it to the wild.

Todd was a dedicated father, son, and brother with a great love for the outdoors, wildlife, and was always looking for the next adventure

He leaves to mourn children, Son, Thor Pilgrim and Daughter, Shantelle Pilgrim; Mother: Robena (Ruby) Pilgrim (Newhook); Brothers: Shane (Hilda) Pilgrim, and Trevor (Shanna) Pilgrim; Nephews and nieces: Russell Pilgrim, Ryan (Shawna) Pilgrim, and Shelby Pilgrim, Shelley (Chris) Haggett; Great nephew: Layne Pilgrim; Great nieces: Angelie Pilgrim, Eva Pilgrim, Callie Haggett and Tessa Pilgrim; Numerous Aunts, Uncles, and cousins throughout Canada.

His easy- going personality earned Todd numerous close friends throughout his lifetime. We will greatly miss him.

He is predeceased by his father: Ross Pilgrim; Paternal Grandparents: Harvey and Chatfield Pilgrim; Maternal Grandparents: William and Sarah Newhook.

Todd’s going home celebration will be held at the John Wesley United Church, Roddickton, NL on November 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.

The family wishes that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the John Wesley United Church in loving memory of Todd Pilgrim.

JACOBS, CLARICE

Clarice Elva Jacobs was born Nov. 2, 1934 on Horse Islands, NL to George & Helen (Rideout) Compton.  She was one of 5 children in the family.  At the age of 16 she and the family moved to Roddickton.  On June 27, 1953 she married Donald Jacobs and together they raised a family of 5 and made their lifelong home in Roddickton.  Clarice spent most of her life as a hardworking homemaker in every aspect. 

Later in life she acquired employment at the local crab plant – for which she was very proud and grateful.  She was deeply devoted to God and her church.  She was a devoted Sunday School teacher for a number of years and left a great impact on her students.  She was one of the early members of the Ladies’ Charity Group and remained a member for many years.  She enjoyed the fellowship & socializing with other ladies. 

She enjoyed knitting, sewing, and embroidery – especially quilt blocks – aiming for nothing less than perfection in her work.

Clarice also loved the great outdoors: cook-ups, berry picking, trouting.  She could spend hours casting out her line – whether she caught a trout or not.

She loved her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren dearly.  She passed peacefully away at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Nov. 9th, 2024.  She leaves to mourn her passing - son:  Clyde (Karen);  daughters: Wavey (Wilfred);  Sharon (Allan);  Lori. 

Grandchildren:  Lorinda, Lindy, Diana, Kelly, Michael, Melanie, Olise, Nneka, Emeka.

Great-grandchildren: Sophie, Meredith, Emelia, Diego, Rylan, Hadley, Liam, Mia, Oscar & Cassian.

Predeceased by: husband Donald, baby son: George, and grandson: Robert.  Her memory will live on!

Visitation is being held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton NL Beginning Wednesday, November 12th and continuing through to the funeral service at 11am on Thursday November 13th with Pastor Michael Ivany officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Church Community Cemetery.
