As time went by , Pearl returned to the workplace and spent many years teaching Sewing and Home Management at the Vocational School in St. Anthony, and later as a bank teller at Scotiabank, until her retirement at age 60.

Pearl was an excellent cook and baker and made sure nobody had an empty stomach. A skilled seamstress, she was very well known in the area and much sought after for sewing wedding attire , particularly bridesmaid dresses and wedding gowns. She made all her own clothes, was ahead of her time in style and fashion, and always put effort into looking her best. Pearl had a quick wit and sense of humour and liked nothing better than hearing ( or telling ) a good joke.Laughter and fun came easy to her.

Pearl dearly loved her greenhouse and garden and was happiest as she would say “when I’m up to my eyes in dirt” Along with Carl, they cultivated beautiful flowers and an abundance of vegetables, which were shared generously with friends and neighbours. She also loved berrypicking, and spending time at the cabin down the bay.

Ecclesiastes 3 : (1-8)
There is a time for everything
and a season for every activity under the heavens:

a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace.
