Gladys (Chambers) Gibbons

September 15, 1926 - January 23, 2023

It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys (Chambers) Gibbons announced her peaceful passing on January 23, 2023, at the age of 96, at the Rufus Guinchard Health Center in Port Saunders.

Leaving to mourn with lots of great memories are her children, Edith (Leslie) Toope, Bill (Daisy) Gibbons, Lesley Hillier, Virginia (Jim) Bradford, Vony ( Enos) Langdon, Ivy Toope, and Roy (Eliza) Gibbons.

Her grandchildren Gladys, Loretta, Melanie, Gina, Robert, James, Jessica, Ian, Devon, Jamie, Louis, Lynette, and Alex, and their partners.

Her great grandchildren Ashton, Aidan, Brooke, Luke, Hannah, Kate, Henry, Sophia, Billie, Kingstyn, Finley, and Jade and her sister-in-law Virginia Gibbons, as well as a large number of special nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jonathan and Mary Chambers, her husband Roy Sr., her children Louis and Dorcas, her grandson Stefan Gibbons, her son-in-law Graydon Toope, and her grandson- in- law Gary Doyle, as well as all her brothers and sisters.

Gladys grew up in Blue Cove and on February 3, 1952 she married Roy Gibbons and moved to St. Genevieve Bay where they raised their family until 1976, when they moved to Plum Point. Gladys had a large extended family whom she loved to have visits with and to chat with on the telephone and kept in touch with them all. She certainly enjoyed her calls and visits from everyone. She loved hearing about her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by all her family and friends.

The family would like to send a big thank you to the staff at the Ivy Durley Place in Flower’s Cove where she lived for 13 years. She made many friends there with the other residents and the staff. We cannot thank them enough for the great care they gave her while she was there. We would also like to thank the staff in Long Term Care at the Rufus Guinchard Hospital in Port Saunders for the special care they gave our mom during her time there.

Family service will take place on Thursday, January 26 at 8pm and the funeral service will be on Friday, January 27 at 11am form the church of the advent in Plum Point with Rev. Terry Coates Officiating

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthon and Roddickton, Alicia Patey Funeral director.


NEWMAN, GLADYS LUCY

Passed away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony into the loving arms of her Lord on the 11th of September, 2014, Mrs Gladys Lucy Newman, Age 89 of Bide Arm. Gladys was born November 15th 1924 to Samuel and Patience Cassell of Great Harbour Deep, NL, she leaves to mourn her Daughters Patsy Randell (Frank), of bide Arm NL, Juanita Randell (Ellwood) of Bide Arm NL, Iris Keefe (Robert) of Englee NL, Katie Hancock (Clarence) of Waterloo ON, Verna Reid (Sherlock) of Waterloo ON, sons Gideon Newman Of Englee NL and Wyatt Newman (Patsy) of Englee NL, her brother Edmund Cassell of Hampden NL as well as twenty one grand children, thirty three great grandchildren, and 10 great great grandchildren. Gladys lived to see the passing of her husband Maxwell Newman, Her brother Hezekiah Cassell and her sister Mary Cassell. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm, from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 14th of September with Pastor Howard Canning officiating. burial followed the service at the Church cemetery. Funeral Arrangements where entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral home in St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director. 

ELLIOTT, GLADYS

It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Gladys Rachel Elliott on July 19, 2013. Gladys Rachel Elliott was in her 86th year.  She also leaves to mourn, her brother George, her sister-in-law Dora Loder.  She also leaves to mourn many special nieces and nephews, a large group of friends, including her friends at Anglican Church Women’s League.  She is predeceased by her parents, Rachel and Lot Elliott, her brothers Fred and Ernest, her sisters Grace and Violet.  She leaves behind with many cherised and happy memories her ‘darling’ husband, Wilfred, of 61 years,  her sons Neil (Marie), Roy and Wayne (Bride), her grandchildren Christopher, Michelle, Allison, Kurt, Stephen and Adam, and her great granddaughter, Sophie. Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home on Monday July 22nd, 2013 2-4 and 7-9 from which the Funeral service took place on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at 2 pm at St. Mary’s Anglican Church with Fr. Rev Paul Findlay officiating. Cremation followed after the service. In lieu of flowers Donations gratefully accepted to the Anglican Church Cemetery Fund. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.
