In Loving Memory of James George Pilgrim

July 12, 1949 — November 5, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of James George Pilgrim, age 75, who

left us on November 5, 2024. James was born on July 12. 1949, in Griquet, Newfoundland, to

George and Mae Pilgrim.

James was united in marriage to the love of his life, Karen Pilgrim ( St. Anthony Bight), on

October 10. 1987. Together, they built a life in Griquet, where they raised their children and

created countless cherished memories.

A proud fisherman, James spent most of his life on the water, and he was known for his

unwavering dedication to his family and community. He was a passionate Toronto Maple Leafs

fan, proudly wearing his Leafs attire. In his free time, James enjoyed playing darts, berry

picking, and trouting. He found peace and purpose in reading his Bible and praising the Lord, a

source of comfort and strength throughout his life.

James was predeceased by his parents, George and Mae Pilgrim; his brothers, Ronald and

Edward; and his sister, Christine.

Left to mourn his loss are his devoted wife, Karen; daughters, Tina. April, and Mallory; sons,

Cory. Edward, and Dillon; grandchildren, Shannah, Daniel, Alexander. Connor, Zoe. Caylee,

and Olyver; and great-grandchildren, Deacon, Kyler, and Chay.

James is also survived by his brothers, Valance and Ernest; his sisters-in-law, Sylvia. Shirley,

and Madonna; his sons-in-law, Alasdair, Bradley, and Morgan; his daughter-in-law. Lynn; as

well as a large circle of friends and extended family.

James’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace,

embraced by the love and grace of the Lord.

FIELD, HEDLEY GEORGE

Born January 20th 1947, Mr. Hedley George Field passed peacefully away on April 6th, 2022 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony NL, in his 75th year

Hedley leaves to mourn his loving wife Clara and Daughter Lisa (Rob), 2 loving Granddaughters Lauren and Kiera, Whom he loved dearly. his 2 Brother Lloyd (Marjoree), Randy (Sheila) sister Donna (Jimmy) Step sister Tamsey, sister in law Dulcie (Wayne), sister in law Currie (Tom), Sister in law Rowena, as well as a large circle of nephews, nieces, family and friends.

Hedley was predeceased by his parents William and Violet Field, Step father Lambert and brother Clarence.

The memorial service was held at the St. Matthews Anglican Church in Cooks Harbour on Sunday April 10th with Rev. Arthur Kinsella Officiating. burial will follow at a later date, Funeral arrangements where entrusted to Kerry M. MITCHELMORE, GEORGE WILLIAM

George William Mitchelmore

Feb. 25, 1949 - Jan. 13, 2022

Passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 13th day of January 2022. Mr. George William Mitchelmore of Green Island Cove was in his 72nd year. George loved his family more than anything in this world. George was a family man and he worked hard all his life to ensure that his wife and children were taken care of. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Marina of 52 years. His children Randy(Mamie Ellen), Connie(Dewey) Grandchildren Sacha, Hannah Sister Lydia(Elder), Brother Whyman, as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Reginald and Johanna, sisters Julie and Dorcas, Sister-in-Law Minnie.
A memorial service will take place at a later date, Funeral arrangements are being entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral home St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.

PILGRIM, GEORGE BRAMWELL

George Bramwell Pilgrim was born November 16, 1925 to Lucy and Bramwell Pilgrim. September 11,1959 he married the love of his life Margaret Hussey. He lived in Little Brehat where he fished until 1961. He then resettled to St. Anthony and fished for a while then took up employment as night watchman at The College of the North Atlantic retiring at the age of 65. Through his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting, berry picking, gardening, playing cards, catching smelts for their cat Tigger and singing Christian Hymns. George passed away into peace on the Second of march, 2016, he Leaves to mourn Sister Maisie, sister in law Maisie (Morgan) Morgans Predeceased by His wife of 51 years Margaret, his parents, brothers Donald (Violet) Spurgeon ( Jemima), sisters Valetta (Reuben) Cull, Florrie (Abram) Richards, and brother in law Clem. Visitation was held at the Funeral home in St. Anthony, after which the funeral service was held at the St. Anthony United Church at 2:00pm on the 5th of March with Rev. Dinesh Gomes Officiating. Burial Followed in at the Fishing Point United Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger Funeral director. 

SIMMS, STERLING GEORGE

Passed away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 6th of May, 2015, Mr. Sterling George Simms of St. Anthony in his 77th year. Sterling leaves to mourn his wife Shirley Simms, his sons Terry (Donna), Morgan (Verla), daughter Sybil (Glenn), Grandchildren Christa (Darryl), Jason (Angelina), Kristopher and Shannon, Great grandchildren Karli and Kaeden. As well as his brother Watson (Betty), Sisters Mariam Lane (Rex), Barbara Barton (Vincent), Patsy Penney (Leon) and long-time family friend Lorne Slade.  Sterling was predeceased by his parents William and Bessie, Brother Wellington Sister Carol Good, Nephew Kevin Hillier and Niece Shenna Barton. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony and continued at the Pentecostal Church, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on the 10th of May 2015 with Pastor Jeff Bessey officiating, burial followed the service at the church cemetery. SEXTON, GEORGE JEROME

George J. Sexton was born Feb. 5, 1953 in Goose Cove to Wilfred and Lavenia Sexton. On Sept. 21st of 1973 he married Angela Patey and together they raised three Children who gave them the Joy of many grand children and step grand children, all of whom he adored with his whole heart. George was kind, humble, generous and caring. he was an excellent father and grandfather. he had a great love for fishing, hunting and anything to do with the great outdoors. he was a man who was always there to lend a helping hand. Left with a life time of loving memories are his Wife : Angela, Sons Dion (Lorna), Herbert (Jennifer), George (Jennifer), Grandchildren Hailey, Shannon, Marcus, Step Grandchildren Brandon, and Brady. Mother Lavnia, Brothers and sisters Max (Corinne) Tony (Helen), Elsie (Karen), Edward (Lillian), Mary (Renee), Reginald (Phylis), Ethel, Calvin (Agatha), Louis (Brenda), John, Winston (Donna), Evelyn (Bill), Lloyd (Rochelle), and Lavenia (Richard). George lived to see the loss of his father Wilfred sexton, grandparents George and Maryann Powell, Mike Sexton and Fannie Sexton. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony, after which the funeral service took place at 11:00am form the Roman Catholic Church in Goose Cove on the 3rd of June 2014 with Father Anthony Officiating. burial followed in the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Goose Cove. TOOPE, GEORGE

Passes away Suddenly in Pond Cove on the 28th of April, 2014, Mr. George Toope, in his 63rd year. Left behind with heavy hearts are Sybil, Mack (Shirley), Vicki (Cleon), Shannon (Krystle), Brandon (Jenine), Josh, Jorja, Jaxon they will keep him in their hearts forever. though he was a young man, George lived to see the passing of his parents Oliver and Deborah Toope. Visitation was held at the The Church of The Advent in Plum Point, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Saturday, May 3rd, with rev. Harold Harvey Officiating. burial followed the service in the community Cemetery at Darby's Island. Funeral Arrangements where entrusted to Kerry M. COMPTON, GEORGE GARLAND

Passed peacefully away at the White Bay Health Center in Roddickton on the 27th day of February 2014. Mr. George Garland Compton of Englee was in his 88th year. He leaves to mourn with cherished and loving memories his Wife of 64 years Nellie Compton,(Englee), Son Morgan(Bobbi)Compton, Fort McMurray, AB., Daughters Mae(David)Gill, Englee, NL., Frances(Garfield)Newman, Englee, NL., Judy Denney(Partner Ted Crouser), Edmonton, AB., Sheila(Ivan) Tymchuk, Sudbury, ON., fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren as well as a large circle of family and friends.  He was predeceased by his parents Alfred and Eve Compton and two Brothers Albert and Luke. Visitation was held at The Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 3rd day of March 2014 with Pastor George Burton and Pastor Fred Randell officiating. HUMBY, HENRY GEORGE

Passed away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 6th day of January 2014. Mr. Henry Humby of St. Lunaire – Griquet was in his 81st year. He leaves to mnourn with fond and loving memoires his wife Lavenia, Sons Raymond(Bessie), Robert(Gina), Michael, Dauhgters Blanche, Pearl, twelve grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, Sisters Lucy and Ivy, as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Eli and Agnes Humby, Brothers Joe, Ches, and Cyril, Sisters Edith and Jessie, Son Lawrence, and Grandson Jim. Visitation was held at The Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire – Griquet followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm on the 10th day of January 2014 with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Passed peacefully away on the 22nd of August 2013c at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital. Mr. Allan George Burden of St. Lunaire-Griquet was in his 68th year. He leaves to  mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Shirley, Son Paul (Lillian), Daughters Cleo (Paul) Tracey (Sheldon), Thresa (Kevin), Trudy(Randy), ten grandchildren Jeffrey, April, Clarissa, Dylan, Danielle, Braydon, Alexander, Mackenzie, Summer Lee, Jonah, two great grandchildren Victoria, Jaxon, one brother and five sisters as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his Parents Hazel and Harrison Burden, Brothers Ralph, Hayward, Roland. Visitation was held at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in Griquet from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 25th day of August 2013 with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. Interment followed at the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.
