WALKER, EVELYN EDITH (nee Slade)

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts, that our family announces the passing of Evelyn Walker on May 26, 2022, at the age of 93. At her passing she was surrounded by the love of her family and friends.

Evelyn was born in St. Anthony, NL in 1928, where she met and married Joe and lived most of her life. She worked tirelessly to obtain her medical librarian certificate and through her many years at the Grenfell Hospital she rose to be the medical records librarian, retiring in 1989.

At her passing Mom had many roles, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great Great Grandmother, Aunt, Sister and Friend. She was at her happiest when surrounded by her family and friends. When we would get together mom loved baking breads and pies, cooking all of our childhood favorites and playing a raucous game of “Bang”. Mom enjoyed knitting and many of us were fortunate enough to enjoy the warmth of her gunner mitts, wool socks, toques, chair booties and afghans.

Evelyn is survived by daughters Jean (Jim), Joan (Bill), Dona (Wilson), Linda (Bill), her daughter in law Marilyn, her sister Millicent and her very dear friend Rachel and her family. She is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and recently, her first great great grandchild, all of whom she loved and adored.

She was predeceased by her husband Joe, son Tony and 3 grandchildren, Andrea, Adam and David

Cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Evelyn’s life will be held at a to be determined date in at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony NL as per her request where she will be laid to rest with those that passed before her.

In lieu of flowers etransfer donations can be made to the Grenfell Foundation at foundation.south@lghealth.ca. The money received will be used to purchase much needed equipment for the hospital.
