PATEY, DRUSCILLA (Nee Taylor)

October 8, 1950 - February 3, 2025

It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Drucilla Patey announce her passing on the 3rd of February, 2025 at the age of 74.

Drucilla loved to spend her time in the outdoors, whether close to home or at her cabin. She also loved to fish- summer or winter! She liked to trout, ice fish and smelt. Most of all, she loved to spend time with her family, especially her two grandsons. Being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys but she was also a cherished wife of over 54 years, mother, sister, aunt and friend. She will be dearly missed by those who loved and knew her.

She leaves to cherish memories, her husband: Louden; Daughter: Jeanne (Roger); Son: Lorne (Janet); Grandsons: Nicko and Ethan; Brothers: Abel (Viola), Norman (Gloria); Sisters: Bertha and Lucy, as well as many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other extended family.

Drucilla is predeceased by her Parents: Llewelyn and Emily Taylor; and Brothers; Hector, Harvey, and Willie.

A celebration of life will take place on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 2:00 PM from the St. Anthony United Church with Carol Roberts and Minnie Morris officiating. Inurnment to follow at a later date.

POWELL, DONALD

February 14th, 1941 - April 20th, 2023 

It is with great sadness that the family of  Donald Powell announce his passing on April 20th, 2023 at Curtis Memorial Hospital, in St. Anthony, Newfoundland.

Donald was born February 14th 1941 to Albert and Sarah Powell. At a young age, he moved to St. Anthony to further his education. He began his career working with Labrador-Grenfell Health for 33 years. On May 7th, 1977 he married Emma Joan Colbourne of St. Anthony where they settled down to raise their family. 

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 45 years, Joan, 5 children, Bary Colbourne (Gaye), Natasha Sharpe (Anders), Brad Powell (Melanie), Janene Powell (Carey) and Dana Powell (Emily), 7 grandchildren, Christopher and Cameron, Sarah, Matthew and Ryan, and Nikolas and Dylan, and one great grandchild,  Madison. 

He also leaves to mourn his sisters, Sadie, Lydia and Gertie. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Sarah, his siblings, Alfred, Hedley, Melvin, Gordon and Beulah, and special niece, Donna.

SIMMS, MAISIE (Nee Pilgrim)

February 6, 1937 -April 15, 2022

Passed peacefully away at the John M Gray Seniors Hone surrounded by her loving family at the age of 85 years.

Maisie was born to Bramwell and Lucy Pilgrim in Little Brehat, her Mom was sick and died at a young age. From then on Maisie took over the household when her mother became ill. She met and married Clem Simms and moved to St Anthony Bight in 1958 where they lived their lives and raised their family. Maisie owned and operated the general store in St Anthony Bight until she retired. She enjoyed visiting with people of the community as they came into the shop. Maisie was a member of the United Church in St Anthony and St Anthony Bight. She spent many hours knitting, crocheting and quilting. She enjoyed the final product and gifting her creations to her family.

Maisie will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

She leaves to mourn Children; Wade (Eileen), Sandra (Terry) Lewis; Special Grandchildren and Greatgrandchildren that she loved and adored, Jennifer (Herb), Justin, Dylan, Hailey and Marcus. Special Niece/Sister Millicent Fowler, as well as many other nieces and nephews that she cherished.

She is predeceased by Husband Clem, son Dwayne, Brothers and Sister in Laws Don Pilgrim (Violet), Spurgeon Pilgrim (Gemima), Florence Richards (Abraham), Lettie (Ruben) Cull, George (Margaret) Pilgrim, Dulcie (Max) Cull, and Ivy Pilgrim.

Visitation to take place from Kerry M Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony on Saturday, April 16, 2022 from 7-9 pm and on Sunday, April 17, 2022 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. RICHARDS, TONY BRAMWELL

May 18, 1956 – Oct 1, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a loving husband, father, and grandfather Tony Richards at Curtis Memorial Hospital, at the age of 65 years.  Tony was born to Abram and Florrie Richards of Little Brehat and moved to St. Anthony at the age of two.  He had a typical childhood filled with schooling and growing up, and later attended college where he met the love of his life Winnie (White) and in 1977 became parents to their only daughter Charmaine.  He spent years working with FPI and St. Anthony Seafoods and lastly with Department of Transportation and Works at the College of the North Atlantic.  Tony made a lot of friends during the years and spent plenty of time in his boat fishing, and hunting.  In 2009 his pride and joy, his one and only grandson Caden was born and life had a whole new meaning.  Being a grandfather was his favorite role and he enjoyed every minute of it.  Tony was loved greatly by all who knew him.  He will be fondly remembered by his wife of 40 years Winnie, daughter Charmaine (Corey), and grandson Caden; siblings Nina (Boyd), Lillian (Wilf), Betty (Ed), Willard (Betty), and Linda (Graham), and In-laws Melvina (Fred), Shirley (late Chris), Calvin (Mary Ann), and David (Tracey); and a large number of nieces and nephews and their families.  He is predeceased by his parents Abram and Florrie Richards, in-laws Elijah and Ina White, sister Stella (Reginald), brother Valence, and brother in-law Douglas.       

Family visitation will take place Saturday, Oct 2, 2-4pm and Sunday Oct 3, 7-9pm.  The funeral will take place at St. Anthony United Church on Monday Oct 4 at 2pm with Rev. John McGonigle officiating.  Interment to follow at the United Church Cemetery.  Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. PENNEY, OLIVE

Passed away peacefully at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial hospital on the 31st of December, 2019. She will be sadly missed by her lifelong friend and husband of 64 years, Tom, her son Jim Penney (Catherine), her daughter Debbie Anderson (Morgan), her three grandchildren, Gail Sexton(Mason), Jeffrey Anderson and Jonathan Anderson, her great granddaughter Ember Sexton, her brother Lloyd Tucker (Clara), stepsister Mary Kinsella (Gilbert), stepbrother Ford Pilgrim (Susan), brothers -in-law Roy Penney, Paul Penney (Becky), and Stewart Payne and a large circle of family and friends including her furry friends Jessie and Raya.

Predeceased: Father and mother, Gordon Tucker and Julie Ann Pilgrim, step-father Eric Pilgrim, father-in-law Clement Penney Sr., sisters in-law Selma Payne and Ivy Pilgrim.

Her memorial service was held at the St. Anthony United Church in St. Anthony at 11am on the 3rd of January, 2020 with the arch bishop Stewart Payne officiating. Burial followed the service at the Fishing point United Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres funeral home, st. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard funeral director.

BEST, MARGARET MARY


November 15, 1936 – September 24, 2019

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Nursing Home in St. Anthony at the age of 82 years. Margaret Best (Quinlan) was born to Fannie (Brown) and Walter Quinlan of Wild Bight. She married Norman Best on December 3, 1955 and together they raised four children. She leaves to mourn with fond memories, her Children; Keith (Trudy), Kevin Sr. (Shirley), Elmore (Sharon), and Dwayne (Daphne); Sisters, Viola (William Seeley), Linda (Don Butler); Brother, John; In-laws, Frances and Lewis Pynn, Patricia Best, Ruth Quinlan; Grandchildren, Bev (Tim), Sheryl (Darren), Brenda (Brad), Nikki (Terry), Curtis, Candace (Justin), and Kevin Jr; Great-grandchildren, Parker, Preston, and Stanley. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Norman; Parents, Walter and Fannie (Brown) Quinlan); Brothers, Raymond and Ross; Sister, Beatrice Patey; In-laws, Edgar and Gertrude Best, Bud Best, Hazel (Maidment) Quinlan, and Baxter Patey. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and will continue on Thursday, September 26, 2019 from 2-4 pm with the family service taking place at 8:00 pm Thursday evening. The funeral will be held on Friday, September 28th, 2019 from the United Church in St. Anthony with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Cremation to follow with inurnment at a later date. DAVIS, WALLACE THORNHILL SR.

Passed peacefully away on February 25, 2019 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in the presence of his family, Wallace Davis, Sr. of St. Anthony, NL in his 92nd year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, his beloved wife Grace (nee Carpenter) of 64 years; children, Wally (Una) and Brenda (Kevin); Grandchildren Michael, Brian (Jennifer), David, and Aaron (Jamie); Sister Greta Ollerhead; Brother-in-law Bill Carpenter (Ruby) and a wide circle of family and friends. Predeceased by his parents Ellis and Agnes Davis; Sister Josie Elms; Brother Harold Davis; Brother-in-laws Bill Ollerhead and Raymond Elms; Sister-in-laws Olive Davis and Pearl Anderson. Age 67 Years

 Wayne Pilgrim was born in St. Anthony on August 9, 1950 and passed on December 30, 2017. He was married to Bernette Campbell on December 5, 1969. They had one son Brian who is married to Yvonne. Wayne and Bernette had five grandchildren: Travis, Ty­son, Danielle, Chantelle and Janelle. They had three great-grandchildren Bentley, Callie and Aubree. They had a special niece Sandra (Lorne) Pilgrim. Wayne had two sisters Jean Canning and Cavell Kippen. As well, he had two sisters-in-law Pat (Clyde) Patey and Belinda (Ray) Richards. Wayne and Bernette were raised in the United Church in St. Anthony and remember most fond­ly the laughter and the singing. He leaves to mourn his wife Bernette (Campbell) Pilgrim; Son Brian (Yvonne); Grandchildren Travis, Tyson, Danielle, Chantelle, Janelle; Great-grandchildren Bentley, Callie, Aubree; Special Niece  Sandra (Lorne) Pilgrim; Sisters Jean Canning and Cavell Kippen; Sisters-in-law Pat (Clyde) Patey, Belinda (Ray) Richards; as well as his Nephews, Nieces, extended family, and friends. passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre in St. Johns on Monday, March 26th, 2018 at the age of 77 years, surrounded by loving family. Alma was born on July 31, 1940. She leaves to mourn with tender and loving memories her children, Audrey (Wayne) Hillier, Mary Snelgrove, Albert (Kelly) Penney, Susan Penney, Steven Penney; Grandchildren Jennifer, Justin, David, Alex, Joshua, Zachary, Rachel, Sarah; Great-grandchildren Reid, Cameron, Jesse, Casey; Brothers Max (Jane) Bussey, Ross (Betty) Pilgrim; Sister Susie (Charlie) Reardon; Brother-in-law Roger (Kate) Penney; sister-in-law Dora Penney; as well as her nieces, nephews, and a large circle of extended family and friends. It is with great sadness that the family of Goldie Simms announce her passing on Thursday, January 11th, 2018 at Charles S. Curtis Memorials Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 90 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories Son Terry (Pauline), Daughter Dale (Kenney), Son Jeff (Maryann); Grandchildren Jeff (Eileen), Mark (Kathy), Janet (Maurice), Trevor (Tara Lee); Great Grandchildren Christa, Shawn, Lauren, Calie Rae, Riley, Karlie, Megan; Brother Nathaniel Gould (Barb); Sisters-in-law Cornelia Sweetland, Gladys Cooper, and Aurelia Gould; as well as two close friends who became like daughters to her- Minnie Morris and Dot Colbourne, and a number of other family and friends. Goldie was predeceased by her Husband Wilfred, Grandson David, Brother Garfield Gould, Great-Granddaughter Danielle, Great-Grandson Christopher, Brothers-in-law Arthur Sweetland and Thomas Cooper.
