HEDDERSON, WINSOR

January 5th, 1949 – February 4th, 2024

It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Winsor Hedderson announce his passing on February 4th, 2024 at the age of 75 years at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.

Winsor was born to Garland and Frances Hedderson (nee Patey) on January 5, 1949. He married his true love Nellie Pittman of Cook’s Harbour on May 7th, 1971. Together they built their lives in Cook’s Harbour and raised two Children, Lisa and Chad. He worked in the fishery all of his life. A career he truly loved until his retirement.

He leaves to mourn with many fond memories his wife of 52 years, Nellie, Children: Lisa (Noel) and Chad (Trina); grandchildren: Victor, Dorrie (Christopher), Alyssa and Baylee; Sisters: Jaunita, Marilyn (Llewelyn); Donna (Earl), Myra, and Sharon (Erastus); Brothers: Alonzo (Thelma), Bill (Barbara), Ken (Joy), and Ted (Marina); Sister- in-law Ellen and many nieces and nephews.

Winsor is predeceased by his parents, Garland and Frances Hedderson, Brothers: Thomas and Wayne; Brothers-in-law: Reginald Decker, Rex Elms, and Bernard Prins; and a very special Uncle Silas.

The family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at The John M. Gray and Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital for their help and support in caring for Winsor. A special thanks to his homecare workers Louise Short and Beatrice Short for their time in taking care of Winsor while he was at home. God Bless you all!

Visitation will take place at Wesley United Church in Cook’s Harbour beginning Wednesday, February 7th. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 9th, 2024 at 2:30 pm with Rev. Arthur Kinsella officiating. Interment to follow at Central United Cemetery, Quirpon Branch.

CARROLL, EMILY "JANE"

It is with great sadness that the family of Emily “Jane” Carroll announce her passing. Jane was born in Cook’s Harbour on December 11th, 1922, she was one of seven children of James and Mary Ann Short. She lived in Cook’s Harbour until she met the love of her life William Carroll, she she married on January 11, 1943. She then moved to William’s home town of Locke’s Cove, that same year they welcomed their first born son Herbert. In 1952, they were blessed with their only daughter Girty, and their second son Maxwell was born in 1956. In 1967 the residents of Locke’s Cove were forced to resettle, Jane and Bill then moved back to Cook’s Harbour. They loved life and family so much they shred many happy moments that included the birth of five granddaughters Darlene, Nadine, Natalie, Deanna, Nancy, Two Grandsons Travis and Tyrone. Jane often cooked for her entire family, she was the glue that held her family together during meal times and all holidays. At times she prepared meals for twenty- five people or more, she always loved having a crowd around. She worked hard during her life time as each new baby, she was blessed with eleven Great- Grandchildren Billy, Jayden, Dustin, Brooke, Dillon, Aadyn, Justice, Xander, Addyson, Sophie, and Briar. Jane had a very difficult year in 2007, when her beloved husband of 64years passed away. After his passing she moved in with her daughter Girty, life was never the same for her. She still tried to enjoy life to its fullest, but a huge piece of her world was missing. Her health gradually began to decline, in August 2013 she became bedridden. The next three years she depended entirely on her family, which wasn’t easy for a woman who was always use to tending on others. On April 21st, 2016 Jane was admitted to the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, this was a difficult decision for her daughter Girty. Jane’s health was declining faster and she passed peacefully away on April 25th, 2016 at 5:20M. Janes leaves behind a large circle of family and friends who will miss her for the rest of their lives. She leaves to mourn Her loving Daughter and Best Friends Girty Larkin (James), Her Youngest Son Maxwell Carroll(Barbara), Sister Bertha Noble, Brother Absalom Short(Violet), Grandchildren Darlene(Deon), Nadine(Hank), Natalie(Randy), Deanna(David), Nancy(Steven), Travis(Krystal), and Tyrone(Sally), Her Great- Grandchildren Billy, Jayden, Dustin, Brooke, Dillon, Aadyn, Justice, Xander, Addyson, Sophie and Briar as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her Husband William Carroll, Son Herbert Carroll, Daughter-in-law Mamie Carroll, Parents James and Mary Ann Short, Brothers Chesley (Martha), Walter (Josephine), and Stanley, Sister Girty Campbell (Jake).  Visitation was held at William Carroll’s House in Cook’s Harbour after which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Friday April 29th, 2016 at the United Church in Cook’s Harbour with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Interment followed at the Church Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director 

CARROLL, FRANCIS HERBERT

It is with great sadness that the family of Herbert Carroll announce his passing on January 18, 2016. Herbert was born in Locke's Cove on July 20th, 1943 - he was the oldest child of William & Emily Jane Carroll. He lived in Locke's Cove until he married the love of his life Mamie Williams in 1967.  Thatsame year theresidents of Locke's Cove were forced to resettle. Herbert & Mamie then moved to Cook's Harbour where they built their own home and began their family, in 1971 they welcomed their first born daughter Darlene & their second daughter Deanna was born in 1977. They loved life & family so much, but with the birth of their first grandson Jayden Adey in 1999, they experienced a love much greater than life itself. Then, in 2000, they were blessed with a second grandson Dustin Carroll. In, 2010 Herbert was blessed with yet another grandson Justice Adey, which helped him deal with the grief of losing his beloved wife Mamie. Herbert had a very difficult year in 2009, when his loving wife passed away from heart failure on August 9th. Herbert's family was his life, he lived each day making sure his wife, daughters & grandson's were well taken care of. He was a hard working fisherman and the captain of his own fishing  VesselThe "Fortune Cape" until the decline in the fishery. On February 22nd, 2011 Herbert was diagnosed with Bowel Cancer & would need to undergo emergency surgery. He had a very difficult recovery and was forced to move out of his own home, he moved in with his youngest daughter Deanna & her family in March 2011. The next few years he continued to battle several rounds of chemotherapy and the return of his cancer. Herbert passed away peacefully at his daughter's home on January 18th, 2016 at 11:12pm, surrounded by his family who will miss him for the rest of their lives. Herbert leaves to mourn his loving daughters - Darlene Carroll (Deon Curl) & Deanna Adey (David Adey); his grandsons - Dustin Carroll, Jayden & Justice Adey; mother - Emily Jane Carroll; Sister - Girty Larkin (James); Brother - Maxwell Carroll (Barbara); Sister-in-law - Annie Williams; Brother-in-law - Roland Williams (Marg) as well as a large number of nieces and nephews, friends and family. He was predeceased by his wife- Mamie Williams Carroll; father- William Carroll; and Brother-in-law- Cecil Dredge. Visitation was held in the  United Church in Cooks Harbour from where the Funeral Service was held on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Internment followed in the United Cemetery in Cooks Harbour. Funeral Services Entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.
