COLES, RALPH JR.

February 13, 1953 - March 12, 2024

 It’s with great sadness that the family of Ralph Coles Jr. announce his passing on Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at the Strait of Belle Isle Health Center at the age of 71.

Ralph Coles Jr. was born February 13, 1953 to Stella and Ralph Coles of Sandy Cove, NL. He was the middle of 12 children. Ralph spent most of his younger life fishing with his 5 brothers on the vessel, the Viking Trail, in which the brothers formed an unbreakable bond. His love for the outdoors touched the lives of many, for whom he worked as a hunting/fishing guide around outfitting camps of Newfoundland and Labrador. 

Ralph leaves to mourn his sisters: Margaret, Lucy (George), Eileen (Clyde), Daisy and Joy (Roland). Brothers: Eldred (Evelyn) and Whyman (Marilyn); Sister-in-law: Eliza Coles, as well as countless nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of family and friends.

 He is predeceased by his Parents: Stella and Ralph Coles. Siblings: Edmund, Howard, Albert and Vivian Coles.

Visitation to take place from St. Thomas’ Anglican Church in Sandy Cove beginning the evening on Monday, March 18, 2024. The funeral will take place on Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating. Inurnment to follow in the Savage Cove Anglican Cemetery.

COLES, MINNIE

June 8, 1947 - February 20, 2024

It’s with great sadness that the family of Minnie Coles announce her sudden passing at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

Minnie (Caines) Coles was born June 8, 1947 to Henry and Mary Elizabeth (Coates) Caines. She married the love of her life, Albert Jacob Coles on April 18th, 1968. Together they had two children, Melvin Coles (Lisa) and Kimberley White (Andy).

Teaching was her passion, and she retired with a full career at the young age of 45. She was very loving and devoted to her family and friends.

Minnie leaves to mourn her children: Melvin (Lisa), Kimberley (Andy). Grandchildren: Alex (Jasmine), Andrea (Ty), and Reese. Great Grandchildren: Beau and Vaughn. Brother and sister in-laws, countless nieces and nephews, as well as a large circle of family and friends.

She is predeceased by her husband Albert Jacob Coles, Parents: Mary Elizabeth and Henry Caines, Siblings: Nathaniel, Dulcie and Melvin Caines.

Cremation will be taking place with the funeral service and burial to be announced at a later date.

WHITE, WALTER SR.

August 20, 1947-November 22, 2023

It was with great sadness that the family of the late Walter White Sr. announced is peaceful passing at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on November 22, 2023, in his 76th year.

He leaves to mourn his loving and devoted wife of 53 years Caroline. His Sons: Walter Jr (Jennifer) White, Marcus (Tonya) White and Daughter Nicole (Stephen) White; Granddaughters: Jemma (Chris) Gould, Jorden (Cole) White, Brittany (William) White and Stephanie Strickland; Grandsons: Brandon White (Shawna), Carter Applin and Jaxon Applin; Great-Great Grand Children: Lexie Hedderson, Clara Hedderson, Mia White, Jaxon Flynn, James White, Noah Gould, and Michael Strickland; Brothers: Twin Brother Thomas (Dulcie) White, Jacob White, Jim (Jessie) White, Marcus (Emelene) White; Sisters: Emily Whalen, Mariah Gould.

He is predeceased by: Parents: Emanuel and Virginia White, Parent-In-Laws: Frederick and Mathilda Williams; Brother: Raymond (Enid) Toope; Sister-In-Laws: Cinderella Toope, Pauline White and Brother-In-Laws: Wilson Toope, Nelson Whalen, and Carl Gould.

The family service will take place on Friday, November 24th, 2023, at 7:00 pm. The funeral will be held at St. Thomas’ Anglican Church in Sandy Cove on Saturday, November 25th, 2023, at 2:00 pm with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating. Interment to follow at the Anglican Cemetery in Savage Cove.

COLES, VIVIAN EMILY

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Vivian Emily Coles announce her peaceful passing at Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony at the age of 84 years.

Vivian was born on January 7th 1939 to Ralph and Stella Coles of Sandy Cove. She was raised with 6 brothers and 5 sisters whom she remained very close to all of her life. Vivian grew in Sandy Cove and later moved to Gosse Bay where her and her sister, Margaret settled. She loved visitors, dining out every chance she had, and never refused a good laugh. Even though she lived in Goose Bay, she remained close to her family back in Sandy Cove where she later lived for the remainder of her life.

Vivian is forever loved and will be sadly missed by brothers and sister: Eldred (Evelyn), Margaret, Shawn. Eileen (Clyde), Lucy (George), Ralph, Daisy (Eddie and Brian), Whyman (Marilyn), and Joy (Roland); Sister-in-laws: Eliza and Minnie Coles, as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She is predeceased by parents Ralph and Stella; Brothers: Edmund, Alberts, and Howard.

COLES, ROLAND JR.

May 27, 1948 - February 26, 2023

It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved Roland “Rollie” Coles of Sandy Cove, Newfoundland at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on February 26, 2023 at the age of 74 years.

Roland is survived by his loving wife Ivy (Genge); his children, Billy (Tama), Bobby (Amy) and granddaughter Liliana, 5 sisters Eva (Garfield), Eliza, Sara, Barbara (Harris), Mona (Stanley), and special nephew Melvin (Sonya) as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Roland was predeceased by his father Roland Sr., his mother Miriam, his sisters Dora, Margaret, Alma and father in law William Genge.

There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to Roland’s nieces Annette & Colette. They were like daughters to him and they honoured their uncle by selflessly supporting him and our family in his greatest time of need.

Roland touched the lives of so many people with his generosity, kindness, and friendship. He will truly be missed and will never, ever, be forgotten.

He enjoyed the cabin life, moose hunting trips, and also enjoyed coaching his boys playing hockey. He never went anywhere without Ivy by his side, and they cherish many memories that will last forever.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date for family and friends to honour the beautiful life and soul of our Rollie Coles.

CAINES, PHYLLIS JEAN

With heavy hearts the family of the late Phyllis Caines would like to announce her passing on February 7th 2023 at the age of 74. Phyllis passed away at Curtis Memorial Hospital after a long battle with dementia.

Phyllis Jean Gaskin was born in Moncton, NB on December 8th 1948 to Ronald and Beryl Gaskin. She grew up on a farm outside Salisbury, NB which played a large part in her love of the outdoors and animals. After finishing nursing school in Montreal, Phyllis worked in several provinces before finally taking a job as a nurse in Flowers Cove. It was here she met her husband, George Caines with whom she spent the following 48 years and raised two sons, Brian and Trevor.

Phyllis enjoyed her job as a nurse and was loved and respected by both her patients and co-workers for her caring nature and endless patience. She was also heavily involved in the local Anglican Church and played the organ in various churches in the parish for regular services and special occasions. She will be dearly missed by both her family and all that knew her well.

Phyllis is survived by her husband, George; sons; Brian (Marcia) and Trevor (Trina), grandchildren; Caylea, Keanan, Kyauna, and Emerise. In-laws; Hazareth (Isaac); Evelyn (Sam); Sharon (Floyd) and nieces and nephews.

She is pre-deceased by her parents Ronald and Beryl Gaskin, brother, Roger Gaskin and in-laws Hazel & Roland Caines.

The family would also like to thank her home care workers who cared for her during the past number of years. Also, thanks to the doctors and nurses at Curtis Memorial Hospital who cared for Phyllis during her past three weeks at Curtis Memorial Hospital.

Cremation has taken place. A family service will be held at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Sandy Cove on Sunday, September 17, 2023 at 8:00 PM. The funeral service will follow on Monday, September 18, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating. Interment to follow.

July 31, 1936 - March 17, 2022

It is with broken hearts the family of Nelson White announce his peaceful passing on March 17, 2022. It is with great sadness the family of Maria White announce her passing Saturday, March 19th, 2022, at St. Clare’s Hospital, St. John’s, NL at the age of 80 years.

Leaving to mourn with loving and fond memories, Children: Gary (Linda), Vicky (Aaron), Dale (Morris), and Jody (Frank); Grandchildren: Joey (Josie), Brittany, Gillian, Zackary, and Mia; Great-grandchildren: Parker and Ryland, as well as her Brothers (Clifford, Garfield, Hedley) and Sisters (Ella, Georgina, Ruby, Emily), and many other family and friends.

February 11, 1944 - February 25, 2022

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Winston Coles announce his passing at the John M Gray Centre in St. Anthony, NL on the morning of February 25, 2022 at the age of 78 years. Winston was a kind and proud family man, a loving and devoted husband, an absolutely amazing father and grandfather. He was most happiest when he was surrounded by his family, friends, children and four legged friends and if it was Christmas time all the more better.

Leaving to mourn with cherished memories as his wife Eileen; Daughter Rhonda; Son, Kirby Jr. (Julie); Granddaughter, Jessica (Sandi); Grandson, Luke; Sister, Vernita (Coy), and a huge circle of family and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Leslie Sr. and Edna Coles; Twin Sister, Clementina; Sisters, Thamsie, Millie and Judy; Brothers, Stedman Sr., Gerald Sr and Kirby Sr.

It is with deep sadness that the family of the late Alma Coles announces her peaceful passing at the Health Science Centre surrounded by her loving family on August 20, 2021 at the age of 80 years.
Alma leaves the mourn with fond and loving memories her three sons Leslie (Agnes) Lyman (Marion Ann) and Gerald (Faye). Grandchildren: Jordan (Kelsey), Lyndon, Genine (Corey), Andy (Ashley) and Brady. Great Grandchildren: Chloe, Spencer, Aiden, Kayden, Kyle, Marlie, Sunny, Colby, Gracie, Janelle, Terrence (son Matthew) and Phoenix.
