It is with great sadness that the family of the late Samuel Kinsella announce his passing at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony, NL at the age of 82 years. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories, May Kinsella (Nee Cull), Wife of 60 years; Daughter, Stephanie; Son, Samuel (Dawn); Daughter Brenda; Daughter, Kim (Michael); Daughter Roxanne (Scott); Grandchildren, Aimee Kinsella, Hayley Kinsella, Noah Coish, Allie Gardner; Brother, Harold (Edna); Sister, Shirley (Rod); Sister Phyllis (Gary); Brother, George (Juanita), as well as a large circle of Nieces and Nephews. He is predeceased by his father, George Kinsella (2004) and Mother, Roseanna Kinsella (nee Richards) (2009). Sam was a wonderful husband, father, and businessman. He and his Wife raised 5 children and ran 2 successful businesses for more than 30 years. He was a dedicated member of the Lions Club and enjoyed playing musical instruments including the organ and accordion. He was a self-made, successful businessman that was always there to help anyone in need. Due to Covid 19 restrictions the funeral will be by invitation only at the St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 officiated by Reverend Deacon Art Kinsella.

HURLEY, SAMUEL STEVEN

Samuel Steven Hurley March 14, 1926 - August 25,2020 Samuel Hurley passed away peacefully at Roddickton House in Roddickton on August 25,2020 at the age of 94. He was born on March 14th,1926 but due to error his birth was listed as 1927, He was the only son born to James and Rebecca Hurley of Westport,NL along with his sister Sarah. He moved to Ship Cove as a very young boy with his family and lost his father James shortly after. His mother remarried his step father Charles Decker and they both had 6 other children. Samuel met his first wife Bessie Andrews and were married Nov 10,1948 and together they raised 10 children, Bessie passed in 1987 and after several years met Louise Hammond and were married until her death in 2004. Samuel worked as a fisherman and in the lumber woods for most of his working life. He also worked in carpentry, he enjoyed working with his hands making figures and boats with wood and other materials which he sold or gave to family,friends and those who just stopped by, which admired them. He also enjoyed reading, doing puzzle books, berry picking, and gardening. Samuel is survived by his children James Hurley, Catherine (Edward) Humby, Edna (Lloyd) Desmond, Wilson Hurley, Patricia Mercer, Guy (Joy)Hurley, Iona Taylor, Audrey Hurley(Sterling Dawe), Siblings Sarah Hedderson, Florence Hedderson and Jessie Tucker, along with 25 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren and a large circle of family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents James Hurley, Rebecca Decker and step father Charles Decker, wifes Bessie Hurley and Louise Hurley, daughter Audrey Hurley, son Edmund Hurley, daughter in law Lephna Hurley, son in law Keith Mercer, brothers Henry, Charles and Wilbur Decker and sister Bertha Hedderson. Funeral services will take place on Friday August 28, 2:00pm at Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire- Griquet followed by burial at Pentecostal cemetery in Ship Cove. Funeral Services are entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.

COMPTON, SAMUEL LEANDER

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 13th day of March 2016. Mr. Samuel Compton of Roddickton was in his 84th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Brothers Noah Compton, St. Anthony, NL; Stan Compton (Laverne Adams), Roddickton, NL; Andrew Compton, Roddickton, NL; Sisters Ruth (Hazen Hynes, Roddickton, NL; Cora (Stanley) Jenkins, Roddickton, NL; Elizabeth Pilgrim, Goose Bay, NL; as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm from where the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 16th day of March 2016 with Pater Christopher Hewlett officiating. Interment followed in the Apostolic Faith Cemetery in Roddickton. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.

ELLIOTT, SAMUEL

Samuel Elliott Sr. was born July 9th, 1934 to Gordon and Mae (Bessey) Elliott
of Raleigh, NL. He grew up in Raleigh with his sister and 7 brothers until he
came to Port Au Choix looking for the woman of his dreams. He found her and they got married November 30th,1963. They made a home and raised their 2 sons and 2 daughters in Port au Choix. He worked at FPI for 36 years, most of them as a watchman where he fed many of his co workers from the electric frying pan. He was a dedicated family man who provided for his family with kindness and patience and was well respected by many as
they considered him “ the gentle giant”. He deeply loved a game of cards; especially if he was winning! Through all his sickness he always kept a positive attitude but despite his 4 year fight against the dreadful disease he passed away on Sunday, September 13th,2015. He is survived by his wife Christine of nearly 52 years, his sons Sam(jr), Kevin (Sherry-Lynn), his daughters Melita (Bob), Mae (Vince), his 6 grandchildren, Joshua, Allyson, Wyatt, Kaitlin, Skyler and Chayce, his sister Vida( Ross), brothers Reginald (Irene), Weldon (Alma), Garland (Pansy), Max (Judy),Winston (Cindy) and Alvin (Yvonne). Pre- deceased by his father Gordon, mother Mae, sister Selma and brother Wayne. Visitation Was held at the Roman Catholic Church in Port Aux Choix, from which the Funeral Mass was held at 1030am on the 17th of September with Fr. Raj Officiating. Burial followed the Service in the Sandy Cove Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director. 

POWELL, HEDLEY SAMUEL

Passed away peacefully at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony NL. On April 25th, Mr. Hedley S. Powell of Goose Cove in his 83rd year. Hedley leaves to mourn; his wife of 59 years, Mary Ellen Powell, his children Majrie (Wilf), Norm, Phyllis, Judy, Patricia (John),  Olive (Chris), Marina (Mike), Roxanne (Darrell) and Derrick (Bonnie), as well as his siblings Beulah  Parsons, Lydia Roberts, Sadie Parsons, and Don Powell. Grand children Shelly, Christopher, Audrey Sara, Jordan, Denata, Jesse, Alysha, Alexandra, Anika, Adam, Patrick, Andrew, DJ, Johanna, Emily and Samuel, Great Grandchildren Caleb, Clinton, Jesse, Jorja And Oliver. Visitation took place at the Funeral Home in St. Anthony, followed by the funeral service at the Immaculate Conception Church in Goose Cove at 2:00pm on April The 28th with Father Anthony Officiating. Burial followed the service at the goose cove Roman Catholic Cemetery. Funeral Arangments where entrusted to Kerry M.
