CASEY, ROSE MARY

Passed away gracefully in St. John’s, NL on Thursday, November 22, 2023 with her loving family and several close friends at her side. Rose was born on January 12, 1927 in Conche, NL.

She was predeceased by her husband Thomas John (1931 - 1991), parents Joseph and Ellen (Kearney) Hunt; Parents-in-law Peter and Adell (Byrne) Casey; adoptive parents Mary (Hunt) and John Brown and their children Margaret (Elias), Mary Theresa (John), Johnnie and Mick; siblings Adelle Hunt, Margaret (Herbert Bromley), Rita (Leonard Abbott), Jack Hunt (Annie), Jim Hunt (Nell) and Edmond who had passed as a baby, William Hunt (Margaret); brothers-in-law Stephen Casey and Jim Casey; sisters-in-law, Annie Hunt, Evangeline Casey, Margaret Hunt, Anne Casey-Bromley and Mary Casey-Blanchard.

Left to celebrate her life are her children Gordon (Marian Coleman), Terry (Rosina O’Dell), Judy (Jerry Pulchan) and Theresa (Terry Foley). Her grandchildren Andrew (Erica), Michael (Jessica) and Katherine (Luke) Casey; Alexander Pulchan; Marc and Robyn (Nicole) Foley. Her great-grandchildren Jack, Thomas and Noa Casey; Nora and Wren Casey; Alyssa Carew and Colton Foley. Also left to sing her praises are her brothers-in-law Edward Blanchard, Edward Bromley and sister-in-law Loretta Casey and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mom had a large extended family and numerous lifelong friends in Conche, Corner Brook, L’Anse au Loup, Goulds and St. John’s, just to name a few, who will regale her stories for years to come.

A special thanks must be made to her very special friend Joan Woodrow who ensured mom took many shopping trips, played hands of cards and always had an unlimited supply of chocolate chip cookies. Joan read to her, sang her favorite tunes and prayed with her. Our family will always be grateful for Joan’s attention and the unconditional love she showed so unselfishly during her visits to Conche and then to Saint Luke’s Long Term Care Home when mom became a resident in December 2020.

Also special thanks to two of her many special Conche friends Patsy Hunt-McGrath and Alice Simmonds-Flynn and her three unofficially adopted sons Bert Bennett, Pat Pike and Gary Carroll.

Our love and gratitude will always be extended to the staff and residents of Saint Luke’s Home for their kindness, love, compassion and understanding to mom. Many of them from Trinity Square and Inglewood who visited her in her final hours. We were so impacted by their love for her.

Mom also spent time at the Labrador South Long Term Care Health Center located in Forteau, Labrador in 2020. We thank the many workers and visitors who made her time there comfortable during the early restrictions of COVID visiting.

Visitation will take place at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Avenue, St. John’s, November 24, from 2-8 p.m. and at the Sacred Heart Church in Conche on Monday, November 27 from 2-4 and wake service 7pm.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Conche on Tuesday, November 28 at 10:30 a.m., Co-Celebrants Father George Thotra and Father Edward Terry, followed by interment at the Conche Community Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Barrett’s Funeral home, St. John’s and Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony.

“If there is a way to figure out how to cheat at a hand of cards, bake a batch of bread and cook a ‘feed’ of salmon, star in a concert…under the watchful eye of the Good Lord…rest assured…Sweet Rose will find it.”

Though her smile is gone forever and her hand we cannot touch, we still have so many memories of the one we loved so much. Her memory is now our keepsake with which we’ll never part. God has her in good keeping, we have her in our hearts. Sadly Missed, but never forgotten.

Visitation to take place from the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Conche on Monday, November 27, 2023. The funeral will be held at10:30 am on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 with Fr. George officiating. Interment to follow in the new Roman Catholic Cemetery.

ROSE, CARLA ELLEN

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science center in St. Johns NL, surrounded by her loving family, Carla Ellen Rose of Flowers Cove NL in her 38th year. Left to mourn her passing with hearts full of loving and beautiful memories are her Husband- Danny Rose, Daughter- Bella Rose, Parents- Bill and Caroline Lawless, Sisters - Courtney (Darryl) Wells, Cindy (Thomas) Lawless-Coffin, Mother and father in law-  Linda and Elwin Rose, Brother in law - Darryl (Valerie) Rose,Grandparents- Lucy and Paul Lavallee
Nieces and Nephews - April , Alexis , Porsha,  Jayden ,  Dalton, Cayden and Charlotte, Godchildren- Dalton Rose, James Genge and Cayden Lawless-Coffin, her Special -Aunt Gloria (Keith Billard) Lawless. Godparents -Aunt Marina Caines and Uncle Michael Lavallee. Though young herself, she lived to mourn the passing of her grandparents Dorothy and Patrick Mahar, Great grandmother Juanita Walsh
Aunt Anne Way and Uncle Gerald Mahar.  Also left to morn a large number of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and co-workers.  Family would like to send thanks to the staff at Labrador Grenfell Health , and the staff at the ICU and CCU units at the Health Science Center, St John's for their kindness  and compassion for Carla and our family . Family would like to also say thank you to Rev McGonigle as well as everyone who sent messages and kind words, prayers, food, flowers and who fundraised, donated or helped out in anyway. Your kindness will never be forgotten by the Rose and Lawless families. A Memorial Service was held at the Funeral home in St. Anthony on Saturday Feb. 13th at 3pm with Rev. ROSE, VINA GLADYS

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that the family of the late Vina Gladys Rose (nee White) announce her peaceful passing on Sunday, August 16, 2020 at the Strait of Belle Isle Health Center  surrounded by her loving family. After a life time battle with heart disease at the age of 69 she left her earthly life for her heavenly home. Vina’s true love was her family.  She devoted her day to her own family in Flower’s Cove, and on most evenings, she drove to Sandy Cove to visit her family there.  Her family brought her endless joy and happiness, and made her very proud. Vina was an incredibly warm and welcoming person who loved to entertain.  She was the perfect hostess and made it look easy.  Her home was open to everyone and she would make sure you left with a fully belly, a smile on your face and good memories too. Vina is survived by her loving husband Wallace , devoted daughter Candice, son in law, Trevor and precious grandchildren Chloe and Caylee who were the light of her life, sister Evelyn (Eldred), Brother Maitland (Christine), Niece Paulette, Nephew Kerry (Nancy) & great Nephew Blake, sisters-in-law & brothers in law, extended family & a large circle of friends.  She was predeceased by her parents Stephen & Mary Jane White, brother Gayden and parents in law Joseph & Evelyn Rose.  Due to Covid 19 government restrictions, a private family service will be held at the United Church in Flowers Cove on Tuesday, August 18,2020 with Rev. It is with great sadness we announce the sudden Passing of our dear & loving mother Winnie at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 70 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her Children; Perry (Lillian), Lisa(Bob) , Isabella (Chris) & Tiffany (Vern) ; sister Bessie (Stan)& brothers Claude (Donna) & Lou (Emma), sister in law Rachel ; grandchildren: Laura (Corey), Alana, Kyle, Kiana, Dylan, Kaden & Kameron ; great grandson Brody, As well as nieces , nephews, extended family & friends. She was predeceased by her first husband Roland Williams , second husband Maitland Hughes ; parents Richard & Isabella Coates ;brother Curtis. The family extends its deepest gratitude to the residents of Richfell place for being a second family to our mother & for being there for her in the past few months when she needed you all the most.

ROSE, HENRY THOMAS

July 4, 1953 – December 9, 2019

Passed away December 9, 2019 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony surrounded by loving family at the age of 66 years. Henry grew up in St. Carols where he went to school and played until he moved to St. Anthony as a teen. It was there, fishing with his father that he met the love of his life, Verna in Harbour Deep. In 1973 they were wed and blessed with two children. Shortly after the birth of his second child, he began working at the St. Anthony Airport where he stayed for 40 plus years. Through his work at the airport, he came to know and help many people across the province and abroad. He made a lot of friends, and was a friendly and familiar face to those travelling. In his spare time, he loved fishing, hunting, and loved being in his shed, woodworking. He was a talented handyman and carpenter, he frequently did renovations for his children and made lots of patio furniture and other items. His other passion was his grandchildren. He loved to see them flourish in their talents, whether it be playing guitar and singing, or playing hockey. Henry was a talkative and friendly man, he like to torment and was guaranteed to go visit his two children, Corey and Treena every night as well as send both a daily text message. He is forever loved and mourned by, his wife of 46 years, Verna; Son, Corey (Charmaine); Daughter, Treena (Trent); Mother, Margaret; Brother, Wallace (Edith); 3 Grandchildren, Dilan, Alisha, and Caden; Nieces, Teena (Larr), Nikki (Denise); Nephew, Robin (Marcella) and a large circle of family and friends. Henry was predeceased by his father, Isaac; Grandparents, Ernest and Rita Hill, and Thomas and Elizabeth Rose as well as his Aunts and Uncles. Visitation to take place at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony on Tuesday, December 10, 2019 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Deacon Arthur Kinsella officiating. ROSE, HENRY ERIC

It is with tremendous sadness that we, the family of Henry Eric Rose, announce his sudden and tragic passing on April 13th, 2016. Henry was born to Norman and Elizabeth (Betty) Rose on November 20th, 1958. He married Belinda (Genge) and they had two children together, Monica (Tony) and Owen (Trudy). He also leaves to mourn his three grandchildren, Ty, Macon, and Sophie; 4 brothers, 4 sisters and their spouses; Nieces; Nephews, and a large circle of extended family and friends. “Hen” was pre-deceased by parents Norman and Betty Rose. Visitation took place at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony on April 15th, 2016. The funeral took place on Monday, April 18th, 2016 from the Flower Cove United Church with Rev. ROSE, HOWARD

Passed away peacefully on November 8, 2015 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. He was in his 74th year. He leaves to mourn daughters Jackie (Ron) Gallant, Valerie (Richard) Dempster; grandchildren Ashley, Thomas, and Travis; siblings Marion Moores, Rita Davis, Allan (Jesse) Rose, Harvey (June) Rose, Evelyn (Dave) Budgell, Mary Furey, Hazel Simms, Grant (Lena) Rose, Wallace (Vine) Rose, Gloria (Cyril) Kelly, and an extended circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his son Ashley, parents Jospeh and Evelyn (Decker) Rose, and broher Thomas. Visitation was held at the Gospel Hall in Nameless Cove from where the funeral service was held at 3:00pm on Tuesday, November 10, 2015 with pastor Gaius Goff. Internment followed in the Nameless Cove Gospel Hall Cemetery. Funeral services entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Siobhan Mauger funeral director.

ROSE, ELIZABETH (BETTY) JANE BURRY

She passed peacefully away surrounded by her family at the John M. Gray Centre on the 13th day of July 2015. Mrs. Elizabeth (Betty) Rose of Flower’s Cove was in her 92nd year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her nine children Pierce Rose, Rosiland (the late William Carey), Agnes(Sam) Genge, Norman(Brenda) Rose, Barbara(George) Coles, Wayne(Olga) Rose, Daphne(Claude) Genge, Henry Rose, and Dean(Belinda) Rose, her twenty-one Grandchildren, Thirty-Four Great Grandchildren, and Two Great- Great- Grandchildren and many nieces, nephews , two brothers-in-law, and one sister-in-law as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Norman Rose, her twin Brother Pierce Burry, Sisters Mabel Bishop, Olive English, Agnes Burry, her Grandchildren Elizabeth Rose, Baby Boy Rose, Perry Rose, her parents Pierce and Martha Burry, and her Parents-in-law Archibald and Agnes Rose. Cremation had taken place followed by visitation at the United Church in Flower’s Cove followed by the memorial service which was held at 2:00pm on the 19th day of July 2015 with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Inurnment took place in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.
