RICKS, GERALD DUNCAN

Passed away on June 2, 2016 at the age of 81 years. Gerald Ricks was born on September 3, 1934 in Goose Cove to Frances & Darius Ricks. On October 27, 1958, he married Carmel Bromley and together they raised eleven children. Gerald was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gerald had a variety of work experiences in his life. They included logging, fishing, carpentry, construction, and heavy equipment operator. He could turn his hand to anything- I guess we would consider him a “jack of all trades.” Gerald had a unique ability to tell stories about things that happened in his life and the many people he met along life’s journey. In his retirement, Gerald enjoyed spending time in his gardens and ski-doing in winter. He loved driving his truck and spending time on the community wharf. He also loved his “morning meetings” in Edward Reardon’s stage. As well, he always looked forward to visiting his sister, Angela and husband Ron every Sunday morning. In 2003, Gerald met Juanita Powell and for the past 13 years have had a very happy and fulfilled life together. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. He leaves to mourn his Children Nellie, Judy (Cyril), Philomena (Ralph), Joyce, Sharon (Steve), Daphne, Geraldine (Todd), Ross (Melissa), Roy (Treena), Ron (Heather), Robert; Partner Juanita and her children Todd and Marilyn; 19 Grandchildren; 3 Great- Grandchildren; his lovable buddy Wince, and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Carmel, parents Darius & Francis Ricks; Brother Ron; Sisters Eileen and Theresa; Son-in-law Bill; and Grandson Justin. Visitation was held a Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral was held in the Roman Catholic Church in Goose Cove at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 with Fr. Vitus Echedo officiating. Interment followed.
