BRENTON, EILEEN JESSIE

April 4, 1938 - December 24, 2021

Eileen Jessie Cassell was born on April 4, 1938 to Laura and Theophilus Cassell. Also born in this family were four brothers: Pleman (deceased) Frederick, Edmund, Lesley and three sisters: Elizabeth, Joyce and Elva (deceased).Eileen married Job Brenton on November 5, 1952. Together they raised 11 children. Eileen was a stay at home mother until most of her children were grown. Then she worked at the Fish Plant for approximately twenty years. She was a Christian for most of her life, devoted to serving the Lord for at least 60 years. She attended the Apostolic Faith Church at Hooping Harbor and when they relocated to Bide Arm in 1969 she faithfully attended the church there. She was a very soft spoken person and always had a friendly smile. She was not a public or brave person but during one of the last services she attended she rose to her feet and shared her humble testimony.

In September, 2020, she had a fall at her home. Following this, her health slowly declined. On December 24, 2021, she passed peacefully away at the Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony. She was 83 years of age. She was predeceased by her husband, Job, parents, Theophilus and Laura Cassell, daughter, Clara, son-in-law, Tom Hempshall, brother, Pleman, sister, Elva, brother-in-law, Harold, brother in law, Guy Brown, grandsons, Tyson and JJ, and granddaughter, Amber.

She will be sadly missed and remembered by her children Melvin (Christine), Hilda (Delford), Willis (Brenda), Minnie (Michael), Alvin (Marlene), Bruce (Jackie), Larry (Rhonda), Sheila (Darrell), Sherry and Douglas. She also leaves to mourn: son-in-law Gordon Tucker, sister-in-law Shirley and husband Naaman Randell, three brothers: Fred (Bessie) Cassell, Edmund (Evelyn) Cassell, Lesley (Ivy) Cassell, two sisters: Elizabeth (Freeman Compton), and Joyce Brown, 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild plus a large number of relatives and friends.

The funeral will take place at the Bide Arm Apostolic Faith Church on Tuesday, December 28th, 2021 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Christopher Hewlett officiating. Interment to follow.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions visitation and funeral attendees will be by invitation only.

HANCOCK, WILLIS RAYFIELD

Willis Rayfield Hancock.

Willis was born on February 3, 1933 to Gideon and Grace Hancock.
Brother Willis met the love of his life, - Dulcie Blanche Hodge and was married on November 11, 1952 at Roddickton.  They were blessed with six children: Grant, Cora, Randy, Diane, Morgan, and Billy.  After giving his heart to the Lord in 1957 , he faithfully attended Church with his family. Bro. Willis was known for giving an inspiring testimony which vividly showed his excitement  of been saved. Willis was a well-respected man in this community and surrounding communities. He worked with the department of Highways foe 30 years.  He was a very hard worker who worked many long hours at his company - Canada Bay Construction for 32 years.  After he retired from the company, he loved to go for a ride and visit the jobs sites of his employees just to see how things were going and have a chat. In July of 2007 he suffered a stroke that left him somewhat immobile but still he would attend Church whenever he could.  He was admitted to the Curtis Memorial Hospital on January 4, 2017 then on December 20, 2018  he moved to the John Grey Center. Recently  he became ill and was hospitalized until Monday August 10,  2020 around 3 am when he took his heavenly flight to meet his Lord and Master whom he served faithfully for many years. He was predeceased by his Parents – Gideon & Grace Hancock: Wife - Dulcie: Son – Morgan.

The funeral service and visitation was held at the apostolic faith Church in Roddickton NL, on the 13th of August, 2020 with Rev. Christopher Hewlett and Rev. MAY, CARL

September 14, 1937 - December 4, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Carl May announce his passing at Western Memorial Regional Hospital on Tuesday morning, December 4, 2018 at the age of 81 years. Carl was born in Point Rosie, Fortune Bay, NL on September 14, 1937.  He met Ursula Hopkins from Roddickton in St. John’s and they were married at Botwood, NL on November 11, 1960.  Carl loved spending time with family and friends.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, berry picking, boating and was a loyal Montreal Canadiens fan.  He was a kind, devoted and loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, great grandfather and friend.  Left to mourn with fond and loving memories is his loving wife, Ursula of 58 years, children Pauline Bartlett (Maurice) St. Anthony, NL; Paul May (Betty) Humber Valley Resort, NL; Lynn Hunt (Randy) Port au Port, NL; Eugene May (Madonna) Pasadena, NL; Richard May Bird Cove, NL; and Todd May (Cindy) St. Thomas, ON.  Grandchildren Tennelle (Noland); Michael; Charmayne (David); Laura (Andrew); Beverley; Jennifer (Darren); Randall (Keshia); Andrew; Hannah; Matt and Erin.  Great Grandchildren; Ross James; Emma; Claire and Roman; his brother Sidney May (Lynn), New Minas, NS and sister Joyce Snow (Tony) Wing’s Point, NL.  Predeceased by his parents, Morgan and Lucy May; his sister Emily; his brothers Winston, Morgan, Eugene and Harvey; and great grandson Ryan. Also loved by Beverley Ereaut and many other family and friends. KENNEDY, JOHN

Passed away August 7th, 2018 at the age of 89 years. John Kennedy was born in Flowers Cove, NL on February 25th, 1929. John was the son of Uncle Mike (Nicholas) and Mary Ann Kennedy (Young). John (Jack as he was lovingly known) was placed in the Grenfell Orphanage in St. Anthony at the age of 7 years old where he was raised and educated until he was 17 years of age. Upon leaving the Orphanage he travelled by dog sled team to Main Brook where he was employed by Bowaters as a Cookee initially but was later hired as a lumberjack. He moved to Roddickton where he continued his career as a woodsman. Uncle Mike, John’s father was residing in Roddickton at that time and was operating a general store. Shortly after moving to Roddickton he met the love of his life Meta Cassell. They were married February 28th, 1952. He set up his own business John Kennedy & Sons for which he was the owner & operator for 30 years. Together with his loving wife they raised a family of 8 children.  After closing his business John & Meta moved to Ontario where he worked in the logging industry for ten years. Upon retiring they moved back to Roddickton where they lived a very contented, loving and happy life together until the morning of August 7th, 2018. John loved and served the Lord for the majority of his life. He had an ear for music and sang and played the violin as part of the Apostolic Faith Mission in Roddickton for many years. He had a heart for others and everyone he met was a friend. He opened his home and his heart to everyone. He judged no one and lived only to serve others. When you saw him, he would greet you with his smile and a wave of his hand. John was a brilliant man with an avid love of reading. He was a hard-working man who loved his family dearly. John passed peacefully away into the presence of the Lord with his wife and some members of his large family by his side. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Meta and 7 of their children. 24 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.  He leaves behind a legacy of music, faith, love and hope. He is predeceased by his parents, his daughter Marjorie and great-grandson Nicholas. Visitation was held from he Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral was held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Chris Hewlett officiating. Interment followed. WILCOX, RAYMOND

Passed away on April 26th, 2018 from St. Claire’s Mercy Hospital in St. Johns at the age of 67 years. He leaves to cherish memories, his Mother, Viola Wilcox; Common Law Spouse, Diane Jenkins; Sons, Roddick (Jennifer) Wilcox, Roger Wilcox (Samantha Canning), Tadd Jenkins (Felicia Cull); Daughters, Trena Jenkins (Alvin Bennett), Tina Jenkins, Lisa Wilcox, Connie Wilcox, Karen Brenton; Brothers, Winston (Judy( Wilcox, Leander Wilcox; Sisters, Priscilla (Michael) Magee, Ruby (Darby) Parsons, Belinda (Kirby) Newman; Angela (Hank) Dean; 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and a large circle of relatives and friends. Raymond was predeceased by his son, Rene Jenkins, and father, Harvey John Wilcox. POLLARD, MARTHA

Passed away on February 14th, 2018 at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony at the age of 98 years. She leaves to mourn many special friends including Emma and John Reardon, Tracey (Darren), Jamie (Tina), Elvis and Tara Clements; the Canning Family and the Pollard Family. Mrs. Pollard was predeceased by her husband’s George Tucker and Isaac Pollard; Parents John and Mary Clarke; Brother Joe Clarke; and Sisters Mary Parsons and Beatrice Pilgrim. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in Roddickton from where the funeral took place on Saturday, February 17th, 2018 with Rev. Chris Hewlett Officiating. RANDELL, LILY JANE

RANDELL, Lily Jane, born on February 06, 1924 into the family of Jonathan and Naomi Newman. Others born to the family Daniel, deceased, William Deceased, Deliah Pittman, Deceased and Winnie Randell. Lily met her husband Manuel Randell at Little Harbor Deep, they were married on October 27, 1947 To this union were born three children Fred, Alfreda twins and Celie. Manuel and Lily lived in the small fishing village of Little Harbor Deep until the resettlement program 1964 at which time the family relocated to Englee, NL. Lily worked at the local Fish Plant until her retirement in 1989. Lily was an excellent seamstress and spent countless hours sewing for many people in the area. She would make a garment from a picture from a catalog, no patterns necessary she spent many of her retirement years knitting slippers, socks , sweaters and some of the nicest baby outfits ever seen. In 1990 Manuel and Lily moved to Roddickton, to be closer to their family. After Manuel's passing, September 19, 2001 Lily lived in her own   home until late May of this year at which time, after suffering from a fall decided to move into long term care at the Seniors home at Roddickton, where she resided until October when she was hospitalized at St. Anthony until her passing on November 23, 2016 when she went to be with her Lord, her dream come true. Lily truly loved the lord and dedicated her life to him at the young age of 9 years. She attended church every Sunday, no matter what the weather, until last winter when her strength began to fail. By her passing, she leaves to cherish her memories, Son Fred (Melina) Englee, Daughter Alfreda (Ivan Cassell)  Steady Brook, Daughter Celie Parsons, Roddickton, Sister Winnie Randell and 8 grandchildren, 14 Great Grandchildren and 4 Great, great grandchildren and a large number of relatives and friends.Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton, from which the burial was held at 2:00pm on November 27th, with Rev. CANNING, HARRISON STENFIELD GEORGE

Passed away at the Health Science Center in St. Johns on September 15, 2016 at the age of 70 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his wife Louise; Son Perry (Nancy); Daughters Geraldine (Ron), Lee-Ann (Christopher); brothers Wilson (Lillian), Martin (Susie), Earl (Hazel); sisters Phyllis, Pearl (Calvin), Madonna, Joan; Grandchildren Jonathan, Ryan, Jake, and Cody as well as many other relatives and friends. PILGRIM, BEATRICE VIOLET

Passed away at the White Bay Health Centre in Roddickton on July 25, 2016 at the age of 73 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Earl Pilgrim; Sons Caesar (Barbara) Pilgrim, Baine (Nancy) Pilgrim, Norman (Marsha) Pilgrim; Daughter Nadine (Ian) Ellsworth; Brothers Allan (Olive) Compton, Joe (Christine) Compton, Ross (Carrie) Compton; Sisters Louise Simms, Daisy (Ross) Decker, Anne (Grand) Hancock, nine Grandchildren, three great-grandchildren as well as a large circle of many other relatives and friends. Parsons, Alwood

Alwood Andrew (George) Parsons was born at St. Anthony to Jessie and Annie Parsons Jonuary 21st, 1950. Also born to that family were Rueben, deceased, Marthda, deceased, Ross, deceased, Robert, Gladys, and Albert. Albert is twin brother to Alwood. 

Alwood grew up in Roddickton, where he graduated high school/ He was joined in marriage to Celie Randell on July 24th, 1973. To this union was born two children, Deanne and Shane. Alwood was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Alwood took on many different types of employment. He worked as a lumber grader with Canada Bay Lumber Co., as a forestry worker and a teacher. He fished with this brothers, Robert and Albert for approximately 35 years. He was also a fireman for 25 years.

He was a boat builder, carpenter, sports fan, Red Wings fan, dart player, and a cook extraordinaire! Alwood was take from this life tragically on the 21st of September, 2015 in his 65th year. he will be greatly missed by his wife Celie Parsons, Children Deanne (Shane), Shane (Nathalie), Mother-in-law Lily, Brothers Robert (Harriet), Albert (Lavinia), Sister Gladys (Eric), Granddaughters Alexis, Shelby; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral services were held at 2:00pm on Sunday September 27th, 2015 with Rev. Christopher Hewlett officiating.
