RANDELL, NORMAN HEDLEY

January 9,1934 - January 18, 2025

Passed peacefully away at the Health Science Centre in St. John’s surrounded by his family members.

Proceeded by his parents, Lucy and Mark Randell; His wife, Dora Randell , His sons : Graham, Bedford, and Roger, Sisters: Stella Compton, Cassie Weir, Brothers: Darius (Roy) Randell, Alfred Tucker, Grandson: Jason Noonan

Norman grew up in Williamsport White Bay and later lived in Englee and Roddickton and lived the remainder of his life in St. John’s. He was a carpenter by trade, and built many houses and buildings throughout his lifetime. He worked in the Lumber Camp he was also a fisherman and worked in the Woods . He was a store owner who very generously open up his store in the early morning for customers whether they had money or not. He enjoyed singing hymns and playing the mouth organ. He enjoyed moose hunting right up in his late eighties. He was very spiritual and his greatest love was reading the Bible and reciting Bible verses. He loved having family prayers together.

Leaving to mourn his children; Glenna , Mark(Marie), Charia (Pierre), Lucy(Roger), Marcel, Grandchildren; Dawn(Corey), Jocelyn, Charlene(Jamie), Peter , Roger(Jaz), Kaleigh, Jordan , Also brother Wilbert Randell(Margret) and Sterling Randell(Jackie), Sister in law: Etta Mae (Eugene),, Annie May and Bessie, Brother in Law: Lee(Loretta), John, Lloyd, Several Great and Great Great Children and numerous amount of Nieces and Nephews., Special nephew Don Randell.

Visitations will be held 1 pm to 5pm on Friday 24th, 2025 at the Bide Arm Apostolic Faith Church, The funeral Service will be held from the church at 10:30 am on Saturday 25th 2025.

Internment to follow at the Apostolic cemetery in Roddickton

RANDELL, BOYCE JUNIOR

September 4, 1950 - December 9, 2022

Boyce was born on September 4th, 1950 in Hooping Harbour to Thomas and Florence Randell. He was the last of six children with two sisters and 3 brothers: the late Ethel Reid (Ludwick), the late Spurgeon (the late Marie), Ruby Randell (the late Freeman), Claude (Jean), Beaton (Shirley) as well as half-sister, the late Winnie Cassell.

He married Alma Elisabeth Cassell on January 30, 1969 in Hooping Harbour. Born to this union was six children. Five Daughters; Glennis Randell (Andre Du Plessis), Phyllis Patey (Scott), Mavis Canning (Brian), Mona Randell (Todd), Shirley Gillard (Howard) as well as son Jeffrey (Vicki Lemay). He also has 16 Grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 29 nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Boyce taught in school for two winters in Williamsport. He attended college in Stephenville and then worked for Arthur Locke of Roddickton installing furnaces. He moved into the fishing industry and worked various jobs and positions in plants around the island. This job also included a trip to Oslo, Norway where he dismantled fish processing equipment, prepared it for shipping and put it back together when it arrived in NL.

When he left the fishing industry he started B.J. Randell and Son. A self employed business that serviced heating, air conditioning and refrigeration, that he ran successfully for many years, After retiring his business he worked in Kitchener, ON for a short time before moving on to work at Wilderness North, based out of Thunder Bay. He worked there for 18 years at a fishing resort that he often referred to as a working vacation.

He prayed and accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on February 21, 1972 along with his wife, Alma. He devoted much of his life outside of work to the Apostolic Faith work in Englee. He was a choir director for many years, played in the music department, volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, helped build a new church and took on many carpenter projects around the church.

He was known as a Jack of all trades, and lent a helping hand to many friends and family around him. He spent much time in recent years doing whatever he could to help his two brothers (Spurgeon and Claude) living next door, and his sister Ruby down the road.

His love of laughter and fun, being a jokester and his infectious grin was well known around his community. A community that he loved and was proud of. He loved being involved and helping to make it a great place to live.

He had some health issues in past years that he faced with strength and courage. He was back on his feet as soon as possible to face his next challenge head on.

On Saturday, December 3, 2022 his family called the ambulance, as he had been struggling with sickness for the past week. He was transported to St. Anthony Hospital and on Tuesday, December 4, 2022 he was airlifted to Western Memorial Hospital in Corner Brook. He fought to the end and on Friday, December 9th, 2022 at 1:26 pm, he passed peacefully away surrounded by family as they sang the last refrain of “Because He Lives”. When the minister whispered last amen, he took his heavenly flight.

Visitation will take place from the Apostolic Faith Church beginning the evening of Wednesday, December 14, 2022 with the family service to take place on Thursday, December 15, 2022 from 7-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday, December 16, 2022 at 11:00 am with Pastor Kirby Hewlett officiating. Interment to follow.

RANDELL, WOODLEY MARK

Woodley Mark Randell was born in Hooping Harbour. He was one of six children born to Charlie & Beatrice Randell. He grew up like many of his time, playing in the beaches, and on the wharves, but also having to help his family, down in the stage and out in the fishing boat.

In 1961, Woodley married Janet Cassell and in 1969 resettled to Bide Arm with a growing family of his own.

Woodley came to be very well known in the Bide Arm area, as he operated the local Garage Business, but he was a man of many talents; he was a mechanic, heavy equipment operator, hunter, fisherman, carpenter, welder, a so-called “Jack of All Trades”. He enjoyed cod fishing, moose & turr hunting, rabbit catching, ski-doo riding, and especially ice fishing. He will be remembered as a humble, honest, hard-working man who loved his family.  He was a father, a grandfather, a brother, a cousin, a friend and most certainly, he was a faithful & devoted servant of God.

Woodley Mark Randell passed into the presence of the Lord on May 6th, 2022 at John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony at the age of 83 years. 

He will be forever missed by his 6  loving children, Pansy Randell, Hubert (Michelle), Dennis (Paula), Rick (Gail), Randy (Phyllis), Paula (Corwin).  19 Grandchildren:  Dana (Kaleigh), Jeffery (Crystal), Jeremy, Joanne, Jessica, Selena, Owen, Ryder, Chase, Joey, Dustin, Nathan, Natalia, Nadia, Blake, Dominic, Brook, Mila & Melina. 9 Great Grandchildren. Jordyn, Beck, Summer, Chance, Kinsley, Cooper, Clara, Asia, & Bella. His Sisters: Della Cassell (Rene), Betty Denney (Ben). Sister-in-law: Winnie Randell.  As well as a large circle of close friends & relatives.

Woodley is predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Janet (nee: Cassell), his parents, his brother Winston Randell and Sisters Audrey Pollard & Alma Patey.

 Funeral services were held at Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm on Monday, May 9th, 2022 at 2:00 pm. Interment followed in the Apostolic Faith Cemetery in Bide Arm. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey, Funeral Director.

RANDELL, MATTHEW

February 10, 1956 – December 21, 2021

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Mathew Randell on December 21, 2021. Matt was born on February 10, 1956. He is predeceased by his father Samuel Randell, his mother Amy Randell, and sister Ruby Dredge of Black Duck Cove. He leaves behind his brother Leslie Randell of Roddickton, his brother in law Jacob Dredge, his nephews Tyson Dredge (Josephine) and Trevor Dredge, his great nephew Reed and numerous cousins.

After finishing high school, Matt did a carpentry course at trade school, subsequently travelling to Alberta for work. After a short duration of working in Alberta, Matt returned home, later moving to Ontario where he worked as a cabinet builder. Upon his return from Ontario, Matt commenced work with a survey crew, working on the highways. This job led to Matt’s permanent employment of 24 years with the Department of Highways. He spent most of those years working out of the Plum Point and Flower’s Cove depots. During his time in the Straits, Matt lived with his sister Ruby, brother in law Jacob and their family.

One of Matthew’s loves was working in his workshop, creating a variety of wood crafted items. He was always ready to lend a hand to those who required help or wanted items made. Matt loved all types of tools, in fact his workshop is overfilled with tools that were never opened. Matt was a very quiet and unassuming man, often seen on a warm summer’s day, sitting on the bench by his workshop and looking out at the neighborhood activities.

Shortly after his retirement, in 2020, Mathew was diagnosed with Cancer and succumbed to the disease. Matt will be missed by his family, friends, and coworkers.

Private visitation times and dates to be announced. The funeral service will take place from the Roddickton United Church on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. RANDELL, IDA

Passed peacefully away at Roddickton hospital on June 21st 2021 at the age of 87. Ida was born on Dec 23rd 1933 to William and Annie Randell in Williamsport NL. Her Mom passed away when Ida was an infant and she then went and lived and was raised by Esau and Ester Randell as their own child along with Wesley and Dan Randell. She married Cecil Randell on Nov. 10th 1952 and they had five children; Barbara, Garry, Wayne, Jerry and Barry. Keith was born to Barbara and Cecil and Ida raised them as their own. Cecil and Ida resettled their family form Williamsport in 1969 to Bide Arm for two years and then to Englee in 1971 where they built their home and raised their family. Ida was the prayer warrior of their family and was a devoted Christian all her life. she work on a whale plant in Williamsport and the Fish Pant after Moving to Englee. She was a Wonderful quilt maker and put her hands to almost anything. she was an active member of the Pentecostal Church in Englee till sickness kept her form attending. Left to mourn her passing are her children Barbara Randell, Garry Randell (Brenda), Wayne Randell (Martene), Jerry Randell, Barry Randell (Kathy), Keith Randell (Nadine), Grandchildren Todd (Connie), Terry (Lindsey), Toby (Tylee), Melissa, Nicholas, Tiffany, Colby, Charlee; Great-grandchildren, Ava, Keegan, Tianna, TJ, Cali, Leah, as well as her sister, Elvie (Nelson) Fillier and Brothers, Dan and Naaman (Eileen). She is predeceased by her husband, Cecil Randell. Visitation will be held at the Pentecostal Church in Englee on the 25th of June 2021, with the service being held at 2:00pm the same day, officiated by Pastor Strickland. Burial will follow the service at the Pentecostal Church Community Cemetery in Englee. Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to Kerry M. July 12, 1944 - March 21, 2021

Patsy Randell passed peacefully surrounded by family on March 21, 2021. Born on July 12, 1944 in St. Anthony, NL. She was a resident of Bide Arm. She was a Christian woman all her life, attended church faithfully, was a choir member and Sunday school teacher. She was well known in her community and surrounding communities. A loving friend to everyone and was loved by all. She was always there to help everyone. If she couldn’t visit she would call. She was the people’s person and will be sadly missed by many. She was incredibly proud of children, her 8 grandchildren 9 Great Grandchildren, numerous cherished nieces, nephews and cousins. She loved her family and was always there for them. She took care of her family until her passing. Her concern was not to have her family worry about her. Patsy was best known for reaching out to people, not only in their time of need but all the time. That was her passion and her mission in life.

She is survived by husband Frank Randell and her 4 children; Bobby Randell, Golda Cassell & Kaye Randell, Todd (Mona) Randell; Grandchildren; Shelley, Kelsea, Colby, Morgan, Tyson, Ashley, Adam and Bailey; Great Grandchildren, Joshua, Hannah, Jaxon, Jayce, Harley, Curtis, Kaci, Rylee and Brianna. She is also survived by four sisters and two brothers; Sisters, Juanita Randell, Iris (Robert) Keefe, Katie (Clarence) Hancock, Verna Reid; Brothers, Gideon Newman and Wyatt Newman; Special Sister Kimmie, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Maxwell and Gladys Newman Predeceased by son Glenn Randell, Dec 3, 1976.

The funeral service is to take place from the Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Canning officiating. Beatrice Randell, at the age of 90 years passed away peacefully at the John M Grey Center, St. Anthony, NL She will be forever missed by her Husband Raymond of 70 years, Children Maxine {Steve}, Linda {Don}, Bernetta, Ruth {Noel}, Christine {Melvin}, Gloria, Ellen {Paul}, A large number of grandchildren,great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Her sisters Ida and Elvie {Nelson}. Brother Naaman {Eileen}. Beatrice is predeceased by her Mother Annie and father William, sons Scott and James, son in-laws Robert and Manuel, sisters Elsie and Charlotte, brother Jerry, and two great grandsons. Beatrice will be sadly missed by her many family members and a large circle of friends. The private funeral service will take place on Thursday, September 10, 2020 at 2:00 pm from the United Church in Englee with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. RANDELL, MANUEL THOMAS

Manuel Thomas Randell was the son of Christopher and Jenneth Randell. He was born at Hooping Harbour on December 1st, 1952. the family resettled to Bide Arm in 1969. After resettlement during his young years, Manuel Moved to St. John’s where he worked at a metal fabrication shop. in 1974 Manuel became a dad for the first time when his daughter Beverley Lane was born Beverley lives in fort MacMurray and could not be here today due to Covid-19 Restrictions. in 1978 Manuel moved back to Bide Arm, sometime after he went fishing on the Ronald and Doreen, with well known local fisherman Mr. Herbert Pittman, it was around this time that Manuel Started dating Gloria Randell of Englee. During their 39 years together, Manuel and Gloria Raised a family of one daughter Robyn Randell and one son Lucas Randell. when his employment with Mr. Pittman ended, Manuel partnered with Eddie and Terry Randell to build their own boat. they fished together for some time and Manuel left the fishing industry with the start of the Cod moratorium in 1992.

in 2000 he began working as a welder at Marine Service Center in Englee, he continued in the employment of Mr. Hubert Randell until he became ill in June of 2019 while working at the Wabash airport.

Manuel’s health continued to deteriorate and on July 3rd of 2020 he was admitted to Charles S. Curtis Memorial hospital at St. Anthony. he passed peacefully away at 12:30 am on Saturday July 11th, 2020 surrounded by his family.

the visitation and funeral service for Manuel was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm on July 13th, 2020 with pastor Howard Canning officiating, burial followed in the community cemetery. RANDELL, ELLWOOD RALPH

September 16, 1943 – October 13, 2019

It is with heavy hearts that the Randell family announce the peaceful passing of beloved husband and father Ellwood Randell on October 13, 2019 at the John M. Gray Centre in St. Anthony at the age of 76. He is remembered with great love by his family, including his wife, Juanita (nee: Newman) of 53 years; children Judy (Brad), Janice (Marshall), Vaden (Cynthia), Tony (Cheryl); Grandchildren Brianna (Paul), Brandon (Kayla), Brady (Marissa), Cameron and Nicholas; Great Grandchildren Blair, Evan, Kyle; Predeceased by parents Jesse and Rowena and his sister, Olive; Brothers, Ross (Marion), Paul (Christine), Jesse (Ruth), Austin (Jean), Lloyd (Tamer) and a large circle of relatives, nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation will take place at the Apostolic Faith Church in Bide Arm on Wednesday, October 16th, from 2-4 pm, as well as 7-9 pm. A celebration of Ellwood’s life and faith will take place from there on Thursday, October 17th at 2 pm with Pastor Howard Canning officiating, joined by Pastor Rene Cassell sharing the Word. Interment will follow at the Apostolic Faith Cemetery in Bide Arm. In Ellwood’s memory, donations may be made to Alzheimer Society NL. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Kerry M. RANDELL, PASTOR FREDERICK THOMAS

October 28, 1948 – July 19, 2019

Pastor Fred Randell was born to the late Manuel and Lily Randell on October 28, 1948. He had two sisters, his twin Alfreda and his younger sister Celie. Fred married Melina Wilcox on December 29, 1967. To this union was born three children. Robert, Bruce and Barry. Fred was a wonderful husband, father and Grandfather and was loved by all who knew him. As a young lad, Fred was employed at the local Fish Processing Plant at Englee. A carpenter with the School Board and for 19 years he was an Employee with A.A. Decker Ltd. At a young age, Fred gave his life to God and from that time on he was a faithful servant of the Gospel. He entered the ministry and served faithfully as a Pastor for 25 years, after which, he retired and moved back to his hometown of Englee. Fred was well known to all and continued to help in the ministry whenever he could, until his struggle with cancer prohibited him from doing so. On July 19, 2019 Pastor Fred passed peacefully away and took his heavenly flight to the rewards that awaited him. He leaves behind his loving wife Melina, three Sons, Robert (Lisa), Bruce (Ruby) and Barry (Danielle) Sisters Alfreda (Ivan Cassell) Celie (Alwood Parsons Deceased.) Six Grandchildren, four Great Grandchildren and a large circle of relatives and friends. Fred will always be remembered for his beautiful smile and his kind words to all who knew him. Visitation will be at the Apostolic Faith Church, Englee on Sunday from 2-5 P.M and from 7 to 9. P.M. The Funeral services will be held at the Apostolic Faith Church, Englee at 2:00 P.M. On Monday, July 22, 2019. Interment to follow at the Apostolic Faith Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the immediate family.
