John (Uncle Jack) was born on August 3, 1924 to his parents, Charles and Rhoda Russell in Georges Cove, Labrador. As a young man, he moved to Main Brook where he made a living with Bowaters and fell in love with Kathleen Saunders. The two married in 1934 and went on to welcome seven children into the world. Uncle Jack’s work ethic and desire to provide for his family led him to pursue a lifelong career in the fishery. He returned to Labrador every summer with his family for the fishing season until the moratorium in 1992. A devoted father and grandfather, Uncle Jack enjoyed being surrounded by his grandchildren, especially those who grew up alongside of him. Uncle Jack was a very faithful man of God, he lived his faith and was very active in church until he could no longer attend. He passed away peacefully and went home to be with the Lord, whom he loved on July 21, 2021 at the age of 96 years.

He leaves to mourn his Sons, Gary (Elsie), Robert (Tanya), Bradley (Erin); Daughters, Jillian (Rex), Andrea (Perry), Maxine (William); Grandchildren, Darryl, Chris, Craig, Maria, Christa, Aaron, Amy, Justin, Erica, Johnathan, Jordan, Joshua, Jacob, Katelynn, Jackson; Brother-in-law, William Saunders, as well as a large number of greatgrandchildren, extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his Wife, Kathleen; Son, Eric Russell; Grandson, Ryan Russell; and his parents, Charles and Rhoda Russell.

Visitation will be held this evening at the Pentecostal Church in Main Brook with the funeral service being held at 2:00pm on Friday July 23, 2021 with Pastor Skinner officiating. Interment to follow. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey, Funeral Director.

MORRIS, MADELINE VIVIAN

Madeline passed away peacefully surrounded by her loved ones on Monday April 26th 2021 at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony. She was born and raised in Main brook. Madeline moved to Labrador City with her Husband Alvon and 3 children in 1975. she was a Christian woman and attended her church faithfully. she loved people and people loved her. greeting and meeting people with “How are you My Darling” or “My loved” was just her way. “a kind word and a friendly smile goes a long way” she would say. her family was number one in her life! Madeline was survived by her husbands Alvon, and her three children Darren Morris, Tony Morris and Lisa Burton (Trent), 5 grandchildren Joshua, Jonathan, Rowan, Caleb and Aidan. as well as her only brother Bob Gaulton (Doris), Nephew Dion Gaulton (Sonia), Niece Debbie MacDonald (John). as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

Visitation and funeral service was held at the Pentecostal church in Main Brook on Saturday May 1st at 2:00pm with Pastor Reginald Skinner officiating. burial followed the service in the church community cemetery. PILGRIM, ALMA

Alma Keziah Pilgrim was born to Walter and Matilda Fillier (nee Lane)  on June 10, 1924 and passed peacefully away into the presence of the Lord on October 24, 2020 at Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony. Alma had seven other siblings, three brothers: Ralph, Kenneth and Jerry-- four sisters: Bessie, Sylvia, Ella and Viola. Alma was a lovely woman who loved and served the Lord faithfully. She was a great Mom and a great worker, very caring, tender-hearted and lovingly devoted to her family. Alma was also a very gentle and kind-hearted person and was well loved by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn: Daughter:  Lydia, Sons: Wilson (Rita),   David,   Jeffrey (Rhonda) , Son in law: John Penny (Betty), Stepsons: Hayward  (Louise), Wayne (Lee Ann), Stepdaughter: Joy Kelloway, Brother: Jerry and Sisters: Viola & Ella, A number of Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, A number of Step Grandchildren and Step Great Grandchildren, Also, A large circle of Family and Friends. Alma is predeceased by: First husband: Silas Fillier (Father of Lydia, Patsy, Norman and Wilson), Second husband: David Coates (Father of David and Jeffrey), Third husband: Albert Pilgrim (Father of her step children, Hayward, Wayne and Joy). She is also predeceased by: Son:  Norman (known as Brud), Daughter:  Patsy, Son in law: Norman Eddison, Two brothers: Ralph and Kenneth, Two sisters: Bessie and Sylvia. The Visitation and Funeral service was Held at the Pentecostal Church in Main Brook on the 27th of October 2020 at 2:00pm with Pastor Skinner Officiating. Burial followed in the Community Cemetery. OLLERHEAD, ROY

November 30, 1944 – July 3, 2019

Passed away July 3, 2019 at the age of 74 years. Roy leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his daughter, Elizabeth (Derrick); Granddaughter, Shawna; Grandson, Matthew; Sisters, Olive (Francis), Isabella (Leander), Irene (Fred); Brother, Raymond (Marlene), as well as a large circle of Nieces, Nephews, extended family and friends. Visitation was held from the Bethel Pentecostal Assembly in Main Brook from where the funeral was held on Sunday, July 7, 2019 with Pastor Reginald Skinner officiating. Interment followed in the Pentecostal Cemetery in Main Brook. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey Funeral Director.

COOMBS, LESLIE GEORGE

September 7, 1949 – October 26, 2018


Passed away October 26th, 2018 from the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 89 years. Leslie George Coombs was the youngest son of Morgan and Rosanna Coombs of Pond Cove. Leslie had one sister, Elizabeth, and four brothers: William, Nelson, Adam, and Benjamin. As a young man he spent most of his time working in and around the woods, both in camps and logging boats. In 1966, he met the love of his life, Inga Mitchelmore, and was married in June of 1967. Leslie leave to mourn his loving wife Inga, his oldest son Todd, daughter-in-law Gail, two loving granddaughters Morgan and Megan, and youngest son Leander, daughter-in-law Laiheang, loving grandson William and his stepson Dean Mitchelmore as well as a large circle of family and friends. Visitation was held from the Pentecostal Church in Main Brook from where the funeral took place on Thursday. November 1, 2018 with Pastor Skinner officiating. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton.

RICE, RAYMOND ADOLPHUS

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 7th day of November 2015, Mr. Raymond A. Rice of Main Brook was in his 81st year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memoires his Sons Clifford, Leonard, and Morgan, Daughters Lana, Lisa, Trena, and Phyllis, Brother Gorden, Sister Hazel, Twelve Grandchildren, Four Great Grandchildren as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his Wife Eliza, Parents Adolphus & Celia Rice, Sister Shirley. Visitation was held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in Main Brook after which the funeral service was held on Tuesday November 10, 2015 at 2:00pm with Pastor Reginald Skinner officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.
