PATEY, PEARL HAZEL

September 28, 1931 - March 30, 2024

With sadness the family of the late Pearl Hazel Patey announce her passing at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on Saturday, March 30, 2024 at the age of 92.

Pearl was born September 28, 1931 to Albert and Julia Elms in Griquet, NL. She married James W. Patey on December 8, 1956. She was a religious person who loved her family. She enjoyed picking berries, growing vegetables next to her house, having home cooked meals, and liked keeping the wood furnace going when needed.

She knew all her family’s birthdays, kept up on politics and was interested in the Royal Family. She liked NTV News and VOCM Open Line with Paddy Daley.

Pearl leaves to mourn her Sons: Kevin, Kenneth, Martin (Joan), Barry (Angie); Daughter: Sheila Willcott (Craig); Grandchildren: Amy, Abigail, Braden, Kayla (Justin); Sister-in-law: Ivy Lewis; Nephews, Nieces, and their families.

She is predeceased by her Husband: James Patey; Sisters: Olive Feaster, Jessie Rideout; Brothers: Gus and Ralph Elms; and Parents: Albert and Julia Elms.

The family would like to send a special thanks to the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital ICU and ward staff.

Public Visitation will take place from Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony on Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 1:30-3:00 pm. A private memorial service will follow from 3-4 pm with Carol Roberts and Minnie Morris officiating.

MILLEY, PEARL

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Phyllis Chatfield Pearl Milley , age 86, at the John M.Gray Centre, St. Anthony on January 10th, 2023

She is predeceased by her parents, Kenneth and Mae Taylor,sister Maud (Don)Burry, brothers Edmund and Lemuel Taylor, daughter-in-law Dale Hedderson.

Left to celebrate her life with many happy memories are her loving husband of 67 years, Carl;her children Lynette( Derek) Saunders, Donald(Leona and her children)Milley, Gregory( Judy) Milley, grandsons ;Curtis(Sarah) Saunders, Kyle ( Jessica),Kirk( Christina)and Scott Milley,granddaughter ;Nancy( Michael)Thomson, great granddaughters;Madeline and Rachel Saunders,sister ;Fayne(Joe) Buggy,brother; Glen( Barbara) Taylor, sister -in -law Millicent Taylor,also extended family members and many friends.

Pearl was born and grew up in Raleigh, Nl. After completing high school , she attended Teacher’s College in St. John’s and taught school in Raleigh and Great Brehat for 2 years. She married Carl , the love of her life, at the age of 19 and they made their home in St. Anthony. The focus of her life then shifted to being a full time homemaker, a devoted wife to Carl and a loving mother to their three children.

As time went by , Pearl returned to the workplace and spent many years teaching Sewing and Home Management at the Vocational School in St. Anthony, and later as a bank teller at Scotiabank, until her retirement at age 60.

Pearl was an excellent cook and baker and made sure nobody had an empty stomach. She loved having her grandchildren visit and would provide endless supplies of chocolate chip cookies and cinnamon rolls.She was a tailor by name (Taylor)and by trade. A skilled seamstress, she was very well known in the area and much sought after for sewing wedding attire , particularly bridesmaid dresses and wedding gowns.She made all her own clothes,was ahead of her time in style and fashion, and always put effort into looking her best. Pearl had a quick wit and sense of humour and liked nothing better than hearing ( or telling ) a good joke.Laughter and fun came easy to her.

Pearl dearly loved her greenhouse and garden and was happiest as she would say “when I’m up to my eyes in dirt” Along with Carl, they cultivated beautiful flowers and an abundance of vegetables, which were shared generously with friends and neighbours. She also loved berrypicking, and spending time at the cabin down the bay.

Pearl’s kindness, loving heart ,generosity and devotion to her family will be remembered and cherished by us all forever.

The family would like to thank the staff at the John M.Gray Centre who took such good care of Pearl over the past year and a half.

Visitation to take place at Kerry M.Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony from 7-9PM on Thursday, January 12th and from 2-4PM and

7-9 PM on Friday,January 13th,2023.The funeral service will take place at 11:00AM on Saturday, January 14th at the St. Anthony United Church with Major Anthony Stokes and Major Beverly Dart- Stokes officiating. Interment to follow.

Donations in her memory may be made to St. Anthony United Church.

Passed away April 2, 2022 at the Flowers Cove Health Center at the age of 85 years.

ANDERSON, PEARL STELLA

February 1, 1932 – February 20, 2019
Passed peacefully away on February 20, 2019 at The John M. Gray Centre, in the presence of family, Pearl Anderson (nee Carpenter) of St. Anthony, in her 87th year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories her children Jim (Ann), Audrey (Tabi), and Dwight; grandchildren Amy (Gerry), Terri (Ian), Khatija, and Yasmin; great-grandson Reece; sister and best friend Grace Davis (Wallace); brother Bill Carpenter (Ruby); and other relatives and friends. Predeceased by husband Alfred, parents William and Dorothy Carpenter, and daughter-in-law Judy. A special thank you to the staff at The John M. Gray Centre for their care over the years. ROPSON, PEARL ANITA

Passed away May 4th, 2018 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 84 years. KEEFE, PEARL MAE

Passed away at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on August 6th, 2016 at the age of 92 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her sons Wesley (Marilyn) Keefe, Robert (Kris) Keefe, Grant (Mae) Keefe, Lomond (Beryl) Keefe, James Keefe; Daughters Beatrice Gear, Nancy (Richard) Shulek, Celeste (Byron) White; Florence (George) Canning; and sister Maude Saunders as well as 23 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 15 great-great grandchildren, one great-great -great grandson as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. Visitation was held at the Apostolic Faith Church in Englee from where the funeral service was held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 11, 2016 with Pastor George Burton officiating.  Interment followed in the New Apostolic Cemetery in Englee. JOHNSON, JOYCE VERNETHA

Passed away gracefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial in St. Anthony on the 22nd of October, 2015, Mrs. Joyce Johnson of St Anthony, in her 78 year. Joyce Johnson (Decker) was born June 10th, 1937 to Adelaide (Bessey) and Henry Decker. She grew up in Wild Bight and at the age of 14 years, she moved with her family to St. Anthony. She met and married the love of her life, her friend and companion, Mark Johnson on December 11, 1957. Together they had four children: Wavie, Sharon, Rick, and Paul. Her family was her most valued treasure.

Joyce’s life was filled with creativity, she loved to sing and gave her family the gifts of music, love, and laughter. She spent her time knitting, rug hooking, and crocheting for example, and by far, her gardens brought her the greatest of joy.

 She leaves to mourn and will be sadly missed by her children Wavie (Paula), Sharon (Edward),  Rick (Jennifer), and Paul (Lisa), her grandchildren Stephanie, Shaun, Daniel, David, Donovan, Hannah, and Julia, her loving sister Nina (James) and nieces Sheila, Shauna, Shirley, Elizabeth, Lavenia, and Shirley, nephews Steven, Howard, James, David, and Nathanial along with many loving family and friends.

Joyce was a gracious, generous, loving woman and she will be greatly missed by her close friends Josie Powell, Barbara Brown, Phoebe Ollerhead, Flo Keats, Jack Alcock and her community.

 Joyce was predeceased by her husband Mark, her parents Henry and Adelaide Decker, brothers Nathaniel (Emily), James (Ada) and her sister Edith (Erastus), her nieces Winnifred and Vivian, and nephew Martin.

Visitation was held at the St. Mary's Anglican Church in St. Anthony, from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 25th with Fr. Rev. Paul Findlay officiating. DIAMOND, LENORA PEARL GAYE

Lenora Pearl Gaye (Colbourne) Diamond was born to Ferdinand and Stella (Budden) Colbourne of Little Brehat on July 15, 1945. When she was 10 years old she and her family moved to St. Anthony where she continued her schooling. Gaye took up employment at the Bank of Nova Scotia for a few years and she met and married the love of her life Calvin Diamond in 1967.  They had four children together. After the kids were all in school, Gaye went to work for Canada Post where she proudly worked for 19 years retiring in 2005. She enjoyed a wonderful life with Calvin raising their family. Gaye enjoyed to the fullest being at the cabin, cooking for family and friends, spending time with her grandchildren, and in her spare time she would love to play bingo, knit, read and play cards or scrabble.  Left with a life time of loving memories are her Husband Calvin, her children Darren (Shawna), Duane (Allison), Dean (Krista) and Lynn (Travis), nine grandchildren: Cara, Michelle (Darren), Mark, Paul (Duane), Danielle, Jenna, Sarah (Dean), Grant and Hannah (Lynn), sister Lois (Roger), niece Krysta (Travis), sister-in-law Dot, nephews Steve (Brenda) and Tom (Glenda), Brother-in-law Marvin (Edna), nephews Michael and Brent. She also leaves a large circle of relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Calvin’s parents, and her brother Wayne.  Visitation was held at The Funeral Home in St. Anthony, after which the funeral service was held at the united church in St. Anthony at 2:00pm on Friday, October 9th 2015 with Rev. Gus Pendelton officiating. Burial followed the service at the Fishing Point United Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. ALCOCK, LEWIS WINSTON

Passed away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 11th of June, 2015, Mr. Lewis Winston Alcock in his 72nd year with his wife Joyce and son Paul at his side. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Joyce, son Paul(Dawn), daughter Lisa (Ricky) and 5 grandchildren: Joshua, Grace, Andrea, Reid and Bria, brother Jack, and four sisters: Enid, Kathy (Donald),Alice(Stan), Jean (George)and son-in-law Robert.  He was predeceased by his daughter Deanne and parents John and Gladys Alcock. Visitation was held at the Funeral home in St. Anthony, After which the Funeral service took place at the St. Mary's Anglican Church in St. Anthony at 2:00pm on the 15th of June 2015 with Rev. Fr. Paul C. Findlay officiating. Burial followed the service in the St. Anthony Anglican Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Mary's Anglican Church Cemetery Fund may be made. Passed away peacefully at the Chalres S. Curtis Memorial Hopital on the 1st day of April 2015, Mrs. Judith Anderson of St. Anthony was in her 55th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her husband Dwight, Daughter Amy(Gerry), Father Clarus Barney, Mother Sarah Barney, Brother Arthur (Karen), Brother Timonthy(Caren),  Mother-in- Law Pearl Anderson, Brother-in-Law James(Ann), Sister-in-Law Audrey(Tabi) as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends. She was predeceased by her Father-in- Law Alfred Anderson.
