Went to be with the Lord after a brief illness at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on February 10, 2017 at the age of 92 years. Stella was one of 11 children born to Charles and Miriam Simms. She is survived by her daughters Ella (Pearce), Edith (Calvin) Coles, Melva Simms (Alonzo Drover), her son Tobe Carpenter (Juliette Pottinger); Grandchildren Maurice Pilgrim (and family), Mario Pilgrim (and daughter), Kim Byrne (and family), Clay Simms (and family), Brad Coles (and family), Krista Simms (and family), Ronnie Carpenter, and Penney Reid (and family). She was predeceased by her husband Tobias Carpenter 38 years ago as well by her special friend, Raymond Budgell, 20 years ago. Stella was a lifelong resident of St. Anthony and a long-time member of the Bethel Pentecostal Church. She will be greatly missed but leaves us all with a lifetime of treasured memories. Visitation was held at Kerry M Fillatre’s Funeral Home and the Bethel Pentecostal Church (St. Anthony) from where the funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 14th, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor Bessey officiating. TUCKER, CARL
Carl was born in ship cove on June 15, 1944 to Mamie tucker. He was raised by his grandparents Kenneth and Elizabeth tucker. He married Millicent Andrews on June 20th 1968 and they raised for children, Trevor, Rene, Andy and Tim. Carl served as a foster parent to a number of children, most notably Jennifer Simms, whom he considered a part of the family. He worked at Newfoundland and Labrador hydro for all of his adult life, retiring in 2004. Carl was very dedicated to his family. He loved the outdoors, especially winter. He loved to play guitar and mouth organ, and loved telling stories, laughing and making people laugh. He enjoyed being around other people and was a friend to everyone he met. Carl Passed away into peace on the 9th of November, 2015 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony. He leaves behind his wife Millicent, children Trevor (Lesley), Rene (Steve), Andy (Maria), Tim (Melissa), grandchildren Dylan, Alyssa, Drew, and Layla. As well as his brother Wilfred and a large circle of family and friends. Carl Lived to see the passing of his grandparents Kenneth and Elizabeth and his brother Val. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal church in St. Anthony, from which the funeral service was held at 11am on the 13th of November 2015, with Pastor Jeff Bessey Officiating. Burial followed in the Church Cemetery. The family request that donations be made to the Pancreatic Cancer Society Craig’s Cause.
SIMMS, STERLING GEORGE
Passed away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 6th of May, 2015, Mr. Sterling George Simms of St. Anthony in his 77th year. Sterling leaves to mourn his wife Shirley Simms, his sons Terry (Donna), Morgan (Verla), daughter Sybil (Glenn), Grandchildren Christa (Darryl), Jason (Angelina), Kristopher and Shannon, Great grandchildren Karli and Kaeden. As well as his brother Watson (Betty), Sisters Mariam Lane (Rex), Barbara Barton (Vincent), Patsy Penney (Leon) and long-time family friend Lorne Slade. Sterling was predeceased by his parents William and Bessie, Brother Wellington Sister Carol Good, Nephew Kevin Hillier and Niece Shenna Barton. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony and continued at the Pentecostal Church, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on the 10th of May 2015 with Pastor Jeff Bessey officiating, burial followed the service at the church cemetery. HILLIER, ROLAND




Passed away at The Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony NL, Mr. Roland Hillier of St. Anthony in his 76th year. Roland leaves to mourn; his wife Annie, Children Morey, Gloria (Clement), Winnie, Vivian (Victor), Fred (Reeta), Tony (Margaret), and Robbie (Karen), 9 Brothers and Sisters and a large circle of grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his special Furry friend Cheeko. Roland was predeceased by his father Hedley Hillier, Mother Pearl Hillier and Brother Kaye Hillier. Visitation was held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony beginning Monday November 3rd and continuing through to the funeral service, which took place at 2:00pm on Thursday November 6th 2014 with Pastor Jeff Bessey Officiating. PATEY, PHYLLIS BLANCHE
Phyllis was born to Josiah and Winnifred Kearley of Sop’s Arm, NL. She married Archibald Patey of little Brehat on July 18th, 1945. They raised ten children happily together in St. Anthony. Phyllis loved to cook, bake, knit, and especially sing and spend time with her grandchildren. Phyllis passed away in to perfect peace with her family around her at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony on the 4th of September, 2014 at the age of 87 years. Left with a lifetime of loving memories are her sons Rex (Leah), Don (Masie), Terry (Karen), Randy (Mary), Glenn (Gail), Kirby (Glennis) her Daughters Thelma (Lew), Judy (Ernie), Daughter in law Millicent, 25 Grandchildren and 26 Great- Grandchildren, she will be forever loved and sadly missed by all her knew her. Phyllis lived to see the passing of her Husband Archibald Patey, her sons Dennis Patey and Darren Patey and her granddaughter Treena Patey. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Saturday September 6th with Pastor Jeff Bessey officiating. HOWELL, MARGARET CLARA
Margaret Clara Hancock was born in Goose Cove, NL on August 11, 1952 to Joseph and Agnes Hancock. She grew up in the community with her two brothers, John and Phillip, and her two sisters Theresa and Elizabeth. Margaret graduated high school at Harriot Curtis Collegiate, and went on to graduate as a Registered Nurse from Western Memorial School of Nursing in Corner Brook in 1975. She then came to work in Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthon, where she spent time in many roles, but most enjoyed her time in the Emergency Dept. Margaret married Guy Howell in 1980. They had two children, Krista Lynn and Christopher. After an early retirement from her profession, Margaret spent a great deal of her time involved in activities at her church, Bethel Pentecostal Church. She enjoyed cooking and caring for others. She gave tirelessly of her time and love to anyone and everyone who came in her path. Margaret Passed away into Peace on 10th of July, 2014, with her family by her side. She leaves to mourn her husband, Guy, daughter Krista Lynn, son Christopher (Stefanie), sister Theresa (Edward), sister Elizabeth, brother Phillip (Gail), mother in law Flora, sister in law Selma, brother in law Todd (Sandra), several nieces and nephews, and a large circle of other family and friends. She is predeceased by her father and mother, Joseph and Agnes as well as her brother John. Visitation was held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church, from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 13th of July with Pastor Jeff Bessey officiating.
