DECKER, NEVA IVY

was born in Miles Cove, NL to Stephen and Rhoda (Short) Normore on September 28, 1941. She had one sister and four brothers. She met Samuel Decker while he was teaching in the area and they were married on September 29th, 1960. Neva was the proud mother of three sons: Moody, George, and Stephen. Neva and Samuel were also blessed with four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; whom they loved dearly. Neva followed her husband, Samuel, to his hometown of L’Anse aux Meadows; but they spent many years living in Ontario and Corner Brook before returning to L’Anse aux Meadows. They later moved to St. Lunaire-Griquet where they lived out the remainder of their lives together. Neva was a homemaker at heart but spent most of her working life at the Fisheries Products Plant in St. Anthony. She had a love of quilting and gifted her family with her homemade expressions of love. Neve was predeceased by her husband, Samuel, on October 20, 2017. They were committed to the faith, loved God, and regularly attended the Pentecostal Church in St. Lunaire-Griquet. She leaves to mourn her Sons, Moody (Sue-Ann), George (Yvonne), Stephen (Wanda); Grandchildren, Bobby, April, Stephanie, Vanessa; Great-grandchildren, Lucas, Leah, Skylar; Brothers, Cyril (Avis), Lloyd (Flora); Sister, Joy (Cecil), as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and close friends. Neva was predeceased by her husband, Samuel Wilfred Decker; Father, Stephen Normore; Mother, Rhoda (Short) Normore; Brothers, Eric, and Lesie. Visitation was held from the Pentecostal Faith Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet from where the funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 2nd, 2018 at 2:00 with Pastor Baker officiating. HUMBY, JOHN EDWARD

In Loving memory of John Edward Humby, born February 24, 1929. Passed away on April 20, 2017 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 88 years. He leaves to mourn his wife Viola of 67 years marriage. Sons Wallace; Mervin (Suzanne); Sandy; Dale (Laurie); Ren (Debbie); Daughters Gladys (Lloyd) Mildred (Kevin) and Evelyn. 14 Grandchildren and 17 Great-Grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents William and Dinah Humby; Brother Jim; Sisters Livie, Emma, Pearl and Annie. SIMMS, NELLIE GAYE

passed away on February 24, 2017 at her private residence at the age of 62 years. Nellie Gaye Simms was born November 20th, 1954 at St. Anthony, NL to Alec and Myrtle Simms. She grew up in St. Anthony Bight and then moved to St. Lunaire-Griquet with life-long partner Keith. Nellie worked at food services at Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital for about 30 years. For the past 8 years Nellie worked at Burdens General Store. Nellie loved having the close comfort and companionship of her dog Rufus as she relaxed with a good book. A highlight of her life was spending time with her Grandson Cole. She will be missed by family and friends. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her Husband Keith Burden; Sons Bret and Brian Simms; Grandson Cole Simms; Brother Hayward Simms;  Sisters Jessie Carter, Elsie Parrill, Bessie (Edgar) Blake, Juanita Powell; Mother-in-law Velma Burden; Father-in-law Graham Burden; Sisters-in-law Rita Simms, Karen (Verrick) Patey, Kathy (Roger) Patey, Ann (Gary) Davis; Brothers-in-law George (Cathy) Davis, Neil (Lois) Burden, Kent (Corry) Burden, Kerry (Wendy) Burden, Kirby (Vanessa) Burden as well as a large circle or relatives and friends. HILLIER, CASSIE VINE

Passed away October 6, 2016 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 78 years. She Leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her Husband of 62 years, Allan Hillier; Children Bob, Lawrence (Audrey), Glen (Shelly), Gary, Yvonne (George), Joann (Gene), Jennifer (Dean); Daughter-in-law Lesley; her Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren; 1 brother, 8 sisters as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her parents Fred and Gladys Burden, Son Scott, and Sister Florence. BUSSEY, RICKY JAMES

Ricky James was born in St. Lunaire to Gordon and Marjorie Bussey on January 25th, 1949. After the passing of his father, Ricky and his brother Wilson, carried on in the family fishery. After the closure of the fishery in 1992 he worked with Burden's Trucking offloading fishing boats.
He was a hard worker, and a fun loving person. He loved gardening, berry picking, hunting and fishing, and playing games. He is survived by 1 brother, Wallace; 3 sisters, Helen, Selma (Wilfred), Irene (Velmer) and a large number of nephews and nieces that he was very fond of. He was also surrounded by a large circle of friends. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. The funeral took place at the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet on Tuesday, January 12, 2016 with Pastor Wayne Baker officiating. HEDDERSON, JOHN WELDON

John Weldon Hedderson was born on June 24th, 1928 to Albert and Matilda Hedderson. On February 3rd, 1963, he married the love of his life, Susie Hedderson. Together they were blessed with five children. John was a fisherman all his life and an active member of the fisherman's Union. He also ran the post office in Straitsview. John was a community oriented man who actively volunteered. He did not mind speaking with government officials and worked hard to ensure that the community received adequate funding. He was a fighter who would "go all the way" for what he believed in. He leaves to mourn a large and loving family including his wife Susie; sons Terry (Natalie), and Dwight (Mary); daughters Ella (Wayne), and Elaine; sister Nellie (Walter); grandchildren Terry (Stephanie), Dillon (Elizabeth), Matthew (Robyn), Bryan, Jenna, Noah, and Arren; and great-grandchild Allison. John was predeceased by his parents Albert and Matilda; son Bryan; brothers Issac, Marckus, Samuel, Jim, Noah, Edgar, Heber, and Lenoard; and sister Marjorie. He will be forever loved and remembered fondly. Visitation was held at the Pentecostal Church in St. Lunaire-Griquet from where the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Friday, November 13, 2015 with Pastor Baker officiating.
