POWELL, MARY ELLEN

January 7, 1937- November 18, 2023

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on November 18, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.

Mary was born January 7, 1937 to Johanna and Peter Dempsey in Grandois, NL. She moved to Goose Cove at a young age. It was there she met and married the love of her life, Hedley Powell. They were married on November 10, 1954 and together raised 9 children. Mary was a devoted, loving mother who always put her family above everything and ensured they never wanted for anything.

She leaves to mourn with broken hearts her children: Marie, Norm, Phyllis, Judy (Clyde), Patricia (John), Olive (Chris), Marina (Mike), Roxanne (Darrell), and Derek (Bonnie); Grandchildren: Shelley (Melissa), Audrey, Sarah (Dirk), Jorden, Denata (Shaun), Jesse, Alysha (Dean), Alex, Anika (Dan), Adam (Deana), Patrick (Alicia), Andrew (Alison), DJ (Rebecca), Johanna (John), Emily, and Sam; Great-grandchildren: Tyler, Caleb, Calleigh, Emilia, Riley, Clinton, Jesse, Jorja, Oliver, Owen, Jacob, Jensen, Lexa, Avery, Emery, and Meredith; Sister: Alice; Brother: Peter as well as many extended family.

She was predeceased by her parents: Johanna and Peter; husband: Hedley; son-in-law: Wilf; grandson: Christopher; great-granddaughter: Willow; sister: Mary; and brothers: Vergus and Gary.

Her family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to the staff of the John M Gray Center for caring for her in her final years. A special thank-you to Virg Gibbons for helping make a very difficult time more bearable. All your kindness and care will never be forgotten.

Visitation will take place from Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony on Sunday, November 19, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 7-8:30 pm to be followed by family prayer from 8:30-9 pm. The funeral service will take place on Monday, November 20, 2023 from the Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church in Goose Cove at 11:00 am with Fr. George officiating. Cremation will follow with a burial service to be announced at a later date.

ADAMS, JASPER

November 23, 1942 - November 27, 2018

It is with great sadness that the family of Jasper Adams announce his passing at the L.A. Miller Center in St. John’s, NL on November 27th. Jasper passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family. Born in Roddickton, November 23, 1942, Jasper had a love for fishing, hunting, berry picking, music and his family. Left with the greatest memories are his wife Betty, daughters Debbie Fillier (Keywood), Kathy King (Craig), son Robert (Carolyn), his grandchildren Terri-Lynn Fillier (Brent), Brandon Filler (Nicole) and Ethan King, great grandson Grayson Randell. Also to mourn his brothers Leamon (Emily), Jerry (Joanne), Dorman (Denise), sisters Clara (Simon), Rowena, Evelyn (Larry), Triffena (Dan) along with a large number of family and friends. He is predeceased by his parents James and Elizabeth Adams, brothers Baxter and James, sisters Lavinia, Mildred and Olive. A special thank you to the staff of the L.A. Miller Center, Palliative Care Unit that provided such good care to Jasper and his family. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Fillatre’s Funeral Home with the celebration of Jasper’s life taking place at Calvary Pentecostal Temple, Roddickton, NL on December 2nd at 11 am with Pastor Benjamin Brown officiating interment to follow at the Pentecostal cemetery. GENGE, DELLA MARGARET

May 07, 1962 - November 17, 2017

It is with great sadness that the family of Della Margaret Genge announce her passing on Friday, November 17, 2017, following a courageous battle with cancer . Della passed peacefully away at home in Anchor Point, surrounded by her loving family. She was 55 years young. Della was widely known for her beautiful smile and caring nature. She loved her family and grandchildren and was greatly involved in family life. She was creative and very humble about her artistic ability. She leaves to mourn, with cherished memories her Mother Margaret Purchase; Husband Israel Genge; Children Christen (Kim), Jonathan (Jessica), Tiffany (Tad); Grand Children Adrian, Katie, Jaxon, Chace; Brother Lorne Purchase(Cory Mowbray); Sisters Gaye (Baxter Allen), Kim (Rayfield Genge), Martha (Mark Doubleday), Ada (Marvin Applin); Sisters In Law Palma (Dean Genge), Beatrice (Whyman Gaulton), Sadie ( Winston Hopkins) as well as Nieces, Nephews, great nieces and nephews, and a large circle of extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her father, Lloyd Purchase (Corner Brook). Visitation took place at St. Matthews Anglican Church in Anchor Point from where the funeral service was held on Monday, November 20, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Omar Reyes officiating. Passed away at the Health Science Centre in St. Johns on November 23, 2016 at the age of 50 years. Visitation was held at the Sacred Heart Parish in Conche from where the funeral service was held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 10:00 am with Fr. Lourdhu officiating. Interment followed.
