RANDELL, MATTHEW

February 10, 1956 – December 21, 2021

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of Mathew Randell on December 21, 2021. Matt was born on February 10, 1956. He is predeceased by his father Samuel Randell, his mother Amy Randell, and sister Ruby Dredge of Black Duck Cove. He leaves behind his brother Leslie Randell of Roddickton, his brother in law Jacob Dredge, his nephews Tyson Dredge (Josephine) and Trevor Dredge, his great nephew Reed and numerous cousins.

After finishing high school, Matt did a carpentry course at trade school, subsequently travelling to Alberta for work. After a short duration of working in Alberta, Matt returned home, later moving to Ontario where he worked as a cabinet builder. Upon his return from Ontario, Matt commenced work with a survey crew, working on the highways. This job led to Matt’s permanent employment of 24 years with the Department of Highways. He spent most of those years working out of the Plum Point and Flower’s Cove depots. During his time in the Straits, Matt lived with his sister Ruby, brother in law Jacob and their family.

One of Matthew’s loves was working in his workshop, creating a variety of wood crafted items. He was always ready to lend a hand to those who required help or wanted items made. Matt loved all types of tools, in fact his workshop is overfilled with tools that were never opened. Matt was a very quiet and unassuming man, often seen on a warm summer’s day, sitting on the bench by his workshop and looking out at the neighborhood activities.

Shortly after his retirement, in 2020, Mathew was diagnosed with Cancer and succumbed to the disease. Matt will be missed by his family, friends, and coworkers.

Private visitation times and dates to be announced. The funeral service will take place from the Roddickton United Church on Sunday, December 26, 2021 at 11:00 am with Rev. John McGonigle officiating. Interment to follow. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey, Funeral Director.

REID, MATTHEW LEVI

Matthew was born in St. Anthony on Jan. 15, 1987. He moved away with his mom to Gander at the age of two years. He made many moves with his military family throughout his childhood years. In December, 2010, Matthew decided to move back home to St. Anthony. In 2011, Matthew met his wife Penney and his stepson Reid Taylor. They began their lives together and were happily married on Nov. 9, 2013. Matthew dearly loved his family and cherished every moment he spent with them. Despite a very difficult year, Matthew and Penney shared a miracle when their beautiful daughter, Isabella, was born. Anyone who knew Matthew knew that he was so proud to be a father. He loved his children, wife and family and his extra special friends unconditionally without question. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Penney; son Reid, daughter Isabella; son Emmanuel (adopted); parents Dawn and Mike Walsh; brother Leo; grandparents Jean and Levi Reid; grandmother Isabella Walsh; grandfather Mike Walsh (Barb), numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, extra special friends Brenda Best and Brad Shattler, the Nicholas family, and a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by a number of grandparents and aunts and uncles on both sides of the family, and especially his great uncle Levi Reid, who Matthew held very dear to his heart. Visitation took place at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service was held At 2:00pm on Saturday, Jan. 3 with Rev. Paul Findlay officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Trust Fund (see Below). Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger, funeral director.
