CHAMBERS, MIRIAM MARTHA

It is with great sadness that the family of Miriam Chambers announce her passing at Curtis Memorial Hospital on Monday, April 13. She will be sadly missed by her children: Gloria (Bill) Caines, Betty (James) Genge, Ron (Anne) Chambers, Garfield (Geraldine) Chambers, her sister Gladys (George) Stockley and sister-in-law, Alma. She is predeceased by her husband, Ronald; son, Albert; father, Albert Mitchelmore; mother, Mary Ann Mitchelmore; brothers: George Henry (Myrtle) Mitchelmore, Garfield Mitchelmore, “little” Stewart; and Colleen Gould. Miriam also leaves to mourn her grandchildren: Joanne (Roderick), Jarvis (Katie), Tiffany (Danny), Deirdre (Elliot), Dillon (Katie), Chauncey (Judy), Chuck (Laura), Chantel (Matt), Adam (Jessica), Richard (Christa), Kaitlan (Brent), Travis, Jennifer (Jason), Amanda (Dwayne), Roxanne (Kenneth); her daughter-in- law Elsie (Chester); and Ena Taylor. She will be also sadly missed by her many great grandchildren: Victoria (Bradley), Christopher (Jemma), Sheldon (Kayla), Cole, Tye, Chase, Conner, Shelby, C. J., Cody, Samuel, Lucas, Katherine, Grace, Chase, Bricen, Chelsea, Cameron, Annabel, Patrick, Nicholas, Heath, and Forester; and her great-great grandchildren: Kate and Leah Miriam and Ronald met in Blue Cove where she was hired as a teacher at the local school. They were married shortly after and Miriam relinquished her teaching career to become a fisherman’s and trapper’s wife. Through some challenging times they were able to raise five children and see them thrive and raise their own families. Mother always took great pride in the achievements of her family. She always had a tremendous value for education and was so proud to see her children and grandchildren graduate from high school and in some cases continue their education. Mother adjusted well to being the wife of a fisherman and trapper. No one could cutthroat a cod more quickly or effectively than her or make a meal of rabbit taste better. Her grandchildren always said that Nan cooked the best eggs, and certainly the best tea and toast! She always prided herself on being a great knitter and seamstress and boasted one of the finest gardens in the community. Although not a regular church-goer, mother was a deeply religious person and would have wanted her family and friends at an official church service where there could be a celebration of her life. There is so much that family and friends would like to say about mother, and at a later time, when the difficulties of this recent health threat have passed, we will all get together and celebrate the wonderment and achievement of her lengthy and productive life. A special thanks goes out to all the well- wishers, those who cared for her in her final hours, those who helped at the grave site and any that supported the family at this sorrowful time. Your thoughts and kindness are greatly appreciated. The Burial service was held at the Anglican Cemetery in Pond Cove on April 15, 2020 with Rev. Deacon Vernon Short Officiating. Funeral arangments were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Alicia Patey Funeral Director.
