PATEY, JOYCE MARIE

November 30, 1934 - September 17, 2024

Joyce was born in St. Lunaire on November 30, 1934, to the Late William and Alice (Compton) Earle. But that is only the beginning of her story.

On November 13, 1952, when she was 18 years old, she married the love of her life, Noah Patey. He was her confidant, support, encourager, and strength, right to the end.

In the years that followed, ten children were born to them - Roy (Annie), Selma (Newell), Verick (Karen), Dean (Wavey), Frank (Sharon), Lloyd (Brenda), Roger (Kathy), Rowena (Wade), Glenda (Scott), the baby of the family, Charlie (Denise), and her special niece, Lori. She loved their spouses as much as them, but especially the grandchildren they gave her - 17 of them in total - Kenny, Jamie, Charlene, Angie, Gregory, Mandy, Ryan, Stephanie, Samantha, Damian, Candace, Janelle, Nichole, Courtney, Jeffrey, Jessica, and Caleb, plus two step-granddaughters, Melissa and Jessica. In the years to follow, great-grandchildren were born, and it is possible she loved them most of all - Lucas, Daniel, Rebecca, Paige, Mason, Jake, Kylie, Judah, Maxx, Benjamin, Rachel, and Ross. For almost 72 years, Joyce and Noah’s was a story of love, patience, generosity, and commitment, a legacy and example that will not soon be forgotten.

Joyce loved berry picking, especially partridge berries and bake apples, and was known to scrape over the “mish” before the berries were even ripe. You could always count on her to catch the biggest fish, or to get a trout or smelt when no one else could manage to get a bite. She’s was a constant companion to “Noar”, whether it was a trip to the woods, Main Brook for trouting, berry picking across the bay, or just for a ride in the latest vehicle. And how can we forget the molasses buns, fresh bread, chocolate chips cookies, and candies that were always found in plenty.

She was also known a

s the canteen lady for years, operating the school cafeteria at A. Garrigus Pentecostal School, until she retired. It was there many students, and sometimes a teacher, had their debts forgiven, and everyone knew the smile of “Aunt Joyce.”

But most importantly, Joyce was a woman of great, unshakeable faith. Life was sometimes a challenge. But you could always find her at home drawing a Promise from the Promise Box, or reading her Bible, and she was always eager to pray for her family and assure them everything was going to be okay. She was a faithful supporter of her church and her pastors, and taught Sunday school and led the preschool class at VBS for many years, along with her sister in law, Mary. If there was ever a woman of God, Joyce Patey was just that.

She was predeceased by her parents, her in-laws Samuel and Beulah Patey, Siblings Charles (Sis) Augustus (Mae) Agnes (Ambrose) Martha (Tom), Pastor Harvey Earle (Lavinia), her special brother, Frank; brothers in law Sidney Hussey and Gordon Pilgrim; and a precious granddaughter (Charlene). She leaves to mourn her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters Marshall (Lewis), Rita (Eric), and a large number of family and friends.

Public Visitation will take place from Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle, St. Lunaire-Griquet, on Wednesday September 18, from 2-4pm, and 7-9pm. Her Homegoing Service will be conducted at the church, on Thursday, September 19, 2024 at 2:00pm, by Pastors Geoffrey and Charity Butler, and her grandson, Pastor Gregory Patey.

It is with heavy hearts that the family of the late Mrs. Joyce Genge announce her passing on September 4, 2024 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 90 years.

Joyce’s memory will be forever cherished by her Daughters: Ivy, Yvonne (Doug); Sons: Clarence (Lisa), Clayton (Velma), Simeon (Shirley), Darris (Kim); Grandchildren: Morgan (Gladys), Vernon (Sherrie), Todd (Yuko), Yvonne, Mitchel, Brent, Corey (Jelisa), Jason, Tyler, Maegan (Kelin); 9 Great-grandchildren; 5 Great-great-grandchildren; and Brother-in-law: Rufus Genge as well as a large circle of Nieces, Nephews. and other extended family and friends.

She is predeceased by her husband: John Genge; Son: Henry Thomas Genge; Son-in-law: Bud Simms; Sister: Sophia Genge; Brothers: Lambert and Elijah Genge; Mother: Susannah Genge; Father: William Genge; and Step Father: Pius Genge.

Visitation will take place from St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Anchor Point beginning the evening of Saturday, September 7, 2024 and will continue until the funeral on Monday, September 9, 2024 at 2:00 PM with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating. Interment to follow.

JOHNSON, JOYCE VERNETHA

Passed away gracefully at Charles S. Curtis Memorial in St. Anthony on the 22nd of October, 2015, Mrs. Joyce Johnson of St Anthony, in her 78 year. Joyce Johnson (Decker) was born June 10th, 1937 to Adelaide (Bessey) and Henry Decker. She grew up in Wild Bight and at the age of 14 years, she moved with her family to St. Anthony. She met and married the love of her life, her friend and companion, Mark Johnson on December 11, 1957. Together they had four children: Wavie, Sharon, Rick, and Paul. Her family was her most valued treasure.

Joyce’s life was filled with creativity, she loved to sing and gave her family the gifts of music, love, and laughter. She spent her time knitting, rug hooking, and crocheting for example, and by far, her gardens brought her the greatest of joy.

 She leaves to mourn and will be sadly missed by her children Wavie (Paula), Sharon (Edward),  Rick (Jennifer), and Paul (Lisa), her grandchildren Stephanie, Shaun, Daniel, David, Donovan, Hannah, and Julia, her loving sister Nina (James) and nieces Sheila, Shauna, Shirley, Elizabeth, Lavenia, and Shirley, nephews Steven, Howard, James, David, and Nathanial along with many loving family and friends.

Joyce was a gracious, generous, loving woman and she will be greatly missed by her close friends Josie Powell, Barbara Brown, Phoebe Ollerhead, Flo Keats, Jack Alcock and her community.

 Joyce was predeceased by her husband Mark, her parents Henry and Adelaide Decker, brothers Nathaniel (Emily), James (Ada) and her sister Edith (Erastus), her nieces Winnifred and Vivian, and nephew Martin.

Visitation was held at the St. Mary's Anglican Church in St. Anthony, from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on Sunday, October 25th with Fr. Rev. Paul Findlay officiating. Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center on the 5th day of January 2014. Mrs. Joyce Coombs of Plum Point was in her 82nd year. She was predeceased by her Husband George W. Visitation was held at the church of Advent in Plum Point followed by the funeral service at 11:00am on the 9th day of January 2014 with Rev. Harold Harvey officiating. Passed away suddenly at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 12th of October, 2013 at the age of 63 Mrs. Joyce Olive Fillier, of Englee NL. Joyce leaves behind her husband Garfield Fillier, her sons Jeffery (Denna) Fillier of Englee, Craig (Cindy) Fillier of Vancouver B. C., Shawn (Darlene) Fillier of Englee, Jason (Colleen) Fillier of Cap ele NB, Damian (Robin) Fillier of Fort Macmurry, Daughters Debbie (Kevin) of Goose Bay and Paulette (Mohammed) of Alexandria Egypt, Brother Hiram (Leona) Randell of Goose Bay, Sisters Jessie Burden of Gander, Ethel (Roy) Pilgrim of Goose Bay, Mildred Campbell of Goose Bay, Alma (David) Hynes of Twillingate, and Margaret (Hubert) Burden of Goose Bay. As well as grandchildren Justin, Jenna, Jeanessa, Kerry, Robbie, Jamie, Chantal, Kendra and Cynthia, Great Grandchildren Robert, Sean, Brooklyn and Douglas and a large circle of family and friends. The visitation was held at the Salvation Army Church in Englee, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Wednesday October 16, 2013 with Major Baggs Officiating.
