PILGRIM, DANIEL TODD

December 9. 1959 - September 13, 2024

Todd (as known to family and friends) was born in Longueuil, Quebec on December 9, 1959, to Ross and Robena (Ruby) Pilgrim of Roddickton, NL. Todd passed from this life on September 13, 2024. Todd while born in Quebec grew up on Roddickton and always considered Roddickton as his hometown.

Todd began his career as a Natural Resource Officer after completing high school. He was chosen Valedictorian and Speaker of his class at the Canadian Institute of Forestry. He attained his Bachelor of Science Degree from Lakehead University in Ontario.

His career as a Forestry Officer began in Roddickton, afterwards he moved to Labrador and eventually to the Yukon where he built a home and made numerous lifelong friends along the way.

After Todd retired, he moved to BC to be closer to his children and to pursue further adventures in life. Todd wrote a children’s book called Angie, the Tundra Swan. The true story of his finding an injured swan, nurturing it and returning it to the wild.

Todd was a dedicated father, son, and brother with a great love for the outdoors, wildlife, and was always looking for the next adventure

He leaves to mourn children, Son, Thor Pilgrim and Daughter, Shantelle Pilgrim; Mother: Robena (Ruby) Pilgrim (Newhook); Brothers: Shane (Hilda) Pilgrim, and Trevor (Shanna) Pilgrim; Nephews and nieces: Russell Pilgrim, Ryan (Shawna) Pilgrim, and Shelby Pilgrim, Shelley (Chris) Haggett; Great nephew: Layne Pilgrim; Great nieces: Angelie Pilgrim, Eva Pilgrim, Callie Haggett and Tessa Pilgrim; Numerous Aunts, Uncles, and cousins throughout Canada.

His easy- going personality earned Todd numerous close friends throughout his lifetime. We will greatly miss him.

He is predeceased by his father: Ross Pilgrim; Paternal Grandparents: Harvey and Chatfield Pilgrim; Maternal Grandparents: William and Sarah Newhook.

Todd’s going home celebration will be held at the John Wesley United Church, Roddickton, NL on November 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m.

The family wishes that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the John Wesley United Church in loving memory of Todd Pilgrim.

ROPSON, HARVEY

Passed peacefully away at the White Bay Central Health Center on the 20th day of August 2015, Mr. Harvey Ropson of Roddickton was in his 86th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Alma, children Francis(Bonnie) Ropson, Jerry Ropson(Cindy Elgar), The Late Derrick Ropson, Leighton Ropson(Theresa Feltham), Carl Ropson (Tracy Newman), Florence Ropson (Tracy Newman), Florence Ropson-Ricketts (Stuart Ricketts), Judy Ropson - Pittman (Keith Pittman), their Fifteen Grandchildren Sheldon Ricketts, Ryan Ricketts, Victoria Pittman, Bernie Ropson, Lindsay Elgar, Melissa Ropson, Sarah Ropson, Taralee Ropson, Cory Ricketts, Valerie Pittman, Justin Pittman, Alison Ropson, Hillary Elgar, Jessica Ropson, Fifteen Great Grandchildren, Nathan, Blake, Cody, Hailey, Kaleb, Aden, Jack, Scarlett, Amy, Jaden, Tamara, Jake, Amber, Jonah, Amelia, as well as a large circle of family and friends. Visitation was held at the funeral home in Roddickton after which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm from the Wesley United Church in Roddickton on Sunday August 23, 2015 with Rev. Harold Harvey officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger Funeral Director.   

DECKER, CHRISTOPHER ROBERT

                Christopher Robert Decker was born in St. Anthony, N.L on November 17, 1941 to Alan and Leah (Simms) Decker.

                He was raised in Roddickton, N.L, along with his brothers, Eli and Melvin, surrounded by numerous family and friends.

                After finishing Grade 11 in Roddickton, Chris left home at 17 to complete his Grade 12 at Prince Of Whales College in St. John’s, N.L. After Grade 12 he went on to Memorial University to complete an Arts degree before heading to Pine Hill University in Nova Scotia. At Pine Hill he graduated with A Masters of Divinity.

                He met Patricia Roberts in 1965 and married June 27, 1967. They went on to have two children, Lynn and John.

                Chris wore many career hats over the years. United Church Minister to Boat Building. Owned Logging companies to clothing stores. However, his passion was politics. After being involved in Municipal politics for many years, he made the move to Provincial politics. In 1984 he was elected as a Liberal member to serve what was then, The Straits, White Bay North. After a lengthy career serving his great district and province as MHA, and Minister in several portfolios, he retired from the Public Sector in 1999 to lead a more private life.

After a very brief retirement he began working again as a consultant and Author in which he wrote and published three novels.

Of all the careers and titles he has held, his favorite was Grandfather. He lived to spent time with his four grandchildren, Alexandra, Bradley, Christopher and Eddie, and his favorite quote was; “If I knew grandchildren were so much fun, I would have had them first.”

                Chris, along with his wife Pat spent their retirement years between Roddickton, Little Bay Islands and Florida, where he was always surrounded by family and friends, and enjoyed life to the fullest.

                After battling Cancer for over three years he passed away peacefully early Saturday morning, August 8th, 2015. He was predeceased by his parents, Alan and Leah, his brother Eli, and his parents in law, Joe and Daisy Roberts.

The family will be holding a “Celebration of Life” Service at 2 pm, Wednesday, August 12th, 2015 at John Wesley United Church with a burial of his ashes at a later date.
