KING, JESSIE ZOE

November 6, 1936 - December 16, 2023

Passed away at the John M Gray Center in St. Anthony at the age of 87 years, Mrs. Jessie Zoe King.

She will always be loved and remembered by her Children: Kathleen (Israel), Glen (Marcie), Ted (Nicole), Linda (Jeff), Gail (Terry), Deanna (Louis); Grandchildren: Kayla, April (Pat), Damien (Santana), Zachary (Melissa), Cody (Jennifer), Melvin, Mason, Travis (Melanie), Tyler (Paige), Cameron, Wyatt, Aiden, Nathan (Niki), Cody (Laura); Great-grandchildren: Whitney, Nash, Gage, Kensli; Brother: Angus (Hilda) McLean, as well as many other extended family and friends.

She is predeceased by her Husband: Lester King; Parents: Abijah and Rebecca Diamond; Brother: George Diamond; Sister: Amy Elizabeth Diamond; Grandchildren: Ricky Lester King, Brandon King, and Dustin King.

Visitation to take place from St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Flowers Cove beginning the evening of Monday, December 18 2023 and will continue daily until the family service on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at 7:00 pm. The funeral service will follow on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Canon Vernon Short officiating. Interment to follow.

BLAKE, JESSIE MARION

November 30, 1937- April 5,2023

 Passed away April 5,2023 at the John M Gray home in St. Anthony at the age of 85.

 Jessie was born in Raleigh to James & Phoebe Bessey on Nov 30, 1937. At the age of 12 she went to work as a servant girl with the Elliott family in Raleigh. In 1952 she married the love of her life Everett Blake of Spillards cove (Straitsview).

 Jessie spent most of her life taking care of her 7 children, in later years she went to work at the fish plant in St.Anthony. She loved attending to her garden, picking berries, knitting, to keep her family warm, but it didn't stop there she also helped to make the fish. No matter who or when anyone dropped by the kettle was always on for a cup of tea and a lunch. She was a devoted member of the UCW in Raleigh.

Jessie & Everett celebrated 65 years of marriage together in which they grew a new branch of the Blake Family tree.

 Leaving to mourn sons Dennis (Donna), Garry (Betsy), Cyril, Hedley, daughters Cindy (Jim), Dale, & Velma (Barry). Sisters Martha, Rebecca, Effie, Lavinia, Verna. Brothers Garfield, Melvin, Hounsell. Also, 13 Grandchildren, 20 great grand children, & 5 Great great grandchildren.

She is predecased by husband Everett, parents James & Phoebe Bessey, sisters Violet & Vina, and great grandson Austin.

Visitation to take place from the United Church in Raleigh on Friday, April 7, 2023. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 8, 2023 with Pastors Geoff and Charity Butler officiating. Interment to follow.

MORRIS, JESSIE LOUISA (nee Reeves)

July 20, 1943 - January 22, 2023

Jessie Morris was born in Cape North on July 20th, 1943, to Barton and Edith Reeves, she was raised in Goose Cove. She married Clarence Morris in 1963 and moved to Cartwright where they began their family, Jessie with her children later moved to Goose Bay.

Some years later Jessie moved back to Cartwright where she spent the rest of her years. She did not have an easy life, but she worked hard and raised her children, who were her pride and joy. Jessie’s every thought was for her children and grandchildren, longing for them to know the God that she served. Jessie placed her hope in Jesus, she remained that way until her passing in St. Anthony on January 22nd, 2023.

Jessie was a devout Christian who loved to worship her Lord and Savior, she found great peace in this and would do so at every opportunity. Jessie is now kneeling at her Savior’s feet.

Jessie leaves to remember with love, her Daughters: Nellie (Ronald) Pardy, Darlene (Jason) Taylor; Sons: Clarence (Bernice) Morris, Leroy (Sharon) Morris; 5 Grandchildren; 7 Great-grandchildren; Brother: Benjamin (Francis) Reeves; Sisters: Karen (Bob) Lunnen, Charlotte Coombs, as well as many other extended family and friends

She is predeceased by her husband: Clarence Morris; Son: Clifford Morris; Parents; Barton & Edith Reeves; Brother-in-law: Pete Coombs.

The family wishes to acknowledge with heartfelt thanks and appreciation to all whom contributed through the many expressions of love, concern and kindness shown to them during their hour of bereavement and sadness. May God Bless You!

COOMBS, JESSIE ISABELLA

1933 -2019

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Jessie Coombs, of Plum Point on May 28, 2019 at the age of 86 years.

Jessie was born in Birchy Head, NL. but lived her life in Plum Point close to her children. Jessie was first and foremost a dedicated mother to her children. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. Jessie especially loved being a Nan to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

We were truly blessed with a kind and loving mother and we will mourn greatly our loss.

Jessie was predeceased by her husband; Henry Coombs who was the love of her life. Her parents; Silas and Maria Hedge, parents in-law; George and Nellie Coombs, siblings; Miriam (Gilbert Parrill), Hilda Minette Hedge, Wilfred Stanley Hedge, Roland Wesley Hedge and Harvey Clyde Hedge, siblings in-law; Eliza Maynard, Jessie Noseworthy, Evelyn (Leslie Harvey), Rendall Coombs, Gordon Coombs and Ike Gibbons.

Left to celebrate her life and cherish fond and loving memories of her are her children; Rachel (Colin Williams), Ivy (John Gibbons), Stanley (Julia), Karen (Leslie Doyle), Gordon and Evelyn, siblings in-law; Caroline Hedge, Judy Hedge, George Coombs (Virginia), Rachel Gibbons, Wallace Maynard, Donald Noseworthy and Muriel Coombs, grandchildren; Colin, Joe, Cristy, Abe, Jessica, Gavin, Rodney and Daniel, great grandchildren; Brett, Grant, Caleb, Colton, Jenna and Mia. Many nieces & nephews and a wide circle of other family and friends.

Visitation will begin at 11:00am on Friday May 31, at the Anglican Church of the Advent in Plum Point, and there will be a Family Service at 7:00 pm. The funeral is scheduled for 11:00 am on Saturday, June 1, followed by the Burial at Pond Cove Cemetery.

ADAMS, JESSIE BLANCH

August 26, 1950 – December 5, 2018
Passed away December 5th, 2018 from the Charles S. Curtis Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 68 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her Siblings, Dulcie, Elva, Robert, Wilson, Ford, Lawrence; as well as all of her nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own. Jessie was predeceased by her parents, Mary and Kenneth Adams, and Brother Wilfred Adams. Visitation was held from Calvary Pentecostal Church in Roddickton from where the funeral was held on Saturday, December 8th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Benjamin Brown officiating. CARTER, JESSIE

Passed away March 17th, 2018 at the age of 81 years. Jessie was born November 26, 1936 to Myrtle and Alex Simms in St. Anthony Bight. She was the oldest of 7 children. She moved to Great Brehat at a young age to be with the love of her life, John Carter. They were married on November 20th, 1956. They were blessed with 7 children, 15 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. Jessie kept busy over the years caring for her family and working alongside her husband John at whatever work needed to be done, whether it was fishing, cutting wood, or tending to the garden. She will be dearly missed by a large circle of family and friends. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memoires her Children; Fred (Glenice), Dave (Lisa), Lorne (Adell), Wes (Denise), Joyce (Morris), Mae (Colin), Donna (Morley); Brother Hayward Simms; Sisters Elsie, Bessie (Edgar), Juanita; brothers-in-law Charles (Rowena), Keith; Sisters-in-law Olive, Rita; plus 15 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jessie was predeceased by her husband John; Parents Alex and Myrtle Simms; Mother-in-law Mary Carter; Brother and Sister Ross Simms and Nellie Simms; Brothers-in-law Elijah Parrill, Gordon Powell, Don Reid; Sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Minnie) and Minnie. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the Funeral on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. TAYLOR, JESSIE ELLEN

Passed peacefully away at the Straits of Belle Isle Health Center on the 1st day of April 2017. Mrs. Jessie Ellen Taylor of Forrester’s Point was in her 77th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories Sons Sam Taylor(Daisy), Jacob(Mary), Daughters Jenita Taylor(Edward), Jonie Gibbons(Ivan), Grandchildren Corey, Terri(Edward), Cody, Drew, Renita, Great Grandchildren Marty and Natalie. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, Granddaughter Renita Shermin, and Parents Samuel and Elizabeth Bailey. Visitation was held at the St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck cove from which the funeral service was held on Wednesday April 5th, 2017 at 2:00pm with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating. GOULD, JESSIE

Passed peacefully away on the 1st day of June 2016 at her home in Bear Cove surrounded by family and friends. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her Daughters Marilyn, Marjorie(Dave), and Mabel(Brian), Grandchildren Susan(David), Sheldon(Chelsey), Sean, Michael, and Sarah, Her Sisters MaryAnn Dredge and Christina Chambers, Brother Henry Chambers(Barbara), Brother-in-Law Cyril Gould, Sister-in-Laws Bridget Gould, Maria Gould, Hazel Genge, Irene Chambers and Hilda Chambers, Niece Laverne and all other Nieces and Nephews and a large circle of friends. He was predeceased by her Husband Freeman, Parents Stephen and Jane Chambers, Mother and Father-in-Law John and Sarah Gould, Sisters Effie, Georgina, Evelyn, Minnie, Viola, Brothers Edward, Abraham, William and Leslie. Visitation was held at the St. Boniface Anglican Church in Bear Cove from which the funeral service was held on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 11:00am with Rev. Omar Reyes officiating. Jenneth Jessie Colbourne passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on October 4th 2012. She was predeceased by her brothers Roland, George and Mount, and sister Minnie. She is survived by her sister Eliza Perry, and Step Family; Marina Sparkes (Ephraim),  Guy (Montreal), Rita (St. John’s), Melva Whitten (David, St. John’s) and Donald. Jessie was married to Max Colbourne (Deceased 1995). She is mourned by three children; Loretta Patey (Wilbur) of Goose Bay, Overton (Wife Judy) of Corner Brook, and Owen (Wife Julie) of Calgary; Three Grandchildren, Jerry Patey, Ian Colbourne and Jill Colbourne, and Three Great Grand children; Cpl. Eric Patey, Marcus (Goose Bay), and Michael Patey (Labrador City). Jessie was a faithful Soldier of The Salvation Army St. Anthony Citadel Corps., a Sunday School Teacher, Home League and League of Mercy member. She influenced the lives of many people. Jessie was a skilled craftsperson for the Grenfell Industrial, producing high quality hooked mats and embroidery. Examples of her high quality embroidery were present in several handicraft products given as gifts by organizations to visiting dignitaries. Her skill as a mat hooker is present in many collections of work in museums and private collections in the U.S.A. and Canada. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony, followed by the funeral service which took place at 2:00pm on the 7th of October form the Salvation Army Citadel in St. Anthony, burial followed in the church cemetery.
