DARLING, JERRY LEE

28 June, 1940 – 4 May, 2024

Jerry Lee Darling passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 4, 2024 with his wife Angela by his side at the John M. Gray Center, St. Anthony, NL .

Jerry grew up in Ohio, joined the USAF in 1961 where his travels brought him to NL where he stayed and embarked on a civilian career as an aircraft maintenance engineer, eventually retiring in Conche, NL. During his retirement years he enjoyed his time at the cabin in Port au Port, and travelling to visit family in Ohio, Alberta and Ontario with his wife Angela. Whether it was a long walk, hunting or fishing Jerry had a love for being outdoors. He will always be deeply loved and known as Granddad, Jergie and Papa Jerry by his granddaughters whom he cherished. 

Leaving to honor his memory is his spouse Angela; His children: Lee (Lynn), Sherry (Ray), Sandy, Todd (Angela); Granddaughters: Caitlyn, Alannah and Breanna; Siblings: Jenny, Zane, Larry, Jane, and Betty; Special In-laws: Lynn and Ray; Special Friends: Eddie Dempsey, Maurice Power, Connor Power, Michael Deraps, Henry Smith, Frank Duffy, Francis Hunt, Mary Flynn, Paul Power and Bob Frazie along with countless others.

Predeceased by his parents, William and Leota; Brothers: Wayne and Roger.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to The Power Family in St. Anthony for their hospitality and thoughtful acts of kindness, the staff of the John M. Gray Center and Curtis Memorial Hospital and the Labrador-Grenfell Paramedics who went above and beyond to give exceptional care to Jerry. Thank you to Father Amar and the Doctors and care team who saw to his medical needs, as well as Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home for their service.

Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

KEAN, JERRY

November 8, 1941 - October 9, 2023

It is with great sadness and fond memories that we announce the passing of Jerry Kean at the Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 81 years.

Jerry was born in Pound Cove, Bonavista Bay, NL on November 8, 1941.  His parents Cyril and Florence moved to Nobles Island, Quirpon, NL in 1948 and later moved to St. Anthony where he attended school. 

 Jerry was 5th in the family of 10 siblings. From a young age Jerry enjoyed playing the guitar and playing sports.

 He worked in Goose Bay, Frobisher Bay and with I.G.A in St. Anthony.  He met and married the love of his life, Virtue Sulley in March 1962.

 Together they had and raised 6 children Velma, Frank, Dana, Gordon, Trudi and Nicole. And later they welcomed 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

 Jerry worked 31 years with Grenfell Regional Health Services as a painter/plaster.  After he retired in 1997 he volunteered and played music for seniors, the church and local events.

 He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.  He loved his family and music and his family loved him.  Jerry was always playing musical instruments at his house. Whether he was playing a guitar, piano or listening to downloaded music, he had the most perfect way to express and calm the soul.

 “Music is the prayer the heart sings”.  “Where words fail, music speaks”.  

 He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends.

Jerry leaves to mourn with a lifetime of fond memories, his Children: Madonna Dorothy Canning, Velma (Rod) Bown, Frank (Ruby), Dana (Sharon), Gordon, Trudi (Wade) Hiscock, Nicole (Bern) Johnson; Grandchildren: Matthew (Natasha), Deborah (Sheldon), Justin, Stacey (Gaylon), Ashley (Jordan), Jonathan (Lina), Amanda (Leslie), Brittany (AJ), Bernie, Joshua (Tyra), Marshall (JayLynn), Jessica (Jason), Rachel (Curtis); Great-grandchildren, Quinn, Alexis, Gemma, Blake, Noah, Xavier, Blaire, Luke, Braya, Jaxson, Jordyn, Jenna, Mylah; Siblings: Mildred Carter, Ben, Elizabeth (Wilfred) Boyd, Sophie (Calvin) White, Anne (Jim) Smyth, Rowena (Truman) Buckle, Jean (Levi) Reid, Joe (Angela), as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.

Jerry is predeceased by the love of his life: Virtue Kean; Parents: Cyril and Florence Kean; Mother and Father-in-law: Leander and Florence Sulley; Brother: Frank; Brother in-law: Eric Carter; Sister-in-law: Gladys Kean.

The family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to the Doctors, Nurses, and staff of the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital for their compassion and care over the past year.

Visitation to take place from Kerry M Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony from 8-9 pm on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 and 2-4pm and 7-9pm on Thursday, October 12, 2023. The funeral will take place on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 2:00 pm from the St. Anthony United Church. Cremation to follow, burial details to be announced. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made of a charity of ones choice.

BYRNE, JERRY ALPHAOUS

Feb. 25, 1962 - March 16, 2019

Passed tragically away in Conche on March 16th, 2019 at the age of 57 years. Jerry was a man of many talents. He was a fisherman, woodsman, carpentry, tour guide to tourist and friend to all. He loved to talk and took the time to speak to everyone he met and always said hello. He loved music and dancing. He leaves to mourn his Mother, Ellen; brothers Garrett (Selina), Michael (Bernice), Kenneth; Sisters Christine (Matt), Frances (Gary), Elsie (Bob), Doreen (Jean-Guy), Margaret (Bill). Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces & nephew, extended family and circle of friends. Jerry was predeceased by his father William Byrne, brothers Clifford, Robert and William and Nephew Jeremy Scott. Visitation was held from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Conche until the funeral on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 11:00 am with Fr. George officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton.
