STRANGEMORE, SHEILA ELLEN (Nee McDonald)

It is with great sadness that the family of Sheila Ellen Strangemore (nee McDonald) announces her passing on January 28th at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St Anthony Newfoundland, at the age of 77 years.

Born June 13, 1947, in Goose Cove, Newfoundland, she was one of eleven children of William & Anastasia McDonald . Sheila loved life, her many friends and her family, especially her son Liam.

In her early years her sense of adventure and work took her to many places; London, Edmonton, Vancouver, Churchill Falls, to name a few, and she finished her career with Service Canada in St Anthony. Everywhere she went she indulged her passion for photography, enjoyed and shared a good scotch and made and nourished her many friendships.

Unfortunately at the age of 46 she was diagnosed with Leukemia, a disease that would challenge and change her; but never would define her. In 1992, a year before her diagnosis, she met Graham Strangemore, who nurtured and stood by her through her challenges, and five years later they were married. Their happiness however did not last as Graham passed suddenly in April 2002, at the age of 59.

Ever positive, always independent, and forever young, she took life’s challenges in stride and embraced every opportunity it offered.

She leaves to mourn and will be forever missed by her son Liam; six brothers: Raymond, Maurice, Brendan (Kim), Desmond (Martha), Donald (Kristen), and Kevin (Ann); four sisters: Evangeline, Gertrude (Patrick Troy), Mary, Ellen (Tony Sexton); as well as her nephews and nieces, grandnephews, grandnieces, and many friends; especially Carol & Alvin Colborne.

She is predeceased by her husband: Graham; her parents: William and Anastasia McDonald; her beloved Uncle Pad; brothers in law: John Drudge, Harry Urshitz; Sisters in law: Betty, and Eileen.

Public visitation will take place from Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony on Thursday, January 30, 2025 from 7-9 pm and Friday, January 31, 2025 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. BROMLEY, LOUIS PATRICK

March 13, 1956 - November 24, 2022

It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Louis Bromley announce his passing surrounded by love at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on November 24, 2022.

Louis was born on March 13, 1956 in Roddicton, NL to Maurice and Theresa Bromley. He was the oldest of 12 children. He grew up on Fishot Island and later relocated to Goose Cove in 1970. He later moved to St. Anthony in 1988 where he remained until his passing. At a very young age he began his career as a lifelong fisherman; a career that lasted over 50 years. First he fished with his father, and later as an Engineer on a larger vessel. He met the love of his life Lillian 40 years ago and together they raised 2 beautiful children; Justin and Jenetta, and later welcomed the apple of his eye, granddaughter Carly.

Louis enjoyed life’s simple pleasures; time on the water, in the woods, a good game of darts, a boil up and was always up for a scoff and a cup of tea. A very kind and gentle soul, his family and friends were his life. He loved to socialize, volunteer and was well known as always up to foolishness. Louis was a man of character and strength; the latter was very obvious during his battle with cancer. He will always be remembered as a loving spouse, father, grandfather, brother and friend.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories are his spouse, Lillian; Son: Justin (Julie); Daughter: Jenetta (Reg); Granddaughter: Carly; Brothers: Don (Elva), Eddie (Sharon); Sisters: Joan (Morris), Bonnie (Tim), Angela (Barry), Shirley (Dale), Linda (Jeff); Rhonda (Todd), Bev (Lorne); In-laws: Judy (Wallace), Linda (Terry), Nath (Mona) and Jessie (Eric), as well as a very large circle of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and crew members. And of course, his best bud - his dog Buddie.

Louis is predeceased by his parents Maurice and Theresa, brother Tony, sisters Linda and Bessie and nephew Michael. In-laws Arch and Annie Larkin.

Visitation will take place at the Immaculate Conception Church in Goose Cove beginning on Saturday, November 26, 2022 at 2-4pm and 7-9 pm, and will continue on Sunday, November 27, 2022 at 2-4 pm and family service at 7-9pm. The funeral service will take place on Monday, November 28, 2022 at 11 am at the Immaculate Conception Church in Goose Cove with Fr. George officiating. Cremation to follow.

ALYWARD, THERESA

June 10, 1942 - November 1, 2022

It is with great sadness that the Alyward family announce the passing of Theresa Alyward at The Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 80 years.

Theresa was born on Fishot Island June 10th 1942 to Mary Joe and Maurice Bromley. She married her sweetheart John Alyward in 1961. They had 8 children, 6 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Theresa learned from early on that life is what is what you make of it. Heartbreak and loss taught her to live life to the fullest and take nothing for granted. Hard work = Theresa. If there was work to be done it wouldn't be long until she had it completed. From raising a family, working for 30+ years in the fish plant, fishing, cleaning, laundry and tending to a house full of guests. She was happiest when she was busy and surrounded by family and friends.

Theresa was an avid berry picker and could be found on any bog or hill that she could get to. Often times, she had to retrace her steps in search of her or John's glasses!

Thursday night we knew just where to find Theresa. At the legion in her glee playing bingo with Madeline and her many friends. Sometimes she would win, but most times she lost. But no matter what, she enjoyed herself. If there was a party then Theresa was sure to be there! A wig, costume, hat and a dress would surely appear. Fun, family and foolishness always kept her young at heart and full of life.

She leaves to mourn her Husband, John Alyward; Children, Kevin (Rose), Agnes, Lorraine (Tony), Jim (Sheila); Grandchildren, Bradley (Krista), Quentin (Angie), Scott (Jennifer), Blair (Melissa), Erika (Alexander), Megan; Great Grandchildren, Abby, Paige, Zoey, Celeste, Everleigh, Adelynn, Reid, Gabriel; Siblings, Laura, Ed, Ida, Cyril (Alice), Anna (Patrick); In-laws, Madeline, Patrick (Anna), Wilfred (Anne), Gerald (Virtue), Gary, David (Lawney) as well as a large circle of extended family and friends.

Theresa is predeceased by her Parents, Maurice and Mary Joe; Children, Marguerite, Eric, Joy, Corrine; Siblings, Maurice, Francis, Ronald; In-laws: Theresa, Ignatious, Ann, Leo, Ray; Niece, Shirley.

The Alyward family would like to a special thank you to all who helped alleviate our sorrow. Your kindness and thoughtfulness will always be remembered. Many thanks from the Alyward Family.
