EDDISON, WINNIFRED HAZEL

May 5, 1944 - October 11, 2024

Winnifred Hazel Eddison (nee Young) of Noddy Bay, NL passed away in the presence of her loved ones at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital on October 11, 2024 at the age of 80 years.

Winnie was born in Quirpon to Thomas and Alfreda ( Nee Roberts) Young, Her mom passed away when she was seven years old and she became a mother figure to her brothers that continued throughout her lifetime. She married Wesley Eddison of Noddy Bay on January 24, 1964 and raised five children together. She worked at the fish plant until she had her first battle with cancer. She fought cancer on three occasions but always remained witty and funny throughout it all. She always maintained that moonshine was the best medicine for any and all  illnesses. She will certainly be remembered by her family for her amazing cooking skills, berry picking, knitting and making quilts. Her quilts are in all corners of the world with a few in bed and breakfast businesses on the Northern Peninsula. 

Winnie leaves to Mourn with a lifetime of wonderful memories, her children: Dwayne ( Shirley), Sheldon ( Tracey), Barry ( Kelly) Jackie and Tanya ( David); Sisters: Florence, Nellie and half sister Barbara; Brothers: Lloyd (Joyce), Eric (Moriah), Norman (Glenda), Algie and  half brother Thomas; Brother in law Francis ( Selma) Hedderson. Grandchildren: Marcel, Stefan; April, Alexander, Dayna, Hayward, Erin, Ethan, Amanda, Aaron and 13 great grandchildren. Winnie will also be greatly missed by a large circle of other relatives and close friends. Too many to name but Matilda Pynn, Graham Burden, Hazel Hedderson, Beryl Pilgrim, Karen Patey. Joy Hedderson ( Both of them) , Carl Hedderson ( Her psychiatrist), 10 well fed chickens and the rest of Aunt Blanche's children are a few. 

Winnie was Predeceased by her parents and husband Wesley. Father in law Walter Eddison and Mother in law Victoria ( nee Roberts) Brother in laws Ambrose ( Elsie) Hedderson, Nimrod Hedderson, Stan ( Nellie) Bishop. James ( Flo) Barron. Sister in laws Johanna (Ernest)Hillier, Blanche( Peter) Hedderson, Mary Ann (Israel) Blake  and Sarah Jane ( Willie) Bishop.


Visitation will take place from the Central United Church at Quirpon Branch  on October 14th 2024 at 6-9pm and October 15, 2024 at 1-3pm and 6 to 9pm.  The funeral will take place on  Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Arthur Kinsella officiating. Interment to follow at the Quirpon Cemetery.

PARSONS, RHODA HAZEL (nee Cull)

March 1, 1935 - October 21, 2019

Rhoda Hazel Parsons was born March 1, 1935. To everyone who knew her she was Hazel, to those who held her closest to their hearts she was simply "Mom". Mom's hands were always busy. A lifetime of love and labour were etched into every sinew. They nurtured a family of four and diligently cared for a husband. Mom worked like a Trojan every day, cooked, cleaned, scrubbed, shined and fed whosoever will at her small kitchen table. A creative women by nature, she spent many hours sewing and knitting. She was famous for her quilts, including "the" Christmas Quilt, for which she created her own patterns. Her passion for knitting ensured that many in St. Anthony and beyond had toasty warm hands and feet. Mom was a women with a strong faith, firmly believing the Lord would provide her every need in His time and purpose. Disease may have weakened Mom's physical body but her mind and spirit remained strong and solid. She kept her faith in the One that would see her to her journey's end. On October 21, 2019 at approximately 9:45 am her busy hands became still. Her earthly toil complete "Mom" had entered her eternal rest. Mom will be forever cherished by her children, Phyllis (Ivan), Gail (Mit), Wallace (Maxine), and Penny. Her grandchildren, Sandra, Danielle, Cody, and Jonathan, as well as very special friend Ena Roberts. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Freeman Parsons. Her parents Hayward and Leah Cull. Her brother Augustus and sister Marie. Her in-laws Robert and Beulah, Jehu, Dulcie, and Alfred. Her niece Donna. The funeral service will be held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony, at 2 pm on Saturday October 26, 2019 with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Visitation will on Thursday October 24th, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm and Friday October 25th, 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. GENGE, HAZEL

December 5, 1941 – April 22, 2019

Passed away April 22, 2019 at the Health Science Center in St. Johns at the age of 77 years. She is remembered with love by her family and leaves to mourn with loving memories her Husband of 58 years, Isaac; Children, Juanita (Everett), Eleazor, Gerald (Maunda), Janette (Scott), Ike (Tammy); Grandchildren, Sonya (Donnie), Holly (Pelle), Dylan (Megan), Blayne (Courtney), Stacie (Trav), Richinez, Jolease, Keisha, Logan (Kaitlvn); Great Grandchildren, Annika, Mila, Ashton, Finnley, Caylee, Denver; Sisters and Brothers, Lavenia, Wilfred, Vivian, Winston (Berniece), Gloria (Robin), Stella (Clayton), Rowena (ken), Jim (Betty), Helena (Melvin) as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Hazel was pre-deceased by her Parents William and Kathleen, Sisters Annastasha & Juanita, Mother and Father-in-law, Abraham & Alice and Godchild Patrina. Visitation was held from St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Anchor Point on April 26, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Omar Reyes officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey Funeral Director.

PENNEY, MARIE EMMA

May 26, 1944 – August 1, 2018


On August 1, 2018, Marie passed into the presence of the Lord. Marie was born on May 26th, 1944 to parents Fletcher and Myrtle Weir of Roddickton, NL. After finishing school Marie accepted a job as a Nurse’s Aide with the Roddickton Health Clinic. Marie met the love of her life, Daniel Hodge, in 1963 and married that same year. Marie and Daniel were blessed with 5 children; one boy, Perry, and 4 Girls, Patty, Bonnie, Connie, and Joanne. In 1994 Marie’s Husband, Daniel Hodge, passed into the presence of the One that he loved and served. Then, in 1999 Marie met and married George Penney from Port Hope Simpson, Labrador and she was blessed to have inherited two stepsons (spouses) and 5 stepdaughters (spouses) and grandchildren. Marie and George lived in St. Lunaire-Griquet for a year and then moved to Roddickton where they lived together until her untimely passing. Marie leaves to mourn her Husband, George Penney; Daughter, Pastor Bonnie Hodge – Edmonton, AB; Sisters, Victoria (Gilbert), Madonna (Murray), Glenda (Chris) – Thompson, MB; Brother Pleman; 2 granddaughters, Samantha (Dale) – Ft. Mcmurray, AB, Stephanie (Matt) – Ft. Mcmurray, AB; 2 Great-granddaughters Makayli – Edmonton, Cecilia – Ft. Mcmurray; 1 Great-grandson, Zackary – Ft. Mcmurray, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Marie was predeceased by her first Husband, Daniel Hodge, 4 Children; Perry, Patty, Joanne, and Connie; her parents Fletcher and Myrtle Weir; Brothers Alfred, Kevin, Garland and her Sister Jennie.
