STEVENS, GARFIELD

March 16, 1941 - March 10, 2022

Passed away at the Ivy Durley Place in Flowers Cove on March 10, 2022 at the age of 80 years.

He leaves to mourn, his Children; Monty (Wanda), Michelle (Dione), Marvin (Nancy), Mondale (Clifford), Mia (Ricky); Grandchildren, Shenay, Lanni, DJ, Garfie, Kyle, Jordy, Kol, Bailey, Carter; Greatgrandson Kade; Siblings, Mabel (Michale), Rose (Seward), Jock (Beatrice), Gorvin (Sandra), Daphne (Ernest). He is predeceased by his Wife, Irene Stevens; Parents, Beatrice and Isaac Stevens; Sisters, Mary Campbel, Sarah Fanny Way, Ivy Stevens; Brothers, Arch Stevens, John Stevens, Earl Stevens; and Granddaighter, Miranda Stevens.

A joint funeral will be held for Garfield and his Wife, Irene on Tuesday, March 15, 2022 at 2:00 pm from the Savage Cove Anglican Church with Rev. Short officiating. Interment to follow. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton.

NEWMAN, GARFIELD GILBERT

May 15, 1946 - April 25, 2019

Garfield Newman was born in Great Harbour Deep on May 15, 1946 to Catherine and George Newman. He lived there until they resettled to Englee where he went to school and then on to University where he became a teacher. On November 14, 1975 he married Frances Compton and they settled in Englee where Garfield continued to teach and they raised their family. In March of 1997 he retired from teaching after a 30 year career. Garf enjoyed his retirement working in his garden taking drives and meeting with his friends. He loved and enjoyed his grandchildren and they enjoyed him. Garf became sick this past Fall and entered hospital three weeks ago. He passed peacefully away on the evening of Thursday, April 25, 2019 surrounded by his loved ones. He is survived by his wife Frances, children Lois (Sheldon), Danielle (Barry), Kelly (Steven) and Tyrone (Mandy) as well as his grandchildren Kyle, Dillon, Christopher, Deacon and Katie. He is also survived by his sister Verna (Wayne) as well as his nieces, nephews, sister in law Bernetta Newman, and many other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents George and Catherine Newman as well as his brother Robert. He will be sadly missed. Visitation will be held from The United Church in Englee on Saturday, April 27, 2019 and Sunday, April 28, 2019 with the funeral taking place on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 2:00 pm with Rev. John McGonigle. Interment to follow.

MITCHELMORE, GARFIELD

Passed away peacefully on 23rd of July 2018 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 86. Garfield was born the son of a fisherman in Green Island Cove on January 23, 1932.  He was a man with a strong work ethic whose work life exposed him to a number of diverse industries and took him to all regions of this beautiful Province (Stephenville, La Scie, Gander, Goose Bay, and St. John’s).  His longest period of consecutive employment was 24 years (1966 – 1990) with Ultramar Canada.  He took great pride in ownership of home, property and personal assets.  He was a proud family man and was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Garfield will always be remembered by his loving wife of 58 years Alma; daughter Yvonne (Frank); sons Bob (Fern), Garfield (Pam), Rick and Albert (Cathy); grandchildren Louise, Christa, David, Paul, Adam, Kelly, Brad, Ryan, Kyle, and Lucas; great-grandchildren Haley, Blake, Callie, and Emma; sisters Gladys (George) and Miriam (late Ronald).  Garfield was predeceased by his son David, parents Albert and Mary Ann; brothers George Henry (late Myrtle) and Stewart.

GENGE, GARFIELD

Passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital on the 25th day of February 2015. Mr. Garfield Genge of Anchor Point was in his 79th year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Brother Pierce (wives Stella and Lourie deceased), Sister Joanna (Jacob deceased) Sinnicks, Sister-in-Law Renie (George deceased), many nephews, nieces, and Special Nephew Marvin (Louise) Genge, and a large circle of friends. He was predeceased by his parents Arthur and Sarah, his Siblings Lourie, Rachel, Douglas (Deborah), George, Emmanuel (Dora), and Margaret (Pierce) Sheppard. Visitation was held at the St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in Anchor Point from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 28th day of February 2015 with Rev. Irving Letto officiating. Interment followed in the New Anglican Cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard funeral director.
