It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of John Joseph McCarthy at Curtis Memorial Hospital on March 2nd, 2017 in his 53rd year. John was born to Leonard and Laura McCarthy in St. Juliens, NL on June 2ns, 1963. The family moved to Goose Cove, where John attended St. Mary’s School, and then on to Harriott Curtis Collegiate in St. Anthony where he graduated in 1981. After graduation he fished with his dad and brothers. John fell in love with and married the love of his life, Eileen Alyward. They had two beautiful children, whom he cherished, Jordan and Christine. Just over a year ago they were blessed with their first granddaughter, Mya, whom he adored. He also had a lot of love for his two little furbabies, Pepsy and Rebel. In 2007 John enrolled in a Heavy Equipment Operator Course in Badger and from there was employed with CEDA International in Alberta, where he worked for the past 9 years and met some great friends. John’s greatest passion besides family, was for motorcycles. Over the years, with his wife by his side, had many motorcycle adventures. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Soulmate Eileen, Son Jordan (Chrisoula), Daughter (Christine), and Granddaughter Mya; Sisters Anne (Kevin), Alice (Stephen); Brothers Jerome (Agnes), Ron (Lynn); Mother-in-law (Bernadette) and Father-in-law (Francis) as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents. The cremation memorial service took place in Goose Cove on March 9th, 2017 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Fr. Vitus officiating. TROY, VINCENT LEO
Passed away on July 23, 2016 at the age of 77 years. Vincent was born in Goose Cove, March 4, 1939 to Rita and Peter Troy. He was a very quiet man that was dearly loved by family and friends. Some of his favourite things were playing cards and playing bingo with his friends at the complex, and going for car rides. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He leaves to mourn his Daughters Diane and Carol (Paul); Brothers Mike, Felix (Edna), Garry (Flo); Brother-in-law Will Cull; Sisters Minnie, Gertie (Bax); Sister-in-law Leone; Grandchildren Jason, Kirby, Tyler, and Cooper as well as a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Rita and Peter Troy; Sister Ann Cull; Brother Dennis Troy; and brother-in-law Pat Walsh. Visitation took place at Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St Anthony beginning Sunday, July 24, 2016 and continuing on Monday, July 25, 2016. The Funeral Service was held on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at 2:00 pm from the Roman Catholic Church in Goose Cove with Fr. Vitus Echedo officiating with interment following. RICKS, GERALD DUNCAN
Passed away on June 2, 2016 at the age of 81 years. Gerald Ricks was born on September 3, 1934 in Goose Cove to Frances & Darius Ricks. On October 27, 1958, he married Carmel Bromley and together they raised eleven children. Gerald was a very loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Gerald had a variety of work experiences in his life. They included logging, fishing, carpentry, construction, and heavy equipment operator. He could turn his hand to anything- I guess we would consider him a “jack of all trades.” Gerald had a unique ability to tell stories about things that happened in his life and the many people he met along life’s journey. In his retirement, Gerald enjoyed spending time in his gardens and ski-doing in winter. He loved driving his truck and spending time on the community wharf. He also loved his “morning meetings” in Edward Reardon’s stage. As well, he always looked forward to visiting his sister, Angela and husband Ron every Sunday morning. In 2003, Gerald met Juanita Powell and for the past 13 years have had a very happy and fulfilled life together. He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends. He leaves to mourn his Children Nellie, Judy (Cyril), Philomena (Ralph), Joyce, Sharon (Steve), Daphne, Geraldine (Todd), Ross (Melissa), Roy (Treena), Ron (Heather), Robert; Partner Juanita and her children Todd and Marilyn; 19 Grandchildren; 3 Great- Grandchildren; his lovable buddy Wince, and a large circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his wife Carmel, parents Darius & Francis Ricks; Brother Ron; Sisters Eileen and Theresa; Son-in-law Bill; and Grandson Justin. Visitation was held a Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral was held in the Roman Catholic Church in Goose Cove at 11:00 am on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 with Fr. Vitus Echedo officiating. Interment followed. Passed peacefully away at the Western Memorial Regional Health in Corner Brook on Jan.24th 2015. Mr. Harold Bromley of Fish Head Island was in his 74th year. Leaving to mourn one Son Darrin (Debbie) three grandchildren, Corey, Travis, and Kindra. He was predeceased by his Mom and Dad Rose and Arthur Bromley, Sister Mary and brother in law Herbert and niece Rose. Visitation was held at the St. Edwards church Grandois, from which the funeral Mass was held at 11:00am on Thursday the 29th of January 2015 with Fr. Vitus Echedo officiating. Passed away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony after a heroic battle with illness, Mr. Wilbert (Bill) Anthony Ward, in his 53rd year. Bill leaves behind hes dear wife Joyce, his son Tyler, daughters Robbi-lyn (Sheldon), Hillary (Adam), his mother Johanna, brothers Gerard (Jeanie), Cyril (Judy), Jerome (Shirley), Ed, Ray, Clarence (Trina), Wayne, Clyde, Carl, Dale, Sisters Clara (Allan), Alice (Keith), Lisa (Dave), as well as a vary large circle of family and friends. while not advanced in years, bill still lived to see the loss of his father Felix, brother Ron and Mother in law Carmel. Visitation was held at the Funeral home in St. Anthony, followed by the funeral service, which took place at the Church of the immaculate Conception in Goose Cove at 2:00pm on Wednesday September 10th with Farther Vitus Echedo officiating.
