MYERS, GERARD JOSEPH

Gerard Joseph Myers, 63, of Bird Cove, NL, passed away on September 4, 2024 in Bird Cove.

Gerard was born in Bird Cove to Uriah & Alice Myers on July 6, 1961. He went to high school at St. Augustine’s Central High and graduated in 1980. He went on to earn a degree at the College of Trades and Technology in 1981. He enjoyed many hobbies including rebuilding his corvette, playing darts, carpentry, and most of all his music. Gerard was a very avid musician and composed and wrote his own music. He played many instruments including an acoustic and electric guitar, piano, harmonica and so forth.

Gerard is survived by his siblings: Catherine (Stan), Jean (Jimmy), Hughie (Sheila), Mike (Irene). Bernice (Stewart), Geraldine (Moses), Philomena (Larry), Leon (Darlene),and David, nieces and nephews: Chad (Chantal, Cole, Caylee), Joan (Simon, Brandon (Michelle, Dominic, Octavia, Avery) TJ), Scott (Devina), Marilyn (Toby, Braydon), Della (Murray, Natalie, Alexis, Aleah), Lionel (Denita), Tracy (Alyssa, Ashley), Andre (Nathan, Michael, Milan), Lisa (Bernie, Sasha, Patrick, Somea, Pierson), Quentin (Amanda, Kobi, Jayla), Travis (Betty, Daniel, Matthew, Benjamin), Gino, Robyn(Adam, Aliya, Caden), and Allan (Kayla, Mason, Marcus).

He is preceded in death by his father, Uriah Myers, mother, Alice Myers, sister, Joanna Myers, brother, Patrick Myers, brother-in-law, Mike Pittman, sister-in-law, Annette Myers, and nephews, Mario and Damian Mahar. MYERS, GERALDINE MARY (Nee Caines)

May 31, 1945 - July 27, 2024

A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.  

It is with great sadness, that the family of the Geraldine Myers (nee Caines) announce her passing on July 27, 2024 at Rufus Guinchard Health Care Center. 

Geraldine was born and raised in Bartlett’s Harbour, where she married and had her family. Geraldine loved to be busy, if she wasn't cooking or cleaning you could be sure to find her on Jacks mesh picking berries or in the Bread Pan making her famous homemade bread. She had a deep love for  music, playing cards, bingo and in later years- evening drives. 

She leaves with found and loving memories her Sons: Marcell (Donna) Myers, Howard Sr (Margaret) Myers, Dan (Colleen) Myers and Daughter: Earline Parsons; Her Grandchildren: Kevin Bruce, Sidney Myers, Cynthia Chafe, Chelsea Myers, Ann (Kris) Reid, Howard (Deanna) Myers, Brandon (Savannah) Myers, Sara (Ashley Miller) Myers, Hannah Myers, Adam Myers, Danielle Parsons & Hilary Parsons; Her Great-Grandchildren: Ryder Bruce, Ava & Norah Myers, Jacob & Mason Chafe, Joan Myers, Scarlett & Piper Myers, Miley & Blade Myers and Elliott Myers.

Many thanks to her devoted care givers over the years, but in recent years the staff at Rufus Guinchard Healthcare Center. From the nursing staff, kitchen staff, housekeeping, laundry, ambulance staff- if there was music playing you could at any time find one of them dancing with her. You all loved her so much and made her smile whenever you could. We thank each and everyone of you for your devoted dedication to not only your work but your love for your family in Long Term Care.

Her smile will be missed by many but she was loved by all. 

Visitation to take place at Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church- Bartlett’s Harbour on Tuesday, July 30, 2024 from 6-9 pm, Wednesday, July 31, 2024 will be open with the family service taking place at 7:00 PM. The funeral will take place on Thursday, August 1, 2024 at 3:00 PM with Fr. Rossi officating. Interment to follow at the Roman Catholic Cemetery in Bartlett’s Harbour.

MAHAR, KAREN

Passed away surrounded by her loved ones, Karen Mahar, age 59 of Bird Cove NL at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s on the 20th of June, 2023.
Left to mourn her passing are her husband Terrance, mother Helena, brother Fonse (Stella), sister in laws Ellen (Tony), Jean, Noreen, Josephine (Riley), Monica (Percy), Mary (Danny), brother in laws Joe (Darlene), Hiram (Mathilda), Wade (Judy), Dennis (Wanda). As well as her nieces and nephews Tim (Yvette, Luke, Ara), Karen (Paul, Xander, Evie), Tammy (John, Owen and Liam), Jamie (Laurel, Sophia), Roxane (Danny), Justin (Stacey, Avery, Craig), Edgar (Stacey), Bradley (Chad), Raelene )Jamie, Sophie, Claire), Sandy (Alicia, Lux), Stacy (Ayeshea, Brody), Jenny (Marty, Carter, Kenzie), Jessica (Jamie, Jade, Jack), Andy, Joanne (Kyle, Ava, Hailey), Paul’s Children (Camron, Emily, Raina, Zander, Zaiden). Visitation is being held at the Our Lady Of Grace Church in Bird Cove Beginning Friday June 23rd, from early evening until 9pm, Saturday 9am to 9pm with a Rosary Service at 7pm, Sunday visitation from 1pm to 9 pm with a Family Service at 7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Monday, June 26th, 2023 with Farther Rossi officiating. Cremation will follow the funeral service with burial to be announced later.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Peter Joseph Caines announce his passing at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, Palliative Care Unit, St. Anthony at the age of 84 years. Peter leaves to mourn his loving wife, Semonne, of 66 years; 6 sons, Angus (Lily), Jim (Lily), Romie (Agnes), Percy (Monica), Levi (Priscilla), and Blaise (Kim); 3 daughters, Rita (Woody), Annette (Prim), and Helena (Craig). His brothers Austin, Pat (Melena), Romeo (Whilomena), Don (Maxine), his sister Josephine (Martin), and his sister-in-law Stella Caines (Ray). He will be sadly missed by his 17 grandchildren, Miranda (Toma), Murray, Enis (Andrea), Jamie (Kim), Andy, Kimberly (Shannon), Joanne (Kyle), Jason (Alex), Jeremy (Amanda), Deanna (Gary), Shauna (Cody), Gina, Mark (Shantel), Felicia (Dylan), Selena (Darren), Mia (Colton), and Magen (Luca) and 14 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Ethan, Ella, Michael, Milan, Jada, Jorja, Hailey, Ava, Taylor, Kai, Kiyomi, Harper, and Levi Jr., as well as a large circle of family and friends.

Peter is pre-deceased by his parents (Raymond and Rita), brother Ray (Stella), sister-in-law Alics (Austin), and great-grandchild Baby Jay (Felicia and Dylan).

The family would like to express our sincere thanks for the loving care given by his home care workers and health care staff at the palliative care unit in St. Anthony as well as the health care staff at the Strait of Belle Isle Health Centre in Flower’s Cove.

It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Edmund John Tatchell announce his passing on March 31, 2023, at Charles S Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.

Edmund is forever loved by his wife Angela of 33 years, Children Thomas Tatchell (Brenda),Wendy (Matthias) Osborne, Grandchildren Thomas, Natalie, Jackson, Cadence, Adaisha, Mother in law Roseanne Tatchell , Godchildren Edmund Tatchell and Celista Tatchell, and special Nephew Brian Evans. Sisters Irene (Frank) Rumbolt, Winnifred (Anthony) Tatchell, Brothers William Tatchell, Alonzo (Lucy) Tatchell, Vince Tatchell, Patrick (Denise) Tatchell, Sister in laws Millicent, Amy, Vivian (Brent), Carmelita (Kevin), Brother in law Nelson (Tracey). Along with a large circle of Nieces, Nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and Friends.

Edmund was predeceased by his parents Patrick Tatchell and Mary M Tatchell (Lawless). Father In Law Thomas (Tom) Tatchell, Sisters in Law Marion and Dulcie, Brother Gordon Tatchell, Sisters Mary Tatchell and Elizabeth Tatchell and his beloved Granddaughter Octavia Osborne.

Visitation is being held at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic Church in Castor River North form Monday April 3rd, 2023 through to the Funeral Mass at 11am on Thursday April 6th, 2023 with Fr. BURKE, ALICE MARY

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Alice (Allie) Burke announce her passing at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre on March 8th, 2023 at the age of 81 years.

Alice was a quiet woman who was kind to everyone she met. She loved her family dearly and worked hard outside and inside the home to provide a good life for her children. Allie was a dedicated mom who always gave her time to her children and grandchildren; teaching them to cook, bake, knit, etc. One of her greatest pastimes was playing cards with her family and friends; many a laugh was had when someone laid down their hand unexpectedly. She loved company and was so pleased whenever visitors dropped by. She always had something sweet in the cupboard to offer her guests with a good cup of tea. She loved God and was an active member of the Flower’s Cove Catholic Church Women, helping out wherever needed.

She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her Children: Shirley (Brian) Burke, Lorna (Sterling) Burke, Alex (Sheri-lynn) Burke, Donna (Dean) Sheppard; Grandchildren: Jordan Burke, Jessica (Jeffrey) Fowler, Kele Dawe, Darien Dawe, Nicholas Burke, Delaney Burke, Madeleine Sheppard; Great-grandchild, Allie Fowler; Siblings: Ellis (Millie) Lavallee, Jerome Lavallee, Adrienne (Lavina) Lavallee, Bernice Lavallee, Dora Lavallee, Rita Letemplier as well as nieces, nephews; Great-aunts: Dorine Labadie, Geraldine Jones; Sister-in-law: Millie Carnell; and Brother-in-law: Bryant (Doreen) Burke.

January 24, 1934 – January 11, 2023

Heaven welcomed the most cherished woman who graced many lives with her love, laughter and especially her hugs. She loved her family deeply especially her children and her adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Burke, Mary Alice (nee Mahar) – Passed away at the age of 88 years old surrounded by her loving family members at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre, Port Saunders. Predeceased by her parents, Ambrose and Mary Mahar, her parent in-laws William and Julia Ann Burke, husband Patrick Burke, daughters Bernice LaVallee, Annette Myers and Baby Anne, sons Clarence Burke and Terrance Burke, son- in-laws Rick LaVallee and Winston Coles, grandson Nigel, great-granddaughter Ava Bee Pynn, sister Agnes and brothers Luke, Ambrose, and Joseph, sister in-laws Nellie and Marjorie, and brother in-laws Stan, Jim, Will, Ben and Clar. Our mother was one of the strongest, bravest, and kindest humans to grace this planet. We wouldn't be the people we are, and we wouldn't have the life we have without her. Our mother was an inspirational and kind person. Her home was open to everyone, and she always made everyone feel welcome and important. She was the most loving, compassionate, understanding, family-orientated woman and one of the most beautiful souls one could ever meet. She always gave the very best hugs.

Mom, you were a beautiful gift from God with all the love and caring that you possessed. You touched our hearts in so many ways. Even on dark days, your strength and smile made us realize we had an angel beside us. We are going to miss you so much. To the world, you were one person, but to us, you were the world. We will always hear your voice and laughter and feel your sweet kisses and the warmest hugs. You will forever live in our hearts. Thank you, mom, for all the beautiful memories and everything you did for us. We will always love you!

There will a private family burial service, date and time to be announced. A memorial service in our mother’s honour will take place at a later date in Flower’s Cove.

PITTMAN, PRIMUS PATRICK

PRIMUS PATRICK PITTMAN, age 91 years, of Bird Cove, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on September 9, 2022. Primus was born to James and Theresa Pittman on September 20, 1930. He married the love of his life Irene Gould On August 13, 1955. Together the happy couple live their entire life in their hometown of Bird Cove where they raised their family of four daughters and five sons.

Primus was a very hard worker all his life. He was a well respected carpenter, fisherman and woodsman and done anything necessary to provide a good life for his wife and children, who were his pride and joy. It was evident how much he loved his family in the way he spoke their names and the stories he would tell.

He will be greatly missed by his children; Desmond (Tammy), Dennis (Janet), Sharon (David), Primus (Annette), Nellie (Wally), Theresa(Prim), Lilly (Angus) and Thomas (Ciara); his grandchildren and great grandchildren Murray, Kimberly, Brock, Wesley, Ashley, Brandon, Jeremy, Felicia, Danan, Garfield, Lytora, Colton, Braden, Brianna, Cody, Jada, Jorja, Taylor, Jackson, Emily, Katie and Hailey.

He is predeceased by his wife Irene, son Martin, grandsons Anson and Josh and great grandson Jay , his parents James and Theresa and all of his siblings (as Primus was the last living member of his family).

The family would like to send special thanks to some special people. First to his grandson Murray who cared for his grandfather for many years. Murray, you did an awesome job and we are all so grateful for what you did. We knew that he was never alone and was happy to have you with him. He loved you so much. To Lilly and Angus who welcomed him into your home when he was unable to stay in his, that meant so much to all of us, thank you so much. His home care workers Theresa and Jordan, you two did an awesome job and made sure that his every need was met. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

JONES, BERNARD S.

June 23, 1945 – August 25, 2022 

Bernard was born on the Grey Islands to Benedict and Susan Jones on June 23, 1945. Bern moved to Lewisporte when he was 15, and later moved to Croque where he met and married Josephine McGrath, whom he would spend the rest of his life, and raise a family together. 

He will be forever loved and sadly missed by his wife of 57 years (Josephine), his daughters Bernice, Louise (George), Bertha, Sharon (Eddie), Sherry, and grandson Travis;  his brothers Len and Bob, and sisters Evelyn and Nora, as well as a large circle of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved.  

Bern was predeceased by his loving parents Benedict and Susan Jones, and brothers George, Jim and Fred.  

The family would like to send a thank you to those who helped in any way, and especially to all the staff at John M Gray, who treated him with such love and care during his time there.

BROMLEY, ANNE FRANCES

August 16, 1935 - August 1, 2022

Anne was born in Conche to Peter and Adell Casey on August 16, 1935. Anne went to Fishot Island in 1955 where she met and married the love of her life, Ed Bromley on Nov 12, 1957. In 1970 they moved to Goose Cove where they raised their children.

She will be forever loved and sadly missed by her husband of 65 years (Edward Bromley); her daughters Adell (Lorne Carter), Michelle (John Williams), Mary (Leonard Alyward); her sons, Eugene, Sean (Regina Byrne), and Cory (Susan McDonald); her sisters, Mary (Ed Blanchard) as well as a large circle of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews that she dearly loved.

Anne was predeceased by her loving parents Adell and Peter Casey; Brothers, Steven, Tom and Jim; Daughters, Clara and Bernadine; Great-granddaughter Emily.
