EARLE, EVERETT RONALD

February 17th, 1930 – July 1st, 2019

Everett married Lucy Compton on January 3, 1952, together they raised 6 children. Everett began working for Ford Elms at the young age of 16. He continued to work with Stephen and Gwen Knudsen after Ford retired. He did maintenance and repairs around the store and other properties, along with loading and unloading fish, truck driving, picking up building supplies in Corner Brook, delivering seal pelts to Dildo. Even driving the snowmobile in the winter taking Police, nurses and doctors to the surrounding communities. He continued to work there until his stroke in 1987. He worked hard to provide for his family. He also liked to build things, from houses to furniture and even a few boats. Even though he worked a lot, he found time for his family, taking the kids ice fishing, trout fishing, boil ups and cooking fishermen's brews over the open fire and even Sunday afternoon drives. Sunday mornings he would go to church, taking the kids with him, while Lucy would stay home and cook dinner. He would take the kids back for Sunday School and when picking them up after, all the kids that could would get in the back of the truck for a ride home, (he had one of the first trucks in the community). After his stroke, with the love and encouragement of his wife, Lucy, he continued to build things, toys, furniture and models for his grandchildren and do some maintenance around the house. He also loved his puzzles, putting together more than a hundred over the last few years. He also like to ride his stationary bike, wearing out two. He was a quiet and patient man who never complained. He will be remembered in love, and missed by his family. Everett leaves to mourn his Wife, Lucy Earle; Sons, Boyce (Judy), Wayne (Marilyn). Todd (Sandra); Daughters, Jean (Renato), Joyce (Len), Coleen (Wade); Brother, Hector (Jean); Brother-in-laws, Harvey (Lizzie), Ralph (Evelyn); Sister-in-laws, Velma Earle, Beatrice Compton; as well as 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and a large circle of other relatives and close friends. Everett was predeceased by his parents, Heman and Edith Earle; Brothers, Thomas, George, Douglas, Cecil; Sisters, Lucy, Annie, Stella. Visitation was held from the Calvary Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire-Griquet on July 4th, 2019 with Pastor Bill Harnum officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Alicia Patey, Funeral Director.

BLAKE, EVERETT

Passed away December 26th, 2017 from the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 91 years. According to the Government, Everett was born in Spillard’s Cove (now called Straitsview) on September 22nd, 1926. However, it is more likely that he had been born a year earlier (in 1925). The Government decision was based on Census information, because birth records had been lost- perhaps because of fire. This decision was made when Everett was well on in life, as is often the case when birth records have been lost. Everett set his hand to whatever work was available. He fished, hunted, and trapped. During the winter, he was busy knitting and mending cod traps. He became a good carpenter and built a number of schools and many homes. On Sundays, he walked down to the Church and rang the bell (which meant that all the children went off to Sunday school). It was when Everett had went to Raleigh to fish that he met Jessie Bessey. The two celebrated 65 years of marriage together. They grew a new branch of the Blake family tree which now includes nearly four dozen descendants. He leaves to mourn his wife, Jessie Blake; Sons, Dennis (Donna), Garry (Betsy), Cyril, and Hedley; Daughters, Cindy (Jim), Dale, and Velma (Barry); Brother Wilson; Sister-in-law Marie (Widow of Brother Garfield) as well as 14 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren, and a large circle of extended family and friends. Everett was predeceased by his parents, James and Martha Blake; Brothers, Isaac, Ruben, Garfield, and Harrison as well as Sisters, Lucy, Mary Evelyn, and Rosie. Visitation was held from the United Church in Raleigh from where the funeral service was held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 30th, 2017 with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.
