REARDON, DONALD ALBERT

December 31, 1952 - October 31, 2023

Donald Albert Reardon passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s on October 31, 2023 in his 70th year.

Don was a hard worker who fished for all his life from a very young age. He loved the simple things; his family, music, his gardens, his cat DW, and his beautiful home of Sou West. He was dearly loved and will be missed for eternity.

He leaves to mourn, his wife, Bridget; Daughter: Victoria (Tim); Sons: Colin (Ayala), Cory (Alex), Randy (Melanie); Grandchildren: Dawn, Dillyn, Dominick, Daniel, Jenna, Chloe, Alexis, Michael, Jeremy; Great-grandchild: Damien; Siblings: Jack (Emma), Cassie (Ross), Bridget, Nell, Linda (Craig) and his brother and best buddy- Wins; as well as a large circle of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents: Maurice and Jenette Reardon; Sisters: Caroline, Diane, and Anastasia; and Brother: Cyril.

Visitation will take place from Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church in Croque on Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5, 2023. A Rosary and Remembrance will be held at the Church on Sunday, November 5 at 7:00 pm with the funeral service to take place on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 11:00 am with Fr. George officiating. Interment to follow.

JACOBS, DONALD GREY

June 4, 1932 - October 9, 2023

Donald Grey Jacobs was born on June 4, 1932 to James & Violet Jacobs of Hampden, NL. He was one of 15 children that completed the family. At the age of 8, Donald & the Jacobs family moved to Roddickton. As a young man, he met Clarice Compton, whom he married on June 27, 1953. From their marriage, 5 children were born.

During his earlier years, Donald worked as a logger, then was employed as a mechanic with the local Dept. of Highways - from which he retired after 26 years of service. Following retirement, he continued to work with  Canada Bay Construction in Roddickton, with his long time fellow worker, Willis Hancock. He also continued to do repairs for local residents on their engines & motors. Donald seemed to have a deep & loving fascination with motors of any kind... whether new or Antique! His yard captured the attention of many visitors and tourists to Roddickton because of the various motors on display. Although he shared stories of the hardships of working as a logger, he enjoyed cutting firewood until his early 80's.

Donald passed peacefully away on Monday, October 9th at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Clarice; children- Clyde (Karen), Wavey (Wilfred), Sharon (Allan) and Lori (Andrew);  9 grandchildren & 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings- Edna (Jacobs), Calvin, Winston, Ellis, McKinley & Hilda (Canning).

He is predeceased by infant son George & grandson Robert; and siblings: Ellen (Pittman), Wilfred, Claude, Llewellyn, Harold, Rudy (Fillier), Murray & Ross.

Visitation will take place from the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton, on Thursday, October 12, 2023 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. The funeral will take place from the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton on Friday, October 13, 2023 at 11:00 am with Pastor Chris Hewlett officiating. Interment to follow.

POWELL, DONALD

February 14th, 1941 - April 20th, 2023 

It is with great sadness that the family of  Donald Powell announce his passing on April 20th, 2023 at Curtis Memorial Hospital, in St. Anthony, Newfoundland.

Donald was born February 14th 1941 to Albert and Sarah Powell. At a young age, he moved to St. Anthony to further his education. He began his career working with Labrador-Grenfell Health for 33 years. On May 7th, 1977 he married Emma Joan Colbourne of St. Anthony where they settled down to raise their family. 

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 45 years, Joan, 5 children, Bary Colbourne (Gaye), Natasha Sharpe (Anders), Brad Powell (Melanie), Janene Powell (Carey) and Dana Powell (Emily), 7 grandchildren, Christopher and Cameron, Sarah, Matthew and Ryan, and Nikolas and Dylan, and one great grandchild,  Madison. 

He also leaves to mourn his sisters, Sadie, Lydia and Gertie. He was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Sarah, his siblings, Alfred, Hedley, Melvin, Gordon and Beulah, and special niece, Donna.

WAY, DONALD

November 2, 1950 – March 25, 2021 

It is with great sadness that we, the family of the Don Way, Flower’s Cove announce his passing on the evening of March 25, 2021 at the age of 70 years.  He leaves behind his son Ramsey (Lisa) and daughter Trudy (Shannon), his brothers Alvin (Vera), Bruce (Sandra) and Lewis (Marina), sister in laws Thamsie, Gloria (Nelson), Elva and Lynn, grandchildren Theo, Lily, Claire and special friend Shelia.  As well he leaves behind many special nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Don was a man loved by many with friends far and wide.  Please think of him with a smile to celebrate his life. He is predeceased by wife Ann, son Perry, father Max, mother Mable, brother Angus, father in law Theophilus, mother in law Millie, and bother in law Harvey. Funeral details will follow and will be restricted to invite only as a result of COVID 19 restrictions.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House in St. John’s.       

BOYD, DONALD GLENN

August 3, 1950 - March 3, 2020
Passed March 3, 2020 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 69 years. Donald was born on August 3, 1950 as a twin to Dale Boyd, he grew up in St. Anthony. At the age of 12 he started in the band “Snowflakes” for 10 years. He went on to trade school to follow in his Father’s footsteps and became a journeyman in refrigeration. In 1981 he moved to Calgary and worked for the City of Calgary until he retired in 2005. He returned to St. Anthony with his wife, Gloria after retirement. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, His Sons, Joe Boyd (Shannon), Shawn Patey (Corrine), Ed Patey (Beverly); Daughter, Mel Christen (Dan); Grandchildren, Keavey, Avery, Hayley, Max; Great-grandchild, Harley; Siblings, Rosalind, Eric, Dale, and Roger as well as a circle of extended family and friends. Don was predeceased by his wife, Gloria and Parents, Eric Joseph Harvey Boyd and Cecelia Boyd. No public visitation. The funeral will be held on Saturday, March 14th, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Deacon Arthur Kinsella officiating. Inurnment to take place at a later date. Donations of flowers are not accepted at this time.

POWELL, DONALD LEWIS

October 28, 1979 - October 25, 2018

“Donny” passed away on October 25th, 2018 at the age of 38 years. “Mr. Donald Powell” was a special child to proud parents Walter and Josephine. He was the third child, and brother to Pansy and Frank. Don was a member of a very large and loving family. He was special not only to family, but to numerous friends, neighbours and strangers. He was a friend to everyone he met. All of the community of St. Anthony and area knew him well. A wave, a smile and an excited greeting was for everyone. Left to mourn, with many fond Memories: His Mom, Josie; His Sister Pansy (Dave) and His Brother Frank (Lee); His Nephews Mitchell and Matthew; His Niece Erika; His Uncle Ray and His Cousin Donna along with so many friends! Donald was predeceased by his Dad (Walter). Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home in St. Anthony. The funeral took place on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the United Church in St. Anthony with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Interment and a parade followed. Passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on February 22, 2017 at the age of 69 years. He leaves with a lifetime of memories his wife of 48 years- Linda; children Kim (Darryl), Lon (Yvette), Rodney (April); Grandchildren Ian, Owen, Boyd, Kyle, Chloe, and Sophie; Mother-in-law Dulcie Genge; Brothers, Sisters, and in-laws, Gorvin and family, Shirley (Frank) and family, Clyde and family, George (Chris) and family, Sadie and family, Greg (Dawn) and family, Mary Ann, Carole, Bertha (Doug) and family, Hilda (Eddie) and family; nephews Peter, Philip (and families); niece Diane as well as a large circle of Aunts, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents John and Hazel Way; Father-in law Ronald Genge; Sisters Eileen Churchill and Olive way; and Brother-in-laws Art Churchill and Tony Genge. Visitation took place from St. Mark's Anglican Church in Savage Cove beginning on Thursday March 9th 2017 continuing until the funeral at 2:00 pm on March 10, 2017 with Rev. Omar officiating. SAMSON, DONALD HIRAM

Passed Away into peace in the comfort of his home, surrounded by his loving family, Mr. Donald Hiram Samson Jr. of Brig Bay on the 1st of November 2014, in his 60th year. Left Mourning with heavy hearts are his dear wife Myrtle and Son Mitchel (Gina), brother Maitland, Sisters Sheila (Wallace), Rose (Paul), Amanda (Claude) and Colette (Dave), Parents in Law Stedman and Alma Genge, Brothers in law Claude (Daphney), Henry (Marion), Harvey, Lavina), Roy (Priscilla), Stedman (Karen) sister in law Nancy (Pat), Neices and Nephews Sheldon (Marilyn), Philip (Terri), Kelly (Scott), Sean (Sasha), Nicolas, Aaron, Russ, Jillian, Dwayne (Tina), Claude JR. (Alva), Tyrone (Joanne), Maurice (Melissa), Tobi (Bud), Jordan (Jessica), Candice, Natasha, Tyler and Christopher (Effie). Great Nieces Bryanna, Victoria and Mackenzie, Great Nephews Austin, Nichalos, Brode, Jarred, Sheldon (Kayla). Despite his young age, Donald lived to see the passing of his parents Rowena and Donald Sr. and his sister in law Marilyn.  Visitation was held at the Church of the Advent in Plum Point, from which the funeral service took place at 2:00pm on Tuesday November 4th with Rev. Harold Harvey Officiating. Burial followed the Service at the Pond Cove Anglican Cemetery. In lieu of Flowers, Memorial donations can be made to The Church of The Advent Box 75, Plum Point NL.
