COLBOURNE, WINSTON WHYMAN

It is with great sadness that the family of Winston Whyman Colbourne announce his passing on Saturday, February 10th of 2024 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in his 80th year.

Winston Whyman was born on October 9, 1943 to Harvey and Maude(Bartlett) Colbourne of L’Anse Aux Meadows. He was the oldest of 11 Children. He spent most of his life fishing and working, where he made many friends along the way. He met the love of his life, Eliza (Tucker) and they married on December 22, 1963. Together they had three children, Whyman, Irene and Robert. He was also blessed with three grandchildren Jillian, Christopher and Christa, as well as three great-grandsons Liam, Jack and Ben, who he loved dearly.

Winston leaves to mourn, his wife Eliza, daughter Irene (Cliff), granddaughters Jillian (Andrew) and Christa, great-grandsons Liam, Jack and Ben, sisters Emma and Hazel, brothers Goward, Clayton and Lester, mother-in-law, Delilah, as well as a large circle of family and friends.

He was pre-deceased by his parents, Harvey and Maude, sons Whyman and Robert, daughter-in-law Diane, grandson Christopher, brothers Clifford, Wayne and Harvey, sisters Faye and Selma, and father-in-law Selby.

Visitation to take place from the Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home in St. Anthony beginning on Monday February 12th from 7 to 9 pm with a funeral service at 2pm on Tuesday February 13th from the Bethel Pentecostal Church with Pastor Jeff Elliott officiating. Cremation to follow with burial to take place at later date.

HOSTETTER, JEANETTE MAE

Jeanette Hostetter was born on February 14, 1932 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. She grew up there and received her education. After completing high school she entered nurses training graduating as a Registered Nurse. In 1957 she came to work here in St. Anthony at the IGA hospital. She worked here, leaving for a short time and returning in the early 1960's, working again in the hospital where she completed her nursing career. Jeanette worked in a variety of positions from head nurse to finally working as the eye clinic nurse. Jeanette was a faithful member St. Anthony First United Church as well as the UCW and the Curtis Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed travelling and keeping in touch with her friends and keeping abreast of current events. On January 30th she passed peacefully away at the Curtis Memorial Hospital. She is survived by her niece Sharon Fox her nephew Stephen Hostetter, as well as many colleagues and friends. She will be sadly missed. A Memorial Service for Janette was held at Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home in St. Anthony at 2:00 pm on Monday February 14th, 2022 with Rev. John McGonigle Officiating, burial service will take place at a later date in her home town in Pennsylvania USA.

 

McGRATH, MILDRED BRIDGET

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray Center in the presence of her family on June 6th, 2021 Mildred B. McGrath (Nee Woodford) of Conche, Age 98. Mildred loved to spend time in her vegetable garden and to pick berries. she had a great sense of humor which gave many people good laughs. Leaving to mourn and celebrate her life are her children Mary (Aiden) Moriarty, Aloysius (Elizabeth), Gerry (Barbara), Zita (Wallace) Budgell, Florence (John) Murphy, Paul (Pauline), Bride (Ralph) Smith, Jackie (Darrell) Comeau. Grandchildren Michael, John Louis, Lisa, Matt, T.J., Candace, Amanda, Ryan, Sean, Sarah, Karl, Brian, Cindy, Marilu, Jonathan, Steve, Angela and Lynnette. 14 great grandchildren, as well as a circle of nieces, nephews and good friends. Mildred was predeceased by her husband Jack, Parents William and Alice Woodford (Nee Joy), Her sisters Mary, Maria, and Eileen, Brothers Mick and Jim.
the family extends a special thank you to the staff at both Shirley’s haven and the John M. Gray Center, Where mom was a resident for 10 years, Memorial donations can be made to the Conche cemetery fund. A Funeral mass will take place at the Sacred Heart Church in Conche at a later date.

CHAULK, CHRIS DAVID JOHN

Chris was born in Deer Lake on November 10th 1957. In 1974 he moved to St. Anthony to live with his brother Gary and his wife Madonna. It was in St. Anthony that he met the love of his life Gertie and together they had one daughter Kristie. They married on November 20th, 1976. Chris worked at Varies Jobs until 1982, when he went to work with Maurice’s Service Center as a Truck driver. He remained there for 33 years. He served with the local fire dept. for 35years in various rolls. Most of all, Chris enjoyed spending time at his camper fishing, hunting, picking berries and enjoying nightly campfires with his wife Gertie and buddies Stan and Donna. He was a man of few words but he loved to sit and listen to others with a grin. Left to mourn the loss of Chris form their lives are his wife Gertie, Daughter Kristie, Fur Buddie Jack, Brothers Gary (Madonna) and Phillip, sister Cora (Frank), sister in laws Audrey (Joe), Donna (Stan), Linda (Rafe), Rosemary, Nieces and nephews Dawn (Eddie); Mike (Nivose); Jerry (Tina); Melissa; Dan; Julia (Guy), Chris (Tammy); Rochelle (Andy); Cory (Shelley); Deana (Rol); Gina (Brad); Sandy (Ivan); Heather (Trevor); and Families, as well as a large group of Family and Friends. Though a young man, Chris lived to see the passing of his mother Brada, Father Sterling, Brother Tony, and Mother in law Mary Fillier, Big Nan Lavinia Fillier and Brother in Law Wilbourne Fillier. Visitation was held at the Funeral home in St. Anthony on Tuesday November 24th, from which the funeral service was held on Wednesday November 25th with Major Baggs Officiating. Donations in Memory of Chris Can be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.

WHITE, NOAH MAXWELL

Passed away on July 31, 2015, Noah White, in his 63rd year. Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories wife Gladys; son Michael (Ashley); Grandchildren Breah, Kylen; mother Dulcie; brothers Curling (Wanda), Jim (Marlene); sisters Olga (Wayne), Marion Ann (Lyman); nephews Dwayne, Ramsey, Ricky, Andrew, Andy; uncle Jimmy (Belinda); aunts Ann and Velma as well as a circle of family and friends. He was predeceased by his father Curling and brother Ramsey. Visitation took place at St. Thomas Anglican Church in Sandy Cove from where the funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday August 4, 2015 with Rev. Marlene Harvey officiating. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, funeral director.

COLBOURNE, RALPH ELDRED

 passed peacefully away on May 27th, 2015 in his 74th year surrounded by his loving family Mr. Ralph E. Colbourne of St Anthony.  He leaves to mourn his loving wife of 55 years Laverne & six children, Glenn(Joan), June (Wade),Yvonne(David), Lawney (David),Todd (Carolyn)and Brad(Sherry)& Grandchildren Shannon(Karie), Blair, Stefan(Danielle) Rodi(Amanda), Marquita(Ken), Kurtis( Robyn), two special foster children, Justin & Sherry-Lynn, and one great grandchild, Riley, sister Velma, brother Roy(Judy), sister-in-laws & brother-in-laws, nephews and nieces and a special (Buddy), Randy Pittman. Predeceased by his parents-Roderick and Lucy Colbourne, and Sisters Hazel, Dorothy and father -in-law, Mother-in-law William and Gladys Allingham and a special Aunt Ethel Bussey. Visitation took place at the funeral home in St. Anthony, After which the funeral service was held at the St. Anthony United Church in St. Anthony at 11:00am on the 30th of may, 2015 with Rev. Dinesh Gomes officiating. Cremation followed with burial on Tuesday June 2nd at 9:30am   Funeral Arangments where entrusted to Kerry M. WHITE, ABSALOM

Passed peacefully away at the John M. Gray center in St. Anthony on the 16th Day of March, 2015, Mr. Absalom White of Reef's Harbour in  his 73rd year. Left to mourn his passing are his sister Mary (Clyde) Applin, sister in law Augustine White, nieces Annett (Wilfred) Baines and Family Marlene (Kev) Strangemore, Nephews Clyde Jr. (Edna) Applin And Family, Curtis (Dulcie) and Family and Tyrone White as well as many other family and friends.  Absalom was predeceased by his parents Elijah and Nellie white, and his brother Leslie. Visitation was held at the St. Margaret's Anglican Church in Reef's Harbour, from which the funeral service was held at 11:00am on Wednesday March 18 with Rev. Harold Harvey and Layperson Bernice Baines Officiating. Cremation followed the service with burial to be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director. 

CULL, RITA CARMEN

Passed away into peace on the 28th of February 2015 at the Health Science Center in St. John’s, Mrs. Rita C. Cull of St. Anthony in her 71st year. Left to mourn her loss are her husband Glossen Cull, daughter Judy Cull, Sons Terry and Gordon Cull; daughters in law Tara Cull and Vanessa Simms, 6 grandchildren, Sister Sandra Sinyard and Brothers Jim and William Sinyard as well as a large circle of family and friends. Visitation was held at the Funeral home in St. Anthony, after which the funeral service was held at the Salvation Army Church at 2:00pm on the 8th of March 2015 with Major Kathleen Baggs Officiating, burial will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger Funeral Director. 

PILGRIM, CHESLEY CLIFFORD

Passed peacefully away surrounded by his loving family at the Charles S. Curtis memorial Hospital on the 5th day of January 2015. Mr. Chesley Clifford Pilgrim of St. Anthony was in his 82nd year. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife of 57 years Vera, his four children Mona(Bill), Linda(Scott), Nelson(Brenda), and Cheryl(Wayne), Nine Grandchildren Shelly, Victoria, Kerry, Brandon, Nikiata, Mark, Lori, Steven, and Mackenzie, Nine Great Grandchildren, Sister Mae(Ed), Sisters-in-Law Lillian, Mabel (George),  and Betty(Calvin), many nieces, nephews, as well as a large circle of relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Edna and Cecil Pilgrim and his Brother Douglas. Visitation was held at the funeral home followed by the funeral service which took place at 2:00pm on Friday the 9th day of January 2015 from the United Church in St. Anthony with Reverend Dinesh Gomes officiating. Cremation will be taking place after the service, Interment to take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.

REID, MATTHEW LEVI

Matthew was born in St. Anthony on Jan. 15, 1987. He moved away with his mom to Gander at the age of two years. He made many moves with his military family throughout his childhood years. In December, 2010, Matthew decided to move back home to St. Anthony. In 2011, Matthew met his wife Penney and his stepson Reid Taylor. They began their lives together and were happily married on Nov. 9, 2013. Matthew dearly loved his family and cherished every moment he spent with them. Despite a very difficult year, Matthew and Penney shared a miracle when their beautiful daughter, Isabella, was born. Anyone who knew Matthew knew that he was so proud to be a father. He loved his children, wife and family and his extra special friends unconditionally without question. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Penney; son Reid, daughter Isabella; son Emmanuel (adopted); parents Dawn and Mike Walsh; brother Leo; grandparents Jean and Levi Reid; grandmother Isabella Walsh; grandfather Mike Walsh (Barb), numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, extra special friends Brenda Best and Brad Shattler, the Nicholas family, and a large circle of other family and friends. He was predeceased by a number of grandparents and aunts and uncles on both sides of the family, and especially his great uncle Levi Reid, who Matthew held very dear to his heart. Visitation took place at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service was held At 2:00pm on Saturday, Jan. 3 with Rev. Paul Findlay officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Trust Fund (see Below). Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. One of Matt’s greatest concerns was that his children’s future and education would be taken care of.
