CANNING, CLARABELLE

November 1, 1934 - January 4, 2024

It is with great sadness that the family of Clara Canning announce her passing on January 4, 2024 at Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony, NL at the age of 89.

Leaving to mourn with fond and loving memories is her husband of 64 years: Simon Canning; sons: Jerry Adams (Joanne) and Graham Canning; Her loving Grandchildren: Jennifer Todd (Robert), Jamie Adams, Heather Parsons (Mark), Kristoffer Canning (Caroline), Lexi Ploc-Canning, Cierra Rawson (Aly), Luke Beltanu-Ploc (Hannah), Jesse Ploc-Canning and 3 great-grandchildren: Mia, Hendrix and Winslow. Clara also leaves to mourn siblings Rowena Galway, Leamon (Emily) Adams, Evelyn Hann (Larry), Dorman Adams (Denise) and loving sister Tryphena Adams (Dan) as well as a large circle of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.

She is predeceased in death by her parents: James and Elizabeth Adams; siblings: Amelia Newman, Olive Cassell, James Adams, Jasper Adams, Baxter and Levina Adams.

Visitation will take place at Calvary Pentecostal Church, Roddickton, NL on Saturday, January 6, 2024 from 7-9 pm and Sunday, January 7, 2024 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm. Funeral services will take place on Monday, January 8, 2024 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Mark Locke officiating. Interment to follow at Calvary Pentecostal Church Cemetery.

The family would like to send special thanks to the staff of Roddickton House along with the nurses, doctors and staff at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St.Anthony, NL for their compassion and care.

SLADE, CLARA

Passed away January 15th, 2018 from the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 82 years. Clara Slade was born on May 19, 1935 to William and Emma Patey of Pateyville. Clara grew up in Pateyville and later she began to work. She worked at a number of jobs beginning as the assistant cook at the Grenfell House. On October 3, 1961 she married Frank Slade in Happy Valley,and they recently celebrated 57 years of marriage. During those years she worked with Frank fishing as well as on the dock which Frank managed. Clara was a pleasant woman with a variety of interests. She was a member of the UCW, as well as a member of the Legion for more than 29 years. She loved her gardens and flowers as well as her cats.In younger years she accompanied Frank fishing, hunting and travelling. She enjoyed singing and card games as well as being with people. In the last few years she had a number of health problems which limited her activities, but which did not affect her smile. Clara passed peacefully away on January 15th. She is survived by her husband Frank, brothers Louden (Druscilla), Hedley (Marina) Ron (Pam), Ralph (Sally) and sister Victoria. She is also survived by her brothers in law Cyril, Eric (Ellen, deceased),and Norman (Dorothy) and sisters in law Jessie (Bruce), Maude (Jim), Mary Slade and Joyce (Ron), niece Phyllis (Neil) and nephew Jeffrey (Jeanette) and care giver Mary Patey as well as many other family members and friends. Visitation was held from Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Home in St. Anthony until the funeral on Friday, January 18th, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the St. Anthony United Church with Rev. John officiating. COLBOURNE, VERA CLARA

Passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis memorial Hospital on 27th day of May2015, Mrs. Vera Colbourne of St. Anthony was in her 83rd year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her Son Larry, Three Grandchildren Suzanne(Ernie), Mike(Nadia), Ronnie(Kayla), Eight Great Grandchildren Samantha, Sarah, Shannon, Mitchell, Preston, Tristen, Brooklyn, Cohen, and one Great-Great Grandchild Allie as well as many relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Garland, Daughter Ivy, Parents Caleb and Beatrice Pennell, Sisters Lily, Pearl, and Nellie. Visitation was held at the funeral home in St. Anthony followed by the funeral service which was held from the Salvation Army Church on Saturday the 30th day of May 2015 at 2:30pm with Major Dinzel Baggs officiating. Burial took place at the old Salvation Army cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre's Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard funeral director. 

HOWELL, MARGARET CLARA

Margaret Clara Hancock was born in Goose Cove, NL on August 11, 1952 to Joseph and Agnes Hancock.  She grew up in the community with her two brothers, John and Phillip, and her two sisters Theresa and Elizabeth.  Margaret graduated high school at Harriot Curtis Collegiate, and went on to graduate as a Registered Nurse from Western Memorial School of Nursing in Corner Brook in 1975.  She then came to work in Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthon, where she spent time in many roles, but most enjoyed her time in the Emergency Dept. Margaret married Guy Howell in 1980.  They had two children, Krista Lynn and Christopher.  After an early retirement from her profession, Margaret spent a great deal of her time involved in activities at her church, Bethel Pentecostal Church.  She enjoyed cooking and caring for others.  She gave tirelessly of her time and love to anyone and everyone who came in her path. Margaret Passed away into Peace on 10th of July, 2014, with her family by her side. She leaves to mourn her husband, Guy, daughter Krista Lynn, son Christopher (Stefanie), sister Theresa (Edward), sister Elizabeth, brother Phillip (Gail), mother in law Flora, sister in law Selma, brother in law Todd (Sandra), several nieces and nephews, and a large circle of other family and friends. She is predeceased by her father and mother, Joseph and Agnes as well as her brother John.  Visitation was held at the Bethel Pentecostal Church, from which the funeral service was held at 2:00pm on the 13th of July with Pastor Jeff Bessey officiating. Burial followed in the Church cemetery.  Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Siobhan Mauger Funeral Director.
