CASEY, LAWRENCE JAMES (Lar)

December 1, 1931 - August 20, 2024

Lar passed peacefully away, surrounded by family, on August 20, 2024. He was 92 yrs old. He is now reunited with his wife of 55 years, Mary (née Byrne), who passed away on this past June 30th. He leaves to mourn his 5 children - Daphne (Jill Barron), Derek (Julie), Larry (Melissa Davidson), Paul (Jackie Butt), and Matthew (Stephanie Hibbs), his 7 grandchildren - Allie, Leah, Finn, Anna, Holly, Nathan, and Isabella, and 1 great-grandson Leo. He is also leaving behind his brother George, his in-laws, Theresa Byrne, Don Kearney, Margaret (Arthur Sturge), Marie Byrne, and Calvin Humphries, and his much loved nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Stephen and Ellen Casey (nee Kenney), his beloved siblings William Casey, Bridget Lewis, Angela Power, and Margaret Hunt, and his in-laws Margaret and Elias Byrne, Rose Humphries, Sadie Meaney, Laura Kearney, and Gerald, Michael, and Vincent Byrne

Dad was a wonderful and gentle man. He always seemed content and was pretty easy-going. His smile was never far away. He was quiet most of the time. But then, when you got him talking, the stories would flow. Dad taught us, by his example, the importance of a good work ethic. He worked from dawn to dusk to provide for his family. We never went without anything we needed. He loved his family dearly - “I loves ye all”, he would say every time you talked to him. Children brought out his biggest smiles. His grandchildren and great-grandson held a special place in his heart.

The family would like to thank Dad’s caregiver, Lucy Byrne. Her incredible compassion and great care allowed him to remain at home as long as possible. When she came into the house, Dad’s face lit up and she got the big smiles too. The staff at Curtis Memorial Hospital took great care of Dad in his last few months. Your kindness will not be forgotten.

Visitation will take place from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Conche with the wake at 8:00 pm. The funeral mass will take place at 11:00 am on Friday, August 23, 2024 with Fr. Amir officiating. Interment to follow.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, Funeral Director.

Mary’s primary focus in life was her family. She was a wonderful and kind mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She taught us the values we will always live by. She loved us all unconditionally.

She was a woman of great faith. If you were on her mind, for whatever reason, you can be assured that Mary remembered you in her prayers. Her faith always brought her great comfort.

The family would like to thank all those who cared for Mom during her final years, especially her caregiver and cousin, Lucy Byrne. Mom was able to live at home for two extra years thanks to Lucy’s incredible compassion and great care. The staff at Curtis Memorial Hospital were there for her in her last few months and we had no worries about her care because they treated her like family. Your kindness will not be forgotten.
