HUGHES, CALVIN

August 3, 1947 - February 24, 2023

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Calvin Hughes on February 24th, 2023 after a short battle with cancer at James Patton Memorial Hospital in Gander surrounded by his loving family.

Calvin was born to Henry and Isabella Hughes in Green Island Brook on August 3, 1947. He married the love of his life, Donna Applin on December 28, 1971. He was a devoted dad to 4 children; Sherman, Rocky, Tammy, and Eliza whom he loved deeply to the very end.

Calvin lived in Green Island Brook until 1996 when he moved to Goose Bay where he met some of the most special friends and coworkers that he deeply cared for. It is while he was in Goose Bay that the pride and joy of his life, Shikara was born. Shikara was certainly “Pop’s girl” who could do no wrong. Right to the very end she held her pops hand.

Left to mourn with loving memories, his wife of 51 years, Donna; Children: Sherman (Kaye), Rocky (Kim), Tammy (Scott), Eliza (Shane), and Shikara (Kyle); Grandchildren: Jamie Leigh, Julia, Irelyn, Jadea, Tucker, Paul, Jack, Jayden, and Chloe; Siblings: Nathanial, Viola (Albert), Wilfred (Elaine), Wilga (Amy), Ronald (Millie), Millie (Chesley), Eileen (Donald), Lorraine (Selby), Harvey (Julie), Vina (Jimmy), and Maisie (Lloyd). He will be greatly missed by a large circle of nieces, nephews and friends

Calvin is predeceased by his Parents, Henry and Isabella Hughes; Sister, Rosie Parrill; Special brother-in-law, Ronald Campbell; in-laws, William (Bill) and Eliza Applin.

Visitation to take place from St. Andrew’s Anglican Church in Lower Cove beginning the evening of Sunday, February 26th, 2023. Visitation will continue Monday February 27, 2023 with the family service taking place Monday evening. The funeral service will take place on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Vernon Short officiating. Interment to follow in Green Island Brook.

TAYLOR, CALVIN SR.

It is with great sadness the family announces the passing of Calvin Taylor Sr., age 61 who passed away peacefully at the Flower’s Cove Health Clinic on April 10th, 2018. He leaves behind to mourn: his Wife Jessie Taylor; Daughters Gail Taylor (Barry Dredge), Ada (Jeff Genge), Son Calvin Taylor Jr. (Rochelle Rumbolt); Grandchildren Jeremy Taylor, Renee Genge; Brother Clyde (Amy Taylor); Sisters Rachel Coates, Gladys Ryland, Sadie (William Stevens), Jane (Jacob Williams.) Funeral services took place from St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove on April 13th, 2018 with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating. The family would like to send a special thanks to Nurse Bonnie Decker for all her help and support though our family’s difficult times. We would also like to send a warm thanks of appreciation to family and friends who stopped by to show support and thoughtfulness in each and every way. We will always be grateful for your kindness. CURLEW, CALVIN EDWARD

Passed peacefully away at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony on the 3rd day of January. Mr. Calvin Edward Curlew of Englee was in his 81st year. He leaves to mourn with many great and fond memories his wife of 55 years Mae, his sons Dean(Mae), Glenn(Alice), Derek (Anselma) and Sheldon, Grandchildren Gregory(Tracie), Liska (Joey), Shawn(Jessica), and Baby J.J.(deceased), Brother Cecil, Sisters Ethel and Blanch as well as a large circle of family and friends. Visitation was held at the Faith Pentecostal Tabernacle on Friday January 6th followed through to the funeral service on Monday January 9th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Simms Officiating, Interment followed in the Pentecostal Cemetery in Englee. DIAMOND, CALVIN

Passed away peacefully on April 30, 2016 at the John M. Gray Centre at 71 years of age. Calvin Diamond was born to Val and Irene (Warren) Diamond in Cook’s Harbour on January 22, 1945.  Calvin began work at the Department of Highways, where he met and worked with some life-long friends.  After a couple of years he began work at Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro where he worked and enjoyed his job until he retired at the age of 55.  He met the love of his life Gaye (Colbourne) and married not long after in 1967.  They had four children together and over the years, their family grew as their children married and began their own families.  Calvin had a very fulfilling life with his family and a large circle of close friends.  He enjoyed moose hunting, playing cards, going out in boat and put several miles on the truck driving around town.  Cal and Gaye spent a lot of their retired years at their cabin in Northwest Arm and loved to see company coming any time of day. He leaves to mourn his sons Darren (Shawna), Duane (Allison), and Dean (Krista), his daughter Lynn (Travis), his nine grandchildren: Cara, Michelle (Darren), Mark, Paul (Duane), Danielle, Jenna, Sarah (Dean), Grant, Hannah (Lynn); brother Marvin (Edna), sister-in-law’s Dot Colbourne and Lois (Roger) Boyd, and a large circle of friends and extended family. Cal was predeceased by his wife Gaye, his parents Val and Irene, and his brother-in-law Wayne. Vitiation took place at Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral home in St. Anthony. The funeral service was held on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the St. Anthony United Church with Rev.
