BAINES, GEORGE

January 28, 1959 - November 20, 2023

After a short, courageous battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we the family of George Baines share the sad new of his passing on November 20, 2023 at the age of 64. George passed in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his loving family and friends as he had wished for.

George was born January 28, 1959 to Noah and Dorcas Baines of Reefs Harbour. George enjoyed spending time at the cabin and camping all around NL in is motorhome as well as spending time out in boat and fishing (which he did all his life). He enjoyed time with family and friends.

George will be forever remembered and sadly missed by his loving partner, Darlene; his son: Mitch; Stepsons: David (Brittney), Joshua; Granddaughter: Lindsay; Sisters: Effie (Baxter), Joy (Steve), Leah (Jeff); Brothers: Hubert (Lucy), Cyril (Theresa), John, Bob; Mother-in-law: Pauline Eddison; Brothers-in-law: Kenneth and Darrell Eddison; a large number of nieces, nephews, and a large circle of extended family and friends.

George was predeceased by his parents: Noah and Dorcas Baines; Sisters: Vonnie and Jill; and Brothers: Pierce, Noah, and Ivan.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Mina and all the Doctors, Nurses, and Staff of Labrador-Grenfell Health, Dr. Holmes, Dr. Ahmad, and Tracey House NP.

Cremation has taken place, a funeral and burial date will be announced at a later time.

BAINES, ELIZABETH

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our devoted mom, nan, great nan, mom in law, Sister and friend, Elizabeth Baines of Shoal Cove West, after a short illness. Elizabeth passed peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday September 18, 2023 at the age of 81 years, at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders.

Mom was an exceptional woman, she loved to be surrounded by her family, sharing her famous Sunday dinner, playing cards, telling stories and having a good laugh. She was a hard worker who spent many years in the fish plant, she also worked very hard for family always making sure we had everything we needed and wanted. Mom also enjoyed many hobbies, she loved crafting, sewing, along with gardening and berry picking. Mom was certainly a woman of many talents and always persevered in every situation, Mom it is your love and strength that will guide us through.

She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her children: Perfie (Sib) Jenneaux, Jeanetta (Mark) Donahue, Margaret (Howard) Myers, Andy (Bernice) Baines and Nancy (Keon) Toope; grandchildren: Jari, Jolon (Holly), Kirstie (Jason), Michele (Nate), Ann (Kris), Howard (Deanna), Brandon (Savannah), Nakita (Jonathan), Keon and Luke; great grandchildren: Miley, Joan, Blade, Scarlett, Harper, Adaline, Josie, Desmond, Piper, Archibald, Valerie and Sophia; sisters: Vivian Coombs, Rowena (Cosmo) Beaudoin, Bessie Coombs, and Belinda (Steven) Applin; brothers: Lambert (Iris) Coombs, Israel (Kathleen) Coombs, Honorary Daughter Michelle Hynes and Special niece Laverne Hynes Sister in Law Susan Baines, brother in law Angus Coombs as well as many other relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Archibald Baines, her parents Lambert and Eva Coombs, Sisters Lavina Coombs, Mamie Coombs, Olga Coombs (Melvin), Brothers: Wilfred Coombs (Ruby), Leslie Coombs. Mother and father-in-law; Michael and Johanna Baines; brother in laws: Stewart Coombs, Stedman Coombs, Ronald (Bertha), Roland (Mary), Cecil and William;

The visitation is taking place at St. Margaret of Scotland Anglican Church in Reef’s Harbour on Wednesday evening, Thursday and Friday (sept. 20,21 and 22) with the family service being held at 7 pm on Thursday night, followed by the funeral service at 4pm on Friday the 22nd of September with Rev. Terrance Coates officiating. Burial will follow the service in the French Cove Anglican Cemetery. Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. BAINES, MARY EVELYN (Nee Coombs)

March 27, 1933 - February 10, 2022

Passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at John M Gray Centre, St. Anthony on February 10th, 2022. Mrs. Mary Evelyn Baines of Shoal Cove West at the age of 88 years. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Roland and son Hank, parents John and Elizabeth (Genge), brothers Lambert, Israel and Leslie and sister Nellie White. Leaving to mourn with cherished memories, her daughters, Beulah Gibbons (Dwight) and Holly Baines (Derrick); son Michael; granddaughters, SheriLee Chambers (Borje) and Jean McGrath (Scott); great grandchildren Michael Chambers, Jonathan Chambers, Cora McGrath and Abraham McGrath; great nephew Lorne Coombs; and a large circle of relatives and friends. Dorcas Baines, 88, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2021 at the Long-term Care Unit, Rufus Guinchard Health Centre. Dorcas was born in Shoal Cove West, NL to Lean and John (Jack) Coombs on September 29, 1932. She loved playing cards and she loved her family.
She leaves to Mourn, her Children; John, Hubert (Lucy), George (Darlene), Joy (Steve), Cyril (Theresa), Effie (Bax), Bob, Gay (Jeff); Son-in-law, Doff, Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren and her sisters, Effie and Dulcie.
Besides her parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters, she is predeceased by her husband Noah; Daughters, Yvonne and Jill as well as her sons; Pearce, Iran, and Noah.
Dorcas’ family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre for their exceptional care of our mom over the past 2 1/2 years. We would also like to thank her dear friends, Lillian Beaudion and Una Hynes and everyone who visited her at home and at RGHC.
Cremation has taken place, funeral service and inurnment will be held at French Cove Cemetery on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 2:00pm with Rev. Gosse officiating.

DOYLE, YVONNE PAULINE (nee Baines)

June 17, 1956 – February 14, 2020

Yvonne (Vonnie) Doyle nee Baines, born June 17th 1956 peacefully passed away on February 14th 2020 surrounded by her loving family. Vonnie has a genuine heart, she enjoyed socializing, playing darts with her amazing friends and spending time with her family she loved dearly especially her three grandsons. Vonnie leaves to mourn her devoted husband, Doff; Mother, Dorcas Baines; Children, Noah (Chatal), Vicki (Michael); Grandsons, Alex, Nicholas and Kyle; Siblings, John, Hubert (Lucy), George (Darlene), Joy (Steve), Cyril (Theresa), Effie (Bax), Bob, Leah (Jeff); Sister-in-laws, Brother-in-laws, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, and friends. She is predeceased by her father Noah Baines, twin sister Jill, and brothers Ivan, Noah, and Pierce. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Noreen Fardy and all doctors, nurses and staff of Labrador Grenfell Health. Visitation to begin at St. Margaret’s Anglican Church in Reefs Harbour, the afternoon of February 20, 2020 with the family service taking place at 7:00 pm that evening. BAINES, MELVIN H.

Passed away at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre in Port Saunders on August 10, 2018 at the age of 68 years. Melvin was born on March 25th, 1950 to George and Alma Baines. He met the love of his life Olga Coombs 40 + years ago; together they raised one child, Lars until her passing in November 2014. He loved the outdoors, hunting, and most of all his Grandsons, Bo and Reid. He will be surely missed by all who knew him. Melvin leaves to mourn his Son, Lars (Thelma); Grandsons Bo and Reid; Siblings George (Liz), Hayward (Jessie), Olga (Albert), Augustine, Kay, Joyce (Jim), Iris (Lambert); Sister-in-laws Dorcas, Shirley as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his Life Partner Olga; Parents George and Alma; Siblings Noah, Leander (Lucy), Wilfred (Theresa), Virginia (Nathaniel), Harold; and Brother-in-laws Les and Harvey. The funeral was held on August 16th, 2018 at 2:00 pm from St. Margaret's Anglican Church in Reef’s Harbour with Rev. Claire Stewart officiating. Inurnment to take place at a later date.
