SMITH, THOMAS

August 7, 1935 - June 26, 2022

Thomas Smith passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony at the age of 86 years old, on June 26, 2022, with his family at his side.

He was born in St. Anthony on August 7, 1935, the son of John and Drucella Smith of Raleigh. Thomas married the love of his life, Hilda (nee Taylor) on February 14, 1955. Together they had five children Joyce, Pansy, Terry, Shirley and Peggy.

Thomas spent a number of years working as a equipment operator with Stanley Hodge in St. Anthony. In 1969 he went to work with NL Hydro as a plant operator, 11 years later continued as a fisherman for his remaining career. He lived a good healthy retirement, enjoying moose hunting, tending to his garden, visits from his grandchildren and many trips salmon fishing in Main Brook with very special friends.

He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his loving wife Hilda, daughters Joyce, Pansy, Peggy, Shirley (Jeff), and son Terry (Linda), brothers Willis, Barton (Virtue), sister Viola (Abiel), 12 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchildren and many extended family and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, John and Drucella, brothers Jack (Anna), Felix (Joanna), Jerry (Jane), Noah (Laura), sister Elizabeth (Caleb), sister in law Nellie and son in law Gilbert.

Thank you to the staff of ICU, Palliative Care and to Dr. Milani and Dr. Mina at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, your thoughtfulness and kindness will never be forgotten.

It is with broken hearts the family of Nelson White announce his peaceful passing on March 17, 2022. He leaves to mourn his children, Barry (Dale), Roland (Joy), Nelson Jr. (Dorcas), Miriam (Les), Nita (Stephane); Grandchildren, Chastity (Gavin), Kelly (Christopher), Robby (Holly), Dillon (Courtney), Rendell (Keristen), Gina, Jack, Eric; Greatgrandchildren, Peyton, Anna, Macy, Skyla, Lily, Nathan, Noah, Hannah, Dustin and Brooklyn as well as a circle of extended family and friends.

He is predeceased by his Wife, Margaret; Parents, John and Selina; Brothers, Elijah, Wilfred, Lambert; Sisters, Melvina, Evelyn, and Virtue.

COOMBS, JOANNA ELIZABETH (JOANIE)

Sept. 21, 1941 - Jan. 11, 2022

Joanie passed away peacefully on January 11th 2022 at the Charles Curtis Memorial Hospital in St Anthony at the age of 80 years. Joanie was born in Plum Point and lived there all her life until she lost her home to a fire in 2019. She then moved to the Shirley's Haven personal Care Home in St Anthony.

Joanie will always be remembered by her family; her sisters Susan Chambers, Bertha Etheridge; her brothers Lawrence Coombs and Lorenzo (Mary) Coombs, and a large number of nieces and nephews and their families.

Joanie was predeceased by her parents Absalom and Florence (Bonnell) Coombs, her brother Harrison Coombs and her in-laws Clyde Chambers, Nellie Coombs, and Gordon Etheridge Sr.

A special thank you to the staff at the Shirley's Haven personal care home for their care while she lived there. It was deeply appreciated.

Joanie will be laid to rest at the cemetery in Pond Cove with her family in attendance. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton.

GREEN, LESTER CLAYTON

It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Lester on December 2, 2021 from the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital at the age of 88 years.

Lester was born July 1, 1933 in Raleigh to Miriam and Barton Green. On June 11, 1953 he married the love of his life, Irene (Andrews) of Harbour Deep. They made their home in Raleigh where they raised six children. Lester spent most of his life as a fisherman.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of out loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Thelma Coates, at St. Anthony Hospital on September 9, 2021 at the age of 94 years. She was the last child born to Abraham, and Elizabeth Dredge of Black Duck Cove.
She leaves to mourn with loving and lasting memories her Children, Gerald (Ruby), Betty (Bob), Marilyn (Whyman); Daughters-in-law, Ivy and Hazel; Grandchildren, Gerald (Lorraine), Dean (Madonna), Jennifer (John), Carlyann, Quenten (Sherri), Ricky, Miranda (Sebastien), Robbie (Deanna), Gregory, Scott (Kaitlin); Great-grandchildren, Tyler, Renee, Connor, Skylar, Sharla, Laura, Willie, Laci, Lucien, Ariane, Bobby, Blake, Jada, Gemma and Carly. She will also be remembered by, Sister-in-law, Gladys Dredge and Special Friend, Rosie Mclean.
Thelma was predeceased by her husband, Willie and Sons, Harrison and Melvin; Brothers, William, Walter, John, Roland, Abraham; Sisters, Blanche, Cinderella, and Kittie.
She loved her family very much. She especially loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was always overjoyed whenever they came to visit her, always making sure she had pies and other treats to give them. She lived a simple life, she never travelled far from her home in Eddies Cove. She was a stay at home mom who worked hard to earn and provide for her family, making sure she did the best she could for them. After her husbands passing she moved to the Ivy Durley Place in Flowers Cove. She liked living at the home and we would like to thank the staff for taking such good care of her and making her feel so comfortable. Her last few months were spent at the hospital in St. Anthony, we would like tot hank the health care workers for attending to her every need and all the kindness they had shown her while she was there- thanks everyone.
Visitation to take place from St. Andrews Anglican Church in Lower Cove on Sunday, September 12, 2021. The funeral will be held on Monday, September 13, 2021 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dorcas Baines, 88, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2021 at the Long-term Care Unit, Rufus Guinchard Health Centre. Dorcas was born in Shoal Cove West, NL to Lean and John (Jack) Coombs on September 29, 1932. She loved playing cards and she loved her family.
She leaves to Mourn, her Children; John, Hubert (Lucy), George (Darlene), Joy (Steve), Cyril (Theresa), Effie (Bax), Bob, Gay (Jeff); Son-in-law, Doff, Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren and her sisters, Effie and Dulcie.
Besides her parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters, she is predeceased by her husband Noah; Daughters, Yvonne and Jill as well as her sons; Pearce, Iran, and Noah.
Dorcas’ family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Rufus Guinchard Health Centre for their exceptional care of our mom over the past 2 1/2 years. We would also like to thank her dear friends, Lillian Beaudion and Una Hynes and everyone who visited her at home and at RGHC.
Cremation has taken place, funeral service and inurnment will be held at French Cove Cemetery on Friday, August 13, 2021 at 2:00pm with Rev. Gosse officiating.

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Nellie Smith announce her passing at the John M. Gray Center in St. Anthony on June 28, 2021 at the age of 84 years. She was a hardworking woman who dearly loved her family and done all she could to provide for them. Nellie will be sadly missed by her husband of 67 years, Willis Smith; her sons, Ralph (Bride), Abiel (Pansy) Hedley (Jean), Gary; Daughters, Janice (Richard), Joan (Phil), Judy (Barry), Patsy, Maisie, Valerie (Toma); 16 Grandchildren, 23 Greatgrandchildren; Sister, Gertie Bolger, as well as a large circle of Nieces, Nephews, and other extended family. Nellie is predeceased by her parents, John and Elsie Taylor, 2 Children, 3 Grandchildren; Brothers, Harvey and Norman; Sisters, Ethel, Stella as well as her Mother and Father-in-law, Drucella and John Smith. Evelyn was predeceased by her loving husband Edward , Beloved Grandson Rocky, Children Beatrice, Yvonne, Wilson and Ethel, as well as her parents Thomas and Beatrice and sister Eliza.
