It is with great sadness that the family of Wilson Toope has to announce the peaceful passing from this life to the next at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St Anthony on the 16th day of February, 2023. Mr. Wilson Toope was in his 76th year. Always a loving husband, father and grandfather. He did everything he could for his family. Wilson loved his family more than anything in this world. He was a family man and worked hard all his life to ensure that his wife and children were taken care of. He enjoyed playing cards, cutting wood, moose hunting and spending time with his family. Left behind to mourn his loss are his children daughter Mamie Ellen (Randy) Sons James (Holly), Wilson Jr. Granddaughter’s Sacha(Anthony), Brooklyn Grandson Sean His brothers Whyman (Emeline), Nicholas (Ivy), Leslie (Edith).

His sisters Cicely (Selby), Sharon (Reginald) and a large circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Wilson is predeceased by his loving wife Cinderella his parents James and Mary. Sisters Margaret, Elva, Shallottie and brothers Isaac and Abraham.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the thoughtful and caring staff at the dialysis unit as will as the emergency and ICU staff at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St Anthony.

COOMBS, GEORGE

George Coombs passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on March 4th, 2021 at the age of 88. His battle with serious medical issues over the last few years showed his determination courage and bravery to fight to stay with his family despite his pain. George was a hero in the eyes of his family and stayed strong until the end.

George leaves to mourn the love of his life Mamie Coombs. They were married for 63 years and had 4 children: Myrtle (John Claude), Walter (Jocelyn), Cindy and Brada (Bruce). George also leaves his grandchildren, Casey, Cindy, Jarrett (Natasha) and Braden. Great grandchildren: Dawson, Deja and a large circle of family and friends.

George is predeceased by his daughter, Cindy; his mom and dad Walter and Amelia Coombs; Brothers, Jake and John and sisters Matilda, Ruby, Myrtle and Caroline.

George will be greatly missed by all who were lucky to have met him with his strong and witty personality and the love he had for his family.

The family would like to extent a heartfelt thanks to the ER staff and Medics at SBIHC for their kindness and amazing care shown to George during his many visits and his last few days.

The viewing will be held at K M Fillatre’s Funeral Home St. Anthony and George will be laid to rest at St. Mary Anglican Cemetery in Black Duck Cove.

Passed away June 28, 2020 at the Health Science Center in St. Johns at the age of 63 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his Wife, Jonie; Son, Cody Gibbons (Nadine Parrill); Siblings, Roland (Peggy), Kirby (Edith), Susan (Derek), Donna (Wilf), Kathy (Boris); Sister-in-law, Jenita (Edward Taylor); Brothers-in-law, Sam Taylor, Jake (Mary) Taylor; Nieces and Nephews, Casey (Allie), Corey (Glenda), Christopher (Sheena), Kaitlyn, Drew, Renita, Courtney (Clay), Terri (Brad); Great-Nieces and Great-Nephews, Marty, Natalie, Daxton, Alyssa, Brayden, Chase, Cade, Coy, Thea, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Ivan was predeceased by his Daughter, Renita Shermain; Nephew, Kirby Gibbons; Sister, Daisy Gibbons; Parents, Roland and Sybil Gibbons; and parents-in-law, Harold and Jessie Taylor. A private viewing was held from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony on Thursday July 30, 2020 with cremation to follow. Further funeral and burial details to be announced at a later date. TAYLOR, LAWRENCE

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Lawrence Taylor announce his sudden passing on August 17, 2017 at the John M Gray Long Term Care facility in St. Anthony at the age of 80 years. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Irene Taylor; Son Ricky (Maureen), Daughters Tina (Clyde), Elizabeth (Ken); Granddaughter Chelsea (Borrea); Grandsons Nico (Abbygail), Colby; Great Grandchild Lance; Sisters Rachel Coates, Sadie Stevens (William Henry), Jane Williams (Jacob), Glady Ryland; Brothers Clyde (Amy), Calvin (Jessie); Sisters-in-law Sybil Taylor (Scott Samson), Naomi Hughes (Hubert), Donna Hughes (Calvin), Edna Taylor (Michael Gibbons), Rachel Applin, Dulcie Applin, Vivian Williams; Brothers-in-law John Parrill, William Evans as well as a large family of nieces and nephews he loved dearly and a special great niece Keisha Taylor who helped look after him. He was predeceased by his parents Isaac and Elizabeth Taylor; Son Gilbert; Daughter Judy Roxanne; Sister Ethel; Brothers Roland and Edgar; Mother and Father in Law William and Eliza Applin; Brothers-in-law Levi Ryland, Curtis Coates, Richard Henry Applin, William Applin, Walter Taylor, Edmund Applin, Walter Applin, and Anson Applin; Sisters-in-law Mary Elizabeth Parrill and Keziah Evans. Visitation took place from the Anglican Church in Black Duck Cove from where the funeral service was held on Monday, August 21, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating. TAYLOR, JESSIE ELLEN

Passed peacefully away at the Straits of Belle Isle Health Center on the 1st day of April 2017. Mrs. Jessie Ellen Taylor of Forrester’s Point was in her 77th year. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories Sons Sam Taylor(Daisy), Jacob(Mary), Daughters Jenita Taylor(Edward), Jonie Gibbons(Ivan), Grandchildren Corey, Terri(Edward), Cody, Drew, Renita, Great Grandchildren Marty and Natalie. She was predeceased by her husband Harold, Granddaughter Renita Shermin, and Parents Samuel and Elizabeth Bailey. Visitation was held at the St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Black Duck cove from which the funeral service was held on Wednesday April 5th, 2017 at 2:00pm with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating. Interment followed into the church cemetery. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Homes, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard Funeral Director.
