December 14, 1951 - September 1, 2024
Langdon, Carol “Elaine”- peacefully passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at the John M. Gray Centre, St. Anthony, NL, in the presence of her loving husband, Hedley.
Elaine was born in Raleigh, NL, to the late Charles and Margaret (Taylor) Beaufield. She met the love of her life, Hedley Langdon, at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, where she was a beautiful young Dietary Aid and he was a handsome new Licensed Practical Nurse, working on the Medical Unit. It was love at first sight and Elaine knew that she would “marry him one day”. Elaine graduated, as a Licensed Practical Nurse, from Community College in Grand Falls in September, 1972, and she married Hedley in November that same year. The young couple raised their boys, Bradley and Brian, in St. Anthony.
Elaine’s nursing career was quite diverse, including The St Anthony Interfaith Home, the ECG Department with Dr. Gray, the Medical Unit at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital, as well as Psychiatry, for which she obtained additional training. After retirement, Elaine loved visiting her boys in Alberta. She looked forward to their time together and she was sure to make her amazing bakeapple cheesecake and drumstick dessert for them to savour. She enjoyed her daily walk to Fishing Point with Hedley, where she admired the scenery. Elaine was an accomplished knitter and crocheter, and most of her handmade treasures were given to her family and friends to enjoy. She loved dogs (and cats too), and her dog had the cutest dog house in the area, painted with Dalmatian spots to match his beautiful coat.
While many people in Northern Newfoundland dreaded the cold, winter months, Elaine enjoyed skidooing and spending time at their winter cabin, with friends. She especially loved Ken’s deep fried turkey! Elaine had a beautiful smile and she loved to laugh, especially when surrounded by her family and friends.
In addition to her husband, Elaine is survived by her sons, Bradley (Sarah), Edmonton, AB, and Brian, BC; three grandchildren, Kyle, Samantha, and Kyra; brother: Guy (Juanita) Beaufield; sisters: Faye (Ross) Sweeney, and Pamela (Brian) Guy; sisters-in-law: Shirley Beaufield, Daisy Beaufield, and Gladys Pilgrim, Betty (Bert) Wagg, Dorothy Penton, Neva Langdon, and Sadie Langdon; brothers-in-law: Harold (Donnata) Langdon, Scott Langdon, Kevin (Ann-Marie) Langdon, and Darren (Sandra) Langdon; numerous nieces and nephews, and many beloved friends.
Elaine was predeceased, in addition to her parents, by her Father and Mother-in-law, Harvey and Clara Langdon; brothers, Raymond Beaufield, and Calmond Beaufield; sisters, Muriel (Peter) Gray, Patricia (Bud) Best, and Marie (Scott) Smith; and sister-in-law, Jean Langdon.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to the staff of the John M. Gray Centre, for their care and compassion towards Elaine over the past few years.
At Elaine’s request, cremation will take place. There will be no funeral service at this time. A service will take place next summer in Raleigh, NL. For those who wish, a donation to the Raleigh United Church would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, Funeral Director.
