BURTON, BONNIE

December 22, 1946 - July 2, 2024

Bonnie passed away on July 2nd at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony, NL at 77 years old.

She leaves to mourn her daughter Ashley (Sarah), her son Raymond, and her sister Ella Jeans as well as her lifelong friends who became family: Mikki Vincent, Inga Coombs, Chris Patey, Joy Pilgrim and Clare Horton.

She was predeceased by her spouse of 25 years, Edward Whiteway, her parents Jean and Stephen Jeans and her grandparents Tom and Nellie Boyd.

In her younger years her dad was in St. Johns fighting TB and with her Mother busy teaching, Bonnie was raised by her grandparents, Tom and Nellie Boyd of Main Brook.

At the age of 19, Bonnie moved to Toronto, ON. She worked and raised her two children until she moved back to Main Brook to care for her grandfather in his later years. Bonnie spent a year in St. Johns fighting cancer and the doctors would ask her to visit with other patients in the unit. She could always make you feel good about yourself through her sense of humour and wisdom. For years after she would receive letters and cards from all the people she helped.

Her enjoyment came from many things like flowers and getting her hands in the dirt. Her love of animals and knitting. There was always a ball of wool with needles by her chair. The house was never empty as everyone knew they were welcome to drop in for a cup of coffee.

Ashley would like to sincerely thank the staff of John M. Gray for the excellent care of Bonnie in her later years.

Cremation has taken place and the burial service arrangements will be announced next summer when her daughter Ashley arrives home.
