HEATH, MARVEN JAMES

November 6, 1957 – February 9, 2020

Passed away at the Health Science Center in St. Johns on February 9, 2020 at the age of 62. Marven loved the ocean, he spent his career there. Starting on a freighter ship as a teenager he saw the world. Settling in Lunenburg, N.S., he became a Marine Diesel Engineer and worked in the N.S. fishery for 16 years and raised a family. Finally he retired in his hometown of St. Anthony, NL due to illness. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, His Sons, Murray (Bridgewater, N.S.), Clark (St. Anthony, N.L.); Brothers, Maurice, Murray, Paul, Trevor and their families as well as a circle of extended family and friends. Marven was predeceased by his Parents, William George Heath and Jessie Irene Heath. Private visitation took place from Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home in St. Anthony from where a private celebration of life will take place on Monday with Pastor Jeff Elliott offficiating. Interment to follow. STRUGNELL, KIRBY PETER

October 16 1963- February 10,2020

Kirby Strugnell of Port Hope Simpson, NL passed at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 56 years. Kirby like Spending time on the lake at his cabin, singing playing guitar, loved launching his boat on a sunny day to go fishing. As well he worked with Johnson construction for 11 years. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and coworkers. He leaves to mourn his Wife, Donna Strugnell; Daughters Annette and Yvette Strugnell; Granddaughters, Athena, Mya, and Marlene Strugnell; Parents, Violet and Simon Strugnell; Sisters and Brothers, Sherry Penney, Shelia King, Karen Chubbs, and Jason Strugnell as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Kirby was predeceased by Brother, Shawn Strugnell. Visitation to take place from the Pentecostal Church in Port Hope Simpson beginning on Wednesday, February 12th, 2020 and will continue on Thursday, February 13th, 2020. FILIER, NORMAN “Brud” GARFIELD

April 14, 1946 – February 8, 2020 Passed away February 8, 2020 at the White Bay Health Center in Roddickton, NL at the age of 73 years. Norman was born on April 14, 1946 to Silas and Alma Fillier of Roddickton. On February 8, 2020 he went home to be with the Lord whom he loved and served. Brud, as we know him, was a very loveable person and was well loved by all who knew him. He was kind and caring, always with a smile. He was also a very hard worker- as some would say “strong as an ox.” He loved the Lord and served him faithfully. He will surely be missed by his Family, Church family, and the town of Main Brook. Visitation was held from the Pentecostal Church in Main Brook from where the funeral was held on Friday, February 12, 2020 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Skinner officiating. Interment followed. BROWN, BARBARA

Barbara Brown (nee Samson), Brig Bay, NL, October 14th, 1941 – February 3rd, 2020 Passed peacefully away in the arms of the Lord on February 3rd, 2020, at the Rufus Guinchard Health Centre at the age of 78. She leaves with fond memories her daughter, Diane, son in-law Douglas, granddaughter Brittany (Dale Herter), step-daughter Christine (Wilson Pickett), sister Elsie, sister in laws Eileen (Cecil Dominaux), Jessie, Bernice, aunt Ursula, and special nieces, Marilyn and Linda. She is predeceased by her husband Wilson, parents Peter and Bessie, sister Marina and brothers: Thomas, Hiram, Conrad, and Kevin, brother in-law Grant, sister-in laws Emma and Effie. Barbara dearly loved her family, from Sundays spent at her parents’ house with her siblings, to extended vacations with her daughter and granddaughter in Ontario. As a true Newfoundlander, she loved a good game of cards and cooking her Sunday’s dinner. She will always be remembered for her caring heart and sense of humour. She is now resting peacefully and will forever be in our hearts. It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Susanna Bromley at Roddickton Health Centre on January 29, 2020 at age 98. Roland passed away January 23, 2020 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 75 years. CARROLL, CHRISTINE EMILY

July 5, 1942 - January 22, 2020

Passed away January 22, 2020 at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 77 years. Christine was born on July 5, 1942 in Cooks Harbour, NL. She met the love of her life, George Carroll in Cooks Harbour, in 1961 they married and moved to Locks Cove. In 1966 George and Christine moved to St. Anthony where they raised their three children. Christine had many jobs through her life including working at St. Anthony Motel, Flavour Crisp Chicken, and Fishery Products where she worked until her retirement in 1992. Throughout her years, Christine was a happy and enthusiastic person, enjoying a good game of darts, bingo and cards. George and Christine will be dearly missed by her family and friends. She leaves to mourn her husband, George; Children, Larry (Mona), Leona (Vincent), Todd (Cathy); Grandchildren, Jonathan (Mandy), Andrew (Lindsey), Janessa, Chad (Dana), Emma; Great-Grandchildren, Isaac, Grayson, Clark, Gracie; Very Special Friends Ruby and Laverne; as well as a large circle of family and relatives. Ontwin (On) Burke was born on September 15th, 1936 in Flowers Cove to Jim and Fanny (Brown) Burke. In October 1971, he married Alice Lavallee from Blanc Sablon. They raised 4 children; Shirley, Lorna, Alex, and Donna. On passed away on Saturday, January 18, 2020 at the age. RICHARDS, WILFRED JOB

May 7, 1931 – January 18, 2020

Wilfred, a kind-hearted, gentle, hardworking man who was well loved by family and all who knew him. He was born to Clement and Gertrude Richards on May 7, 1931. He married Emma, the love of his life on July 22, 1955 and together they raised five children who were the apple of his eye. Throughout his life he was a fisherman, truck driver, forestry ranger, a carpenter and a businessman. Out of all of those jobs not one could compare to his love of the work he did for his church. A wonderful, loving, kind man, with a heart of gold who will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered. He leaves to mourn, his loving wife of 64 years, Emma; Children, Lillian (Raymond), Clem (Gloria), Loretta (Whyman), Letty (Joe), and Louise (Paul); Grandchildren, Trevor (Glenda), Mark (Jillienne), Billy (Genista), Davin (Samantha), Sarah, Zachery; Brother, Max (Bertha); Great grandchildren, Abby, Owen, William, Mya, Adaline, Harper, Scarlett; a large circle of nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
