COLES, BRIAN
May 28th, 1966 - April 24th, 2020
Brian was born on May 28th, 1966 to Maxwell and Gladys Coles of Savage Cove. Brian was a little brother to Kevin, Marilyn, Dean and Hen, and a special grandson to ‘Grammy’ who lived with them. Brian grew up amongst his many cousins and friends. He was always a kind-hearted man who enjoyed a laugh, had time to talk with everyone, and could certainly be a ‘hard-ticket’, although his mom would never say so. Brian left school and joined his father and brothers on their dragger. Out in boat and at home, Brian was an excellent cook. Whether Brian was coming from the dragger or from jigging in the small boat, when he landed at the wharf he always made sure to share a meal with those who looked forward to a feed of fish, especially his parents and his in-laws. On October 3rd, 1998, Brian married Heather, and they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Allie and Hilary. Brian was so proud of his girls; he wanted them to do well and he loved them unconditionally. Brian also loved their dog Zoey. Brian always enjoyed a chat, a trip in the woods, driving around, and knowing about his extended family. Brian passed away at the young age of 53 years, at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony with his wife, two daughters and brother at his side. He will always be remembered for the wonderful person he was and the memories he shared with those he loved will be forever cherished. God bless Brian.
He leaves to mourn with loving memories wife Heather Coles, daughters Allie Coles (special friend Mitchell White) and Hilary Coles, and his dog Zoey. Brothers: Dean Coles (Patsy) and George Henry Coles (Emma). Father in law Harrison White. Brothers-in-law Maitland Samson, and Wayne White (Karen). They were married shortly after and Miriam relinquished her teaching career to become a fisherman’s and trapper’s wife. Through some challenging times they were able to raise five children and see them thrive and raise their own families. Mother always took great pride in the achievements of her family. She always had a tremendous value for education and was so proud to see her children and grandchildren graduate from high school and in some cases continue their education. Mother adjusted well to being the wife of a fisherman and trapper. No one could cutthroat a cod more quickly or effectively than her or make a meal of rabbit taste better. Her grandchildren always said that Nan cooked the best eggs, and certainly the best tea and toast! She always prided herself on being a great knitter and seamstress and boasted one of the finest gardens in the community. Although not a regular church-goer, mother was a deeply religious person and would have wanted her family and friends at an official church service where there could be a celebration of her life. There is so much that family and friends would like to say about mother, and at a later time, when the difficulties of this recent health threat have passed, we will all get together and celebrate the wonderment and achievement of her lengthy and productive life. A special thanks goes out to all the well- wishers, those who cared for her in her final hours, those who helped at the grave site and any that supported the family at this sorrowful time. Your thoughts and kindness are greatly appreciated. The Burial service was held at the Anglican Cemetery in Pond Cove on April 15, 2020 with Rev. Deacon Vernon Short Officiating. Funeral arangments were entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatres Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Alicia Patey Funeral Director.

LODER, PHYLLIS JEAN
November 21, 1925 - April 7, 2020
It is with Sadness and blessings we announce the quiet passing of Phyllis Jean (King) Loder, on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 in her 94th year. Mr. And Mrs. Loder married in Cooks Hr. on August 31, 1945, and she soon became a loving fisherman’s wife, working side by side with Mr. Loder, at the fish, in the woods, and whatever else needed to be done, all while raising their five sons. She enjoyed the simple things in life; going to church, making quilts, knitting hundreds of pairs of socks to give away, baking the best pies, cooking the best soup, and of course “going for a ride.” But most of all, she loved berry picking, especially if it included a boil up with a camp fire and a rooting stick. Anywhere, anytime, any kind of berries, she was ready....she even picked a few berries this past summer at the sweet age of 93. She loved traveling on long trips to visit her sons, and all her little ones, who she let help with making bread, and making pies and cookies. She was always happy in the outdoors and enjoyed going to the cabin, and sitting out by the fire; playing trouble and doing puzzles...if it was at Bruce’s cabin, she enjoyed hearing him play and sing... Of course, she wouldn’t have done any of this if her hair wasn’t done just right! Even though she loved to travel, she loved coming home more; to the house she lived in for 70 plus years with the man who had won her heart. She was so happy when her sons came home, and her grandchildren, and great grandchildren visited... She didn’t care how many came, there was no shortage of food, and she loved to cook it. She was quite content to live in her house, right next door to Al and Wavey, who were always there for her (thankfully). She was a woman of tremendous faith, and was happy to be joining Mr. Loder at last. She peacefully went to her heavenly home to the sweet sound of Bruce singing, Francis praying, and Eli, Cyril and Allan, by her side. Pre-deceased by her loving husband, Seymour Alexander, in 2001, she leaves to mourn, with lots of memories, five sons, Eli (Judy), Francis (Anita), Cyril (Mildred), Allan (Wavey) and Bruce (Joan): 14 grandchildren, Nancy, Jill, John, Tammy, Marsha, Dale, Dion, Michael, Terry, Angie, Lisa, Susan, B.J, and Robert; 25 great grandchildren, Peyton, Kristen, Nate, Noah, Sarah, Katie, James, Benjamin, Evan, Ethan, Brayden, Olivia, Reese, Magnus, Brandon and Jack, Ella, Henry, Stephen, Laura, William, Silas, Ezri, Adah, Jamin; one great great-granddaughter, Victoria Rose; Sister Mary Taylor and a large circle of family and friends, especially Evelyn, her good friend. She was pre-deceased by her parents Elihu and Gladys King; Sisters Hazel, Janet, Ruth, and Brother Maurice. Graveside services took place on Friday, April 10, 2020. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M. Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony and Roddickton, Lee Nippard, Funeral Director.
