GENGE, HAZEROTH

January 12, 1925 – April 16, 2019

The family of the late Hazeroth Genge sadly announces her passing at John M Gray Centre in St. Anthony on April 16, 2019 at the age of 94. Hazeroth was born to Isaac John and Margaret Genge on January 12, 1925, the first of five children. She left home at the age of 17, and work took her to many places including Curling, Toronto, Detroit and Fort Lauderdale. Retirement brought her back home to Flowers Cove, where she enjoyed many years of healthy, independent living before she became ill about six years ago. Hazeroth was pre-deceased by her parents and her three brothers Asaph, Henry and Montrose and her brother-in-law Clarence King. Hazeroth will be sadly missed by her dear sister Cicely, and her dear sister-in-law Bertha, nieces Sandra (Tony) and Vina (Tony), nephews Randy (Debbie), Lewis (Beverly), Scott (Linda), Isaac (Valerie), and Bruce (Patty), as well as a circle of grand-nieces, grand-nephews and friends. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the many staff who cared for Hazeroth at Ivy Durley Place, Charles S Curtis Memorial Hospital and John M Gray Centre. The funeral service was held at St. Barnabas Anglican Church in Flowers Cove on Saturday, April 20 at 11 am with Rev. Omar Reyes officiating. Interment followed. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Kerry M Fillatre’s Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Alicia Patey, Funeral Director.

HEDDERSON, RITA

November 2nd, 1945- April 14, 2019

Rita was born in Griquet to Sarah & William Bridger on November 2nd, 1945. She met the love of her life Ray Hedderson of Hay Cove and married on January 23, 1964. Together they had five children, two of which died as infants. Rita had many jobs but ended her career as a seamstress with Grenfell Handicrafts. She took great pride in sewing and spent most of her spare time doing the same. Her pride and joy were her six grandchildren. Rita’s house was always open and food was always prepared for her many invited guests. Rita was an active member of her church until no longer able to physically attend. But she continued her walk with God and ministered to others along the way. Her trust in God never changed throughout her lengthy illness. Rita passed peacefully on April 14, 2019 at the John M. Gray Center surrounded by her family. Rita leaves to mourn Husband, Ray; Daughters Angela (Byron) and Allison (Duane); Son-in-law Barry; Grandchildren Kelsey, Mark, Paul, Kristan, Dante, Tanisha and a large circle of friends and extended family. She was predeceased by two infant children, Allister and Arlene and daughter, Amelia. Visitation was held from the Bethel Pentecostal Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral service was held on Thursday, April 18. 2019 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Jeff Elliot officiating. BUSHEY, TERRY JAMES

January 13, 1956 – April 7, 2019

Terry James Bushey of Green Island Cove , NL passed away unexpectedly on the April 7th , 2019, at the age of 63 years. Terry leaves to mourn with fond memories his wife of 33 years, Annie Marie (nee Mitchelmore) Bushey ; His Brothers, Larry (Melinda), Glenn (Mary), Rodney (Tina); His Brother in Laws Stanley (Judy) Mitchelmore, Raymond (Cicely) Mitchelmore, Garry (Joanne) Mitchelmore: Sister in laws Edna (Ralph) Parrill, Anne Cotton, Dorcas Mitchelmore and large circle of nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his Parents James and Ima: and Father and Mother in law Theophilus and Augustina Mitchelmore: Brother in Laws Churchill and Willis Mitchelmore ,Aaron Chambers and Sister in laws Lydia Chambers and Margaret Mitchelmore .The funeral took place at 3:00pm on Friday, April 12, 2019 at John M Gray Center with Rev. WHALEN, HENRY ROSS

October 30, 1934 - April 7, 2019

Passed peacefully away at Corner Brook Western Memorial Hospital in his 84th year, Ross Whalen of Flower's Cove on April 7, 2019. Born in Flower's Cove on October 30, 1934 to Henry and Chatfield Whalen. He married the love of his life, Ellen (Genge) and they were wed on November 27, 1958 and shared 60 wonderful years together. Ross and Ellen were blessed with three children, daughter: Judy Sheppard (Ed); Sons: Lorne Whalen (Wanda), Melvin Whalen (Judy); Grandchildren: Chuck Sheppard (Michelle), Chad Sheppard (Emiley), Corey Whalen (Shawna), Chelsie Astles (Andrew), Ross Whalen; Great-grandchildren: Jenna Sheppard, Kayla Sheppard, Logan Sheppard, River Sheppard, Gracie Whalen, Haley Whalen, Claire Astles; Sister: Hazel Archel. Family was the highlight of Ross's life but he also enjoyed berry picking, fishing, cutting wood and playing cards. He had several working skills, he worked with NL Hydro as a Meter Reader and a Groundsman; he also worked with Lundrigans building the roads in the St. Anthony area; he was part owner of a scallop dragger. He was a jack of all trades who instilled values of hard work and independence of his family. He was and is deeply loved and fondly mourned. Pre-deceased by his parents: Henry and Chatfield Whalen; Sisters: Hilda Way, Jessie Coombs, Beatrice Shepherd, Blanch Pitcher, Sue Gould; Brothers: Orick, Ralph; Visitation to take place from the St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Flower's Cove; Family Service is Thursday, April 11th, 8:00 pm and Funeral Service is Friday, April 12th, 2:00 pm. ALYWARD, GORDON GERARD

April 22, 1962 - April 1, 2019

Gordon was born to Francis and Bernadette Alyward on April 22, 1962 in Main Brook. The family moved to Goose Cove from Fishot Island in 1970. Gordon was a very quiet man, who enjoyed the simple things in life, like having get-togethers with family and friends. He loved his family dearly. He was very proud of his daughter, Pamela and two grand kids, Matthew and Aiden and spoke of them so often. He would light up when talking about all his brothers and sisters and mom and dad. He faced many challenges but always had a smile. He will be forever loved and sadly missed by his Father Francis; Sisters, Eileen, Denise (Wes); Brothers, Fred (Maureen), Steven (Sharon), Leonard (Mary), Wayne (Dianne), Clem, Edward (Charmaine), as well as his extra-special Aunt Jose and Uncle Dorm who held a special place in his heart. Also left with fond and loving memories are a large extended family of Aunts, Uncles, Nieces, Nephews, and Cousins. He will be missed as well by his special friend Gloria and the caring staff for the John M. Gray. Your care and compassion will never be forgotten. Gordon is predeceased by his loving Mother, Bernadette, and brother-in-law John McCarthy. Visitation was held from Kerry M. SAMSON, KEVIN

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Kevin on March 22, 2019 at the age of 65 years. he leaves to mourn, with fond and loving memories his partner Ruth Sheppard, his sisters Elsie Cunard and Barbara Brown, as well as many nieces and nephews, as well as his special aunt Ursula Chambers. Kevin was predeceased by his parents peter and Bessie Samson, sister marina and brothers Tom, Hiram and Conrad. Visitation will take place on Sunday march 31, 2019 from 7-9pm at the Church of the Advent in Plum Point, from which the funeral service will take place on Monday, April 1st, 2019 at 2:00pm with Rev. NOBLE, WILFRED JAMES

September 11, 1944 - March 27, 2019

Passed peacefully away at Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in his 74th year, Wilfred James Noble of St. Anthony on March 27, 2019. Born in St. Anthony on September 11, 1944 to Pearce and Bertha Noble of Great Brehat; Wilfred was the first of 7 children. After finishing high school Wilf met the love of his life, Selma Bussey, at a hockey game. They were wed on December 20th, 1967 and shared 52 wonderful years together. Some time after marriage, Wilf and Selma were blessed with two beautiful daughters; Adella and Lisa. Family was the highlight of Wilf’s life but he also loved berry picking, fishing, hunting, and his dog- Pop’s Girl- Coco. Wilf fished all his life but finishing his fishing career with a 16 year stint his brother-in-law Eric in 1992. He was a jack of all trades who instilled values of hard work, selflessness, and independence of his family and friends. He was, and is, deeply loved and fondly mourned. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his Wife, Selma; Daughters, Adella (Derek) Sweet, Lisa; Grandchildren, Rebecca, Gregory, Brandon, Bailey; Great-granddaughter, Annabelle; Mother, Bertha; Sisters, Doris (Eric), Audrey (Sterling), Pansy (Monty), Patsy (Dwayne), Dennis (Kristen) as well as a large circle of family and friends. It is with great sadness that the family announce Mary’s passing at White Bay Central Health Center in Roddickton, surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was the most beautiful lady with a wealth of caring and compassion. Passed away March 19th, 2019 at the age of 82 years. He leaves to mourn with a lifetime of memories, his Wife, Margaret; Children, Preston (Tammy), and Joy; Granddaughter Rikki; Grandsons, Shawn and Shannon, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Charl was predeceased by his Sons, Drayson Ford, Shawn Craig; Brothers Garland, Chris, Varrick; Sisters Dorothy (Dot), and Minnie. Visitation was held from the Salvation Army Church in St. Anthony from where the funeral was held on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 4:00 pm with Captains David and Melanie Rideout officiating. BYRNE, JERRY ALPHAOUS

Feb. 25, 1962 - March 16, 2019

Passed tragically away in Conche on March 16th, 2019 at the age of 57 years. Jerry was a man of many talents. He was a fisherman, woodsman, carpentry, tour guide to tourist and friend to all. He loved to talk and took the time to speak to everyone he met and always said hello. He loved music and dancing. He leaves to mourn his Mother, Ellen; brothers Garrett (Selina), Michael (Bernice), Kenneth; Sisters Christine (Matt), Frances (Gary), Elsie (Bob), Doreen (Jean-Guy), Margaret (Bill). Jerry will be lovingly remembered by his many nieces & nephew, extended family and circle of friends. Jerry was predeceased by his father William Byrne, brothers Clifford, Robert and William and Nephew Jeremy Scott.
