BYRNE, CLIFFORD PATRICK

August 31, 1953 – October 26, 2018

Passed tragically away in Conche on October 26th, 2018 at the age of 65 years. Cliff was a member of Alberta Carpenters and Allied workers. He spent many years working in the oil sands in Fort McMurray. He loved to fish and hunt, and especially loved Newfie music and dancing. He will be sadly missed. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, his mother, Ellen; Brothers, Garrett (Selina), Gerry, Michael (Bernice), Kenneth; Sisters, Christine (Matt), Frances (Gary), Elsie (Bob), Doreen (Jean-Guy), Margaret (Bill); Son, Shannon; and Special Friend, Shirley. Cliff will also be lovingly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, extended family, and circle of friends. Clifford was predeceased by his Father, William Byrne; Twin Brothers, Robert and William Byrne; as well as his Nephew, Jeremy Scott. Visitation was held from the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Conche from where the funeral took place at 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 1, 2018 with Fr. George officiating. POWELL, DONALD LEWIS

October 28, 1979 - October 25, 2018

“Donny” passed away on October 25th, 2018 at the age of 38 years. “Mr. Donald Powell” was a special child to proud parents Walter and Josephine. He was the third child, and brother to Pansy and Frank. Don was a member of a very large and loving family. He was special not only to family, but to numerous friends, neighbours and strangers. He was a friend to everyone he met. All of the community of St. Anthony and area knew him well. A wave, a smile and an excited greeting was for everyone. Left to mourn, with many fond Memories: His Mom, Josie; His Sister Pansy (Dave) and His Brother Frank (Lee); His Nephews Mitchell and Matthew; His Niece Erika; His Uncle Ray and His Cousin Donna along with so many friends! The funeral took place on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm from the United Church in St. Anthony with Rev. Gus Pendleton officiating. Interment and a parade followed. HANCOCK, ISABELLA LOUISE

May 17, 1931 - October 21, 2018
Passed away October 21, 2018 at White Bay Central Health Centre in Roddickton at the age of 87 years. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her Son, Raymond (Valda) Hancock; Daughters, Joan (Lloyd) Pilgrim, Mona (Tobias) Patey; Sisters, Beatrice Wilcox, Maureen Hancock; 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 1 great-greatgrandchild, and a large circle of other relatives and friends. Isabella was predeceased by her husband, Edward Hopkins, and her Parents, Reuben and Harriet Hopkins. Visitation was held from the Apostolic Faith Church in Roddickton from where the funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 24th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Rene Cassell officiating. WEIR, CRYSTAL DAWN

Born in Thompson, Manitoba to Melvin and Sandy Weir on June 6th, 1985, Crystal Weir passed on October 2nd, 2018 at the age of 33 years. She is survived by her two children, DJ and Destiny. Crystal loved the outdoors, camping, fishing, and time with her family. She was an LPN and Graduated from the College of the North Atlantic in 2012. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories, her two children, DJ and Destiny; Husband, Dexter Fillier; Father, Melvin Weir (Agnes); Brothers, Chris, Tyrone, Steven, and Michael; Nieces, Abbie, Audie, Allie; Special Aunt and Friend Cindy, as well as a large circle of extended family and friends. Crystal is predeceased by her mother, Sandra Stillar-McCall; Grandparents Jim and Edna Stillar, and Maxwell and Ester Weir. SIMMS, MARION

It is with great sadness that the family of the late Marion Simms announce her passing on October 05, 2018 at the age of 86 years, at Curtis Memorial Hospital, St. Anthony. Marion was born on January 11, 1932 to Olive and James Herritt in Muddy Hole, Hermitage Bay, NL. At a young age her family moved to Corner Brook where she met her husband of 68 years, Allan Simms. Allan and Marion settled in St. Anthony, what she called the best part of the world. They were blessed with 6 children, 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Marion enjoyed the little things in life, counted her many blessings and was appreciative of nature. She had a sincere smile and a beautiful personality. She enjoyed watching sunsets, tending to her trees and flowers, and swinging in her backyard. Marion was creative and artistic and she will be remembered for her silly gestures, limericks, rhymes and poems that she often wrote herself. Marion enjoyed knitting, reading, playing games with her friends and rocking in her rocking chair. Marion was a loving mother and grandmother, a faithful servant of God and a loyal friend to many. She will be lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories her six children, Shirley (Max Mullins), Angela (James Colbourne), Allan, Maureen (Henry Smith), Roddy, Roger (Lillian Simms), 14 grandchildren; 8 great grand-children; Sisters, Emily Bailey, Geraldine Hicks; Brother-in-law, Bruce Hicks; Sister-in-law Ella (Simms) Burden as well as a large circle of family and friends. CANNING, MABEL

Passed away September 12, 2018 from the Corner Brook Long Term Care Center at the age of 86 years. She leaves to cherish memories her children; Garfield (Bard) Canning, Craig (Donna) Canning, Una (Melvin) Hoyles, Cathy (Barry) Brown; as well as a number of Grandchildren, Great-grandchildren, Great-great Grandchildren and other extended family and friends. Mabel is predeceased by her husband Alfred Canning and her Daughters, Juanita Canning and Muriel Baker. TUCKER, WILFRED LEONARD

July 21, 1939- August 26-2018

In the arms of his loving family, Wilfred passed away on August 26 at St. Clare's Mercy Hospital, in St. John's. In December 1956, at the young age of 17, Wilfred joined the Royal Canadian Artillery and was based in Shilo, Manitoba. His second year would see him deployed to Germany with Nato. Upon his return, he spent some time fishing and working as a deckhand aboard the Scientific Exploration Ship, Theron. He also spent some time guiding the American Hunters in central Newfoundland. Wilfred spent the next 15 years employed with James W. Patey Plumbing and Heating in St. Anthony, before being employed with the Corp of Commissioners. Wilfred was based in airports, St. Anthony and St. John's until his retirement in 2001. During his working career he was also a volunteer with the Canadian Forces Reserves (Ranger) for 12 years. He leaves to mourn his wife of 51 years, Mabel. Their children; Mona (Junior), Maxine (Rodney), Kevin (Kelly), Kenneth (Jeanette) and Bonnie (Darren). Grandchildren; Tyler (Mindy), Jeremy (Michelle), Olivia, D'marco, Kayla (Rod), Kendall, Katie, Deven and Brianna. Great Grandchildren; Lyla and Colton. Brother Selby (Delilah), and Sister Mamie. Also leaving to mourn extended family and a large circle of friends who will miss his stories, kindness, and humour. Predeceased by his parents Kenneth & Elizabeth Tucker, half-sister Verdie (Tom) & half-brother Roderick. Brothers, Wilson (Jessie), Valen (Daisy) & Carl (Millicent) and brother-in-law Newton Morgan (Mamie).Visitation was held from the United Church in Ship Cove from where the funeral service was held on Thursday, August 30th, 2018 at 2:00 pm with Rev. ELLIOTT, CALEB JOHN

Passed away August 22, 2018 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 95 years. Caleb was born in Billy’s Harbour and moved to Cook’s Harbour as a young man. He fished up until his late thirties. Then he went to work with the Department of Highways where he stayed until his retirement after 22 years. Caleb loved the outdoor life and spent as much time as possible hunting, fishing, or just boiling the kettle. As long as he was outside he was happy. He will be surely missed by all his friends and family. May he rest in peace. Caleb leaved to mourn his Brother, Amos (Faye); Sisters, Millie and Rachel (Allan); Brother-in-law, Wesley as well as a long list of nieces, nephews, and close friends. A special thank you is extended to Caleb’s closest friends who were always by his side, Mae Richards and Bob Mesher and families.
