HILLIER, JOHN WESLEY

January 15th, 1944 – September 7th, 2017

John Wesley was born to Hedley and Pearl Hillier on January 15th, 1944 in Griquet, NL. He was one of 10 children. In 1965 he met and married Jessie Eileen Newman and together they had three children, Paul, Todd, and Nadine, whom they raised in their family home in St. Lunaire – Griquet. John and Jessie were blessed with seven grandchildren: Samantha, Jonathan, Carly, Zachary, Lindsey, Benjamin, and Brooklynn; and one great-grandson, Austin. John’s passion was not only for his family but also his work and business. In the early years John worked on the boats with his father and also as a truck driver. In the mid 1970’s he purchased a gas station and later built a garage. He continued by expanding into heavy equipment. John was a very quiet and gentle man who did his best to be a friend to everyone. He loved his family and church family. He will be missed by all that knew him. John passed away on September 7th, 2017 at the Charles S. Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 73 years. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his Sons Paul (Sonya), Todd (Elaine); Daughter Nadine (Michael); Brothers Allan, Graham (Zonya), Lonny; Sisters Louise, Dorothy (Bill), Ada (Ted), Vida (Winston), Neta; Grandchildren Jonathon, Zachary, Lindsey, Benjamin, Samantha, Carly, Brooklynn and Great-Grandchild Austin. He was predeceased by his Wife Jessie; Parents Hedley and Pearl Hillier; Brothers Roland and Kaye Hillier; Father in Law Benjamin Newman and Sister in Law Cassie Hillier. Visitation was held from the Pentecostal Tabernacle in St. Lunaire Griquet from where the funeral took place on September 11th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor John Baker officiating. Interment followed. PATEY, NELSON SCOTT

Passed away at the White Bay Health Center on September 6th, 2017 at the age of 46 years. Nelson Scott Patey was born to Theresa Patey-Osbourne of Bide Arm on November 17th, 1970. He leaves to mourn with fond and loving memories his wife Jenetta; Mother Theresa Osbourne and Husband Eugene; Brothers Brian and Kent; Sisters Celie (Melvin) Wilcox, Velma (Alvin) Canning; Uncles Raymond (Emily), Winston (Joan) and Scott (Phyllis) as well as a circle of extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Chesley and Alma Patey, and Uncle Edwin Patey. Visitation took place at the Calvary Pentecostal Temple in Roddickton from where the funeral service took place on Sunday, September 10th, 2017 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Norman Joy officiating. COOMBS, MARION EILEEN

July 14, 1935 — September 3, 2017

(née Way) was born in Savage Cove on July 14, 1935, to Ann Maria Way (White) of Sandy Cove and Stephen Way of Savage Cove. Marion passed away in St. John’s after a brief illness at the age of 82 years. Orphaned at a young age, Marion lived at the Grenfell Orphanage in St. Anthony, she spent her summers in Plum Point with her Aunt Ellen and Uncle Noah and is where she met her future husband Ben Coombs. Marion was known in her community for her fine singing voice and her open and warm heart. The home she made with her husband Ben was always welcoming to family, friends and strangers.  Marion was dearly loved by her family and friends. Marion is missed her loving husband of fifty-eight years Ben, and her children and their spouses: Chris and his wife Krista, Dan and his wife Carol, and Sheila and her husband Craig, and her grandchildren Benjamin, Halle, Anna, Ellen and Stephen. She was predeceased by her infant grandson (Carol and Dan), her older sisters Mary Hunt (Way) and Gladys Gontard (Way). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Church of the Advent Plum Point will be graciously accepted. Visitation was held from the Church of the Advent Anglican Church in Plum Point from where the funeral was held at 2:00 pm on Friday, September 8th with Rev. Jennifer Renouf officiating. McLEAN, AUREALIA

born April 17th, 1929, passed away August 30th, 2017 at the Sir Rufus Guinchard Health Center at the age of 88 years. Mourned and remembered with love by her family; daughters Sybil (Desmond) MacArthur, Hazareth (George) Kelly, Louise (Pat) Rumbolt, Irene (Herold) Macey, Shirley (Dylan) Rumbolt, Rosie (Colby) Cullinghall; Sons Roland (Joyce), Leslie (Penny), Lambert (Helen), Primus (Pearl); Sons-in-law John Macey and Michael Gibbons as well as a large circle of Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. TALBOT, EUGENE FRANCIS

Passed away on August 20th, 2017 in Englee at the age of 65 years. KENNEDY, DALE GERARD

passed away July 28th, 2017 at Curtis Memorial Hospital in St. Anthony at the age of 60 years. Dale was born to Mark and Isabel Kennedy of Bird Cove on May 7th, 1957. At a very young age he started writing sons and playing music which he continued to do until his illness came upon him- this was his passion in life. He had many talents and was very knowledgeable. He was a gifted musician and loved jamming with his buddies on the weekends. Throughout the years he spend endless hours working on the history of his community and he co-founded the Bird Cove-Plum Point Archaeology project. For his outstanding community efforts and Archaeology work he was given the James Pendegrast Award; the highest achievement an avocational archaeologist can receive in Canada. He had a countless number of friends and was well liked by all that knew him. FR. JOHNBOSCO VELLAPHADASS

Passed away on July 26th, 2017 at the age of 39 years. Father Vellaphadass who was affectionately known as Father Bosco, was ordained to the priesthood as a member of the Heralds of the Good News, Mary Queen of Apostles Province on January 2, 2005. Mary Queen of Apostles Provincialate is in Tamil Nadu, India.  Following his ordination, Father Johnbosco served 6 months as an associate pastor and in June of 2005 was appointed for 3 years as Parish Priest of Holy Cross Church, Allagadda, India.  After that time, he served for 6 months in Italy and a further 6 years as Parish Priest in 3 different parishes in Tamilnadu, India before coming to Canada in 2014. Since March of 2015 he served as Parish Priest in Our Lady of Grace, Bird Cove, NL. Canada. Fr. Bosco will be sadly missed by Rani & Chinnappan Vellaphadass, (Mom & Dad), his Brothers: Mahimairaja, Britto Johnpeter & Prabhakaran and his Sister: Sharmi, his Niece & Nephew, Families and Friends both in Canada and in India. He was a kind-hearted person, he would never get mad with anyone, and he did good to anyone who met him. He always cared about his family and wanted to help them, he loved his Niece and Nephew. Father Gabriel his friend says “Bosco would always say: God will reward you for whatever good you do to others.” May God grant eternal rest to his soul. May God comfort the family and friends who mourn his loss. Visitation was held at the Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church in Bird Cove from where funeral mass was held on Monday, July 31st, 2017 at 11 am. Interment to take place at his home, Thiruvathikunnam, Tamilnadu, India at a later date. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Kerry M.
