PYNN, BEATRICE

July 5, 1934 - November 5, 2022

Passed peacefully away at the Nature’s Haven component of Western Long-Term Care, Corner Brook, on Nov. 5, 2022, Beatrice Elizabeth Pynn (Compton), of St. Anthony. She was predeceased by her husband Wesley Sr., daughter Jean, son Wesley Jr. (Marie), parents Thomas and Martha Compton, brother Abe (Millicent), brother Val (Bernice), and Sister Grace (Ralph). Leaving to mourn are her daughter Angela, sons Wally (Keith), and Ivan, grandchildren, Terri (Craig), Andrea (Adam), Darryl, Dustin, Donavon, Aaron, Brandon, Jordon, and Gina, a number of greatgrandchildren, sisters, Sybil (Elmo), Selma (Clarence), Lucy (Roy), brother Harvey (Emma), and other relatives and friends, especially her good friend, Wavey Noel and the Noel family.

All her life, among many other things, she was a great cook and baker, at her best when she was preparing, preserving, or cooking wild birds and game, seal, jams, jellies, baked goods, etc., preferably from our own natural food, when possible, prepared the traditional Newfoundland way. While this was true of her, she was also a gifted craftsperson, who was an excellent knitter, crocheter, mat hooker, and drew her own hooked mat designs. She had a good sense of humor. She was very knowledgeable about current world affairs and was able to hold a conversation easily with the best of them. She, along with her husband, Wes, brother-in-law, Bax, and his wife Janie, spent 43 years as lighthouse keepers at the Fox Point Lighthouse in St Anthony, saying many times since retiring and moving into St. Anthony, how she loved it, and that she would love to be back there again, always commenting on her and Janie, about this or that, always with a smile on her face. She saw many ships carrying people either into St. Anthony harbour or leaving, often with fog horn blasting and the light shining. Her, light may have gone out, but her spirit will live on.

Cremation has taken place. As expressions of sympathy, a donation can be made in Beatrice's memory to a chairty of one's choice.

Visitation was held at Kerry M. Fillatre funeral home in St. Anthony. The funeral service took place on Friday, November 11, 2022 at 2:00 pm from the Anglican Church in Raleigh with Rev. Arthur Kinsella officiating. Interment followed in the Anglican Cemetery in Raleigh.
